Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL(Opens in new tab). They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

  • Mediocre

by Lola on 11/19/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The tickets were expensive and not much fan interaction. No hype squad and nothing leading cheering. Went to cross that stadium off the list. Would not go out of my way to go there again. But the neighborhood was pretty clean.

Venue was amazing, staff wasn't the most pleasant but being a huge Bruins fan and going to TD Garden for my first time, its a check off the bucket list and its such a nice venue! Seats were comfy, food was good and the crowd was electric! Not like Toronto fans. Bruins fans rock! Can’t wait to plan my next trip! Would definitely go again!!

  • Bag Policy

by Markus on 5/20/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I love hockey and I have diabetes. My wife bought herself a clear Bruins purse/bag from the Pro Shop online. It was wonderful for a couple years how easy it was to go through security with my glucose meter, glucose tablets, and a snack or two. I was comfortable that I had my medical needs covered, thus preventing any sort of unnecessary emergency. We went to 4 games this year and no problem. Then came the $600 for 2 seats to game 6 and we are met with this ridiculous new policy. We ended up destroying the clear purse and buying a much larger bag at merchandise stand to hold everything in for $3. Kicker is, next time I go, that large bag they just sold me won’t be allowed in. So shocked they didn’t follow their own policy on medical needs. Then on the way out of the Garden we saw a woman leaving with a purse twice the size of my wife’s clear “easy stadium access” bag. I guess we chose the wrong line on the way in. Very frustrating knowing that I just invested in 11 games next year….ughhh

  • Amazing seats!

    by OuttyR8 on 5/13/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

2 seats to the right of the Bruins bench and 1st row in front of the glass. What an experience. Players and pucks hitting the glass in front of you and the sense of how fast the guys are really skating make this an unforgettable experience for me and my daughter! Will go again!

Email came up. We hit on it. Was in our wallet ready for awesomeness!!

  • Obstructed

    by Chris H on 5/3/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

The seats were obstructed but no one told me that. The bad music blasted at every break in play, was teenage stickers and sparkles pop music and always stopped the chanting crowd. Not going back. Not the way hockey should be.

  • Obstructed view

    by Chris H on 5/3/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

The seats were obstructed but not sold thay way. Also the music blasted every break in play was geared for teenagers. Also the blasted bad music often stopped the crowd from chanting. Thats not hockey the way i like it. so im not going back.

  • Terrible seats

by Dagou on 5/3/24TD Garden - BostonRating: 1 out of 5

Bar seats located above section 301 were awful. Unless your the height Zdeno Chára these seats are not for you. The seats are on the same level as the last row balcony. If anyone in the last row balcony leans forward at the very least, you can’t see anything on the ice. When the bruins rushed the puck everyone stands and you can’t see any goals. When the bruins scored a wall of fans came up and we felt completely excluded from the celebration.. half of the game was spent kneeling on the barstool and we ended up watching the 2nd half of the game from the screens at the bar. Very disappointed.
