About

BOOKER T JONES IN CONCERT:

Legendary blues multi-instrumentalist Booker T. Jones is now in his sixth decade as one of the genre's most celebrated virtuoso players. As adept on the classic Hammond B-3 organ as he is on the guitar, Booker T tears through more than 50 years of material at his renowned live concerts, keeping things fresh with covers of Prince and Jimi Hendrix. Hot on the heels of his electric 2013 tour dates, Booker T is ready to turn it out for ticket buyers again in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Memphis and named in honor of revered educator Booker T. Washington, Jones was a childhood prodigy, taking up numerous instruments and serving as organist as his church. He made his on-record debut at age 16 playing sax on 1960 Stax Record hit "'Cause I Love You," making his album debut two years later with his band the M.G.s. The album's instrumental title track "Green Onions" was a huge hit, going on to become one of the most famous and recognizable songs in the history of the 12-bar blues. In the ensuing decades, Booker T established himself as one of the most talented session players, producers, and players in the genre, earning a Grammy in 1995 with "Cruisin'" for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Following the 2013 release of his 10th studio album Sound the Alarm, Booker T once again hit the road for another round of tour dates.

  • Booker T. can still bring it!

Booker T. is a consummate professional. He plays with style, flair, and precision. Nobody can make a B3 sound like he does--especially with two Leslie speakers on stage. His band is likewise extremely talented. The band includes his son, "Ted", on guitar and vocals. Being a drummer myself, I can vouch for the brilliance of the band's drummer. The best part of the show was that, unlike many artists who head back to their tour bus or hotel room immediately after the show, Booker T. stayed to greet the audience and sign autographs. The man is just plain FIRST CLASS! My last comment is about the RItz Theatre. This is a beautifully-restored historic theater in downtown Jacksonville. It was my first show at this venue, but it won't be my last.

  • Booker T. is a Pro!

Booker T Jones played a great show at Harrah's Lake Tahoe Saturday night. Booker T's ease with the B3 and minimalist stylings were on righteous display. The set list was creative and spanned 50 years of his work. The transition from Green Onions to his recent collaboration with the Roots was seamless and both tunes were played with freshness. The addition of his son Ted Jones on guitar for many songs added excitement to the band. The covers of BB King's Man, Prince's Purple Rain and Hendrix's Hey Joe were unique and outstanding! The intro to Time is Tight with Jones and bassist Melvin Brannon was lights out and guitarist Vernon Black's energy was evident all night! What a Pro!

The whole line up was great became a big fan of Lake Street Dive there sound was amazing like nothing I've ever heard. And Mr. Jones whose involvement in over 400 albums played every song I wanted him to, it was my wish wish. His band was so good and they let him played a little longer.
