BOOKER T JONES IN CONCERT:

Legendary blues multi-instrumentalist Booker T. Jones is now in his sixth decade as one of the genre's most celebrated virtuoso players. As adept on the classic Hammond B-3 organ as he is on the guitar, Booker T tears through more than 50 years of material at his renowned live concerts, keeping things fresh with covers of Prince and Jimi Hendrix. Hot on the heels of his electric 2013 tour dates, Booker T is ready to turn it out for ticket buyers again in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Memphis and named in honor of revered educator Booker T. Washington, Jones was a childhood prodigy, taking up numerous instruments and serving as organist as his church. He made his on-record debut at age 16 playing sax on 1960 Stax Record hit "'Cause I Love You," making his album debut two years later with his band the M.G.s. The album's instrumental title track "Green Onions" was a huge hit, going on to become one of the most famous and recognizable songs in the history of the 12-bar blues. In the ensuing decades, Booker T established himself as one of the most talented session players, producers, and players in the genre, earning a Grammy in 1995 with "Cruisin'" for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Following the 2013 release of his 10th studio album Sound the Alarm, Booker T once again hit the road for another round of tour dates.

  • Almost a Private Concert

Getting to see Booker T & the MGs was a great thrill. Seeing Booker T Jones still up on stage dealing out the tunes with pure joy on his face added to the entire experience. The entire band was truly enjoying playing for us and it really made the night special. The Riverside Revival venue is a very intimate hall. We had a table for 4, mid floor, the sound was great, not too loud like some concerts can be. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. I do recommend a table. Drinks were sold and good. Parking is across the street and easy. I can't wait to return to this venue for another show.

What a fabulous show! The band was great, and Booker T played guitar and sang, as well as performing his organ hits. They also did Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, and Prince. If you have a chance to see this show, don't miss it!

What a terrific show. Booker played a variety of songs introducing them with some background and history. The band was hot and his electronic organ, singing, and guitar work was spectacular. The crowd was enthusiastic and he signed autographs after the show. Classy and elegant night.

From the first song to last, this was a blast from the past! I can't wait to see Booker T. in concert again! He sounded great on everything from Green Onions, Hip Hug Her, Hang Em High, to Time Is Tight! He through in several Otis Redding songs and a tribute to Prince. If you remember the artists of Stax records, you will love this concert.

  • Class act all the way!

Having seen Booker T. many times over the last 30 years (w/ the MG's and Neil Young and at the Dylan Tribute at MSG), I can honestly say his shows are always amazing. Not only do they showcase his many talents, they confirm his place as one of the most important figures in the last 50 years of soul and pop music. I was very fortunate to meet him after the show and he has to be one of the warmest and most sincere people I've ever met. Go see him whenever you get the chance! You will NOT regret it. For some reason I am unable to get this form to accept my 5-star rating. The show deserves and gets 5 stars from me, NOT 4.

Extremely talented musician. Great show - he played keyboards or guitar and sometimes sang. Did all sorts of music - contemporary, blues, rock… Wonderful show, with the audience dancing or singing to themselves. He did songs his way - which was fine with me. A real pleasure to watch him and his very talented band.
