Second year attending, just as great as before!

by Jenn567842 on 10/29/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

We have attended the Boo at the Zoo event in DC two years in a row now. Our children love it, and we love the safe environment, and seeing all the wonderful costumes. It was a great time, and we will be going again next year for sure!

No need to go on the 31st now!!!

by Kevinss on 10/29/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

We enjoyed every minute at the park, we heard we were there on the slowest day, and it was great not too many people, great costumes. My kids ended up with a ton of candy and they were out cold by the time we got home. We probably won't go out on the 31st now, just stay home and enjoy the costumes that come to our door this year.

    Perfect evening

by PrincessovNY on 10/29/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

My 4 year old daughter had a blast. We didn't have to wait in any lines, though we saw many people waiting in lines. It's probably because we came from the opposite direction. We started off by the entrance closer to the farm/barn, worked our way up and then came back down. I would say the price is a bit much given that my daughter doesn't eat candy, but it was more about the experience. Plus you get a ton of treats. No only did we get to "trunk" or treat, we were able to see the animals and exhibits that we didn't get to see during the day. We finished the night with a carousel ride. The gentleman working the carousel were hilarious. The volunteers at all of the booths were very nice. All in all it was a good time.

    What did I pay for?

by Anonymous on 10/28/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

They charge $30 per adult and child over the age of two. I'm glad my son got in for free but what exactly did my husband I pay for? We didn't see any animals because it was basically their bedtime and I can go to the zoo for free anytime to see the animals. My son went "trick or treating", received EXACTLY one piece of candy per station, we had to buy our dinner and then went home with about 40 pieces of candy. There were no games or activities for the kids, yeah, the decorations were cute but they weren't interactive. So again, what did we pay for?

    Go for the costumes

by Anonymous on 10/28/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

This was our family's second Boo at the Zoo, and I thought last year's goodie stations were better - more types of snacks in addition to candy, and there were those incredibly popular light-up lollipops. As with last year, there was a big crowd (we went on Saturday night), and my favorite part was the costumes of the other event-goers. There was a lot of creativity on display, and many costumes were clever and/or very well-made. Animals were not terribly visible, not surprising as most are not nocturnal. One suggestion for the Zoo - for paths that are open but have no treats/booths, that information should be posted at the entrance to the path. There were several who wandered down to the Elephant Outpost only to be disappointed that there wasn't much of anything going on. When kids are getting tired, this information is particularly relevant as the event overall can involve a lot of walking.

    Overpriced

by Mominc777 on 10/28/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

Went in 2013 and had a blast! Lots of vendors, kiosks and great treats for the kids. This year was not worth the money at all. Very few vendors and giveaways (treats). Not nearly enough food choices - really long lines! I am a FONZ and always try to support the zoo, but I'm taking my grandson someplace else next year.

    Poor event

by PatriciaNospe on 10/28/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

It is not worth the money. Better take kids trick or treating around the neighborhood. Would not come again.

Boo at the Zoo was a great Halloween Event!

by Sitolo on 10/27/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

It's become a family tradition, great way to kick off Halloween. We saw the tigers eating their own Halloween treat. They have a variety of treats and we loved the decorations.

boo at the zoo-don't waste your time

by DCdad2 on 10/27/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

I took two kids (6 and 8) to Boo at the Zoo at the Smithsonian National Zoo. Not sure what I expected for $125 in tickets to a location that is usually free, but walking up and down and path and stopping at some tents for candy, wasn't it. It was devoid of children's activities, entertainment, or anything at all, actually. Don't waste your time and money.

Boo At the Zoo - Zoo Loads of Fun!

by CiCi55 on 10/27/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

I walked and reached almost all nooks and crannies of the Zoo where I found tables stocked and stacked with tempting treats. FONZ staff and volunteers sported the grandest smiles and some dressed in most creative costumes. It was fun to see FONZ members both big and small outfitted in colorful, attractive costumes. I always enjoy myself to the gills at Boo at the Zoo. This year proved no exception. I appreciated the rides on the Zoo shuttle both to and fro the Zoo to the Woodley Park Metro especially at the end of the evening when I needed to sit down. I can hardly wait for Boo at the Zoo 2015!

Always a great start to Halloween

by Redd2765 on 10/27/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

A great time was had by both kids and adults. The lions and tigers were out and active and we even got a great view of the sloth. The carousel ride was a great way to end the night.

    Fun, but dissapointing...

by Rumanda on 10/27/14Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

As long standing members of the national zoo we do our best to attend family events and have always found that Boo at the Zoo provides the type of wholesome and safe environment where young and adults alike can spend a fun pre-Halloween evening. Nonetheless, we are saddened to see a significant deterioration of the event with less and less attendees and even fewer vendors. Furthermore, the quality of and quantity of treats (and tricks) continues to dwindle. I imagine some vendors have not returned due to perceived benefit of doing so. I can share that companies like Honest Kids, Cabot cheese, Stonyfield among others have consistently received our patronage since being introduced to them for the first time at the zoo. Perhaps it's time for the zoo to consider revamping the delivery of this great event with both focus on vendor benefit and quality of delivery to attendees. I believe in and hope that Boo at the Zoo can once again be a premier Halloween program that all, not just members look forward to supporting without fail.

Boo at the Zoo is a fun night out

by LizzyT13 on 11/1/13Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

We have been attending this since my oldest was 4 or 5. It is a fun way to see the zoo and get some yummy treats too. The kids always enjoy going from table to table and, because it goes until 8:30, the walk back down the hill to parking tires them out for the night. It is worth the price, especially as a FONZ member

Boo at the Zoo -a great way to kick off Halloween

by Redd2765 on 11/1/13Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

We always love the event, but there seems to be a limited variety of treats. Besides that it was a great event and we loved the fact that we could visit the lions and tigers this year.

LOVE the BOO at the ZOO!

by ZooMommie on 10/31/13Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

This was our 2nd time going, my 3 year old LOVES it! the Zoo is so thoughtful with the interactive decor and the accessibility to the animals. I highly recommend purchasing a parking pass esp if you have real little ones. This is now a tradition for my family, an expensive one - but well worth it!

    NEVER Again

by PynkPlastic on 10/31/13Smithsonian's National Zoo - Washington

This is my 3rd year in a row going to Boo At the Zoo & I've decided that I will never do it again.

I was hoping that we would get to see more animals. It seemed more about getting stuff then learning and doing zoos things! We were visiting from New Hampshire and decided to do this thinking that we would get to do both the zoo and it's animals that night but we ended up having to make a separate trip to the zoo to actually see the animals. It also seemed expensive for walking around collecting a few pieces of candy. We had fun anyway!
