About

Bluesy singer/songwriter Bonnie Raitt has worked long and hard for her multiple Grammy Awards, hit singles and chart-topping records. Since her 1971 eponymous debut, the California-born performer and long-time activist has steadily maintained a music career, albeit with definite peaks and valleys. The red-headed songstress, one of the only women of her time to play guitar using the bottleneck technique, unleashed seven albums in just nine years, though her big commercial break came with her 10th studio set, 1989’s “Nick of Time.” That 11-track collection, produced by Don Was, earned three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Not only has the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tackled multiple U.S. tours and international runs, but she’s also a frequent participant in events of social activism, such as Farm Aid and Amnesty International concerts.

Raitt’s 16th full-length album and most recent studio release, “Slipstream,” hit retailers in 2012. Not only did ticket sales for the support tour soar, but Raitt also landed the best-selling blues album of the year and took home the Grammy for Best Americana Album.

Musical Soulmates Create a Powerful Blues Show!

by DonnyD on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

If you have not had the opportunity to see the BonTaj Roulet show, you owe it to yourself to see these exceptional musicians while they are touring together! Both legendary Blues Musicians in their own right, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal are a force to be reckoned with when playing off of each other's considerable talents. Taj warmed up the crowd with a set of blues and world rhythms. His soaring vocals and a few duets with his daughter brought the crowd to it's feet. Bonnie's searing guitar work and heart wrenching vocals gave the audience more than they had hoped for and the finale, which included all of the members of both bands, was a joyous celebration of all of the musical influences that these legendary performers have come to love over the course of their careers. If you want something to feel good about, don't miss this exceptional experience!

BonTaj Rollet: Great Name, Great show

by MikefromBrooklyn on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

Bonnie Raitt was in great voice. She sang and played with lots of emotion. Her band is one of the best in the business. It was very good to finally get to see and hear Taj Mahal in person. Together they were even more exciting. The only complaint I had with the evening was NOT with the artists. I only wish we were told to bring our own seating. We're New Yorkers and will always make do. The evening would have been perfect if we knew to bring our chairs. We STILL had a great time. The forecast for the evening was for showers. It didn't rain a drop!

    Bonnie & Taj were unbelievable!

by mlove on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

I wasn't familiar with Taj Mahal before. Really went to see Bonnie Raitt, but was so happily surprised with the whole show. Fortunately, the weather held up too. Taj is incredible; can't believe I hadn't heard him before. Bonnie was her usual superb self, she has such a fabulous rapore with the audience. I got a little scared when her set seemed so short, but then they both jammed for what seemed like another whole show. I was also thrilled that this was a benefit show; so I paid more than I wanted to pay, but got every penny's worth & more. Only disppointment was both artists requested no picture taking.

Taj and Bonnie, great alone and great together

by ParkSloper on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

Two great blues and roots music voices echoed around Prospect Park's bandshell. Both Taj and Bonnie were clearly stoked to be singing and playing on the same bill. Great sets from each individually and warm, friendly interplay between them and their bands on the "together" songs.

    BONTAJ ROULEZ

by Suzuzie on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

Having been a fan of Taj since the 60's and Bonnie since the 70's, this was a match made in heaven, and it did not disappoint. Taj opened with his funky blues that made it impossible (for me) not to move. For the first time in years I jumped up and danced in the aisles. When Bonnie's set came up, I was thrilled that she and Taj did a couple of songs together. The audience was hers, but anyone could see the chemistry between them. Then, instead of an encore at the end, they did a whole set together and brought the house down.

    AMAZING

by DFierce on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

People were dancing in the aisles and anywhere they could stand. Taj is legendary and to see him working it with his protege BR was truly a sight. The two created an amazing energy together that everyone would be blessed to experience for a night. Both solo sets and the combind performances were off the hook!

A real pro with a singular voice

by BrooklynBob on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

Haven't seen Bonnie Raitt or Taj Mahal in 30 years. She is a solid professional with one of the singular voices of our era. Extraordinarily polished band. Taj Mahal does too much mugging and forced silliness for my taste, but when he settled down and just sang a medly of rarer blues/R&B/roots Carib music he was a solid performer. The other side of the polish was that there were no real peaks of excitement on the uptempo stuff. Great R&B ought to be a little like a runaway train. This train was imovably on the tracks. The quiet ballads were extraordinary and a reminder of why Bonnie Raitt is Bonnie Raitt.

    Venue great, show pretty good

by Lotte on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

Bonnie Raitt put on a good show. I enjoyed listening to her- her guitar playing was great and her singing was pretty amazing. Listening to her sing "i can't make you love me" was the highlight for me. When Taj Mahal joined her on stage the place was rockin. You can't beat the venue- it was a cool evening, the air was sweet, the crowd was into it and the beers were cold. Happy days.

Bonnie Raitt & Taj Mahal still rock

by pksmama on 8/13/09Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - New York

What an amazing concert! These two have the most distinct and awesome voices around - and have prevailed after all these years - it's downright inspiring! It was a perfect pairing of talent & energy. Bonnie's voice has grown a bit raspy w/age - yet her gut-wrenching solo I Can't Make You Love Me, showed off her sweet and pitch-perfect voice - & reminded us that she's still got it, & is not afraid to use it. Her deference to Taj & band members, spoke to her willingness to share the spotlight, acknowledge the talents of others, & play music collectively, reminded me of why I love her. From her playful banter w/the audience, to her awesome slide-guitar-playing, to the wonderful duets w/Taj - she gave it her all. A generous performer, with class & style - this was the best concert I've been to in recent memory.

Still has the voice, the look, the amazing performing persona! Last saw her at Studio 54 20 years ago, and she was just as hot.
