About Bobby Rush in Concert
Bluesman Bobby Rush embodies the idea that you’re only as old as you feel. When he became more popular than ever in his eighties, he was consistently bringing his fans a live show - one as full of vitality as any you’d see from a performer a quarter his age. Rush doesn’t just stand there and sing, he really pulls out the stops for his ever-growing audience. When he’s not throwing emotion into his singing and harmonica playing, he’s cavorting with his female dancers, telling riveting stories and engaging in a give-and-take with the crowd that makes everybody in the room feel part of the evening’s event. With his crack band serving up Rush’s signature blend of funky grooves, soulful tunes and timeless blues, a Bobby Rush show isn’t just a concert, it’s an experience.
Bobby Rush Background
If Bobby Rush’s life were a movie, nobody would believe it was a true story. Born in Louisiana in 1933, he ended up in Arkansas, where he befriended blues icon Elmore James and played with legendary pianist Pinetop Perkins. When he made his way to Chicago during that city’s blues heyday, he was palling around with historic figures like Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters. The wider world got a taste of Rush’s signature blend of soul, funk and blues (eventually dubbed “soul blues” by the media) with his 1971 hit “Chicken Heads,” which would have a second life decades later in the film Black Snake Moan. Rush’s first album was produced and cowritten by Philly soul godhead Leon Huff. Long after becoming a hero of the soul blues circuit, Rush relocated to Mississippi, and he eventually tapped into the Delta blues tradition with his 2020 album Rawer Than Raw. But before that, he won his first-ever Grammy at age 83 for his funky, retro-soul album Porcupine Meat, proving his appeal is truly timeless.
THE SHOW WAS VERY ENTERTAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE STARS PERFORMED VERY PROFESSIONAL AND ON TIME
I went last year and it was great and this year was even better. I love Calvin Richardson and Lattimore was off the chain. But as usual Bobby Rush, Bobby Rush, BOBBY RUSH stole the show. That young man has so much energy. He is a great performer. Miss Wolfe was great also. They were all good. Can't wait until next year.
I GO EVERY YEARS TO THE EVENT, BUT I'M TRIED OF THE SAME THING OR THE SAME ROUTINE . CAN YOU CHANGE THE LINEUP WITH DIFFERENT SINGER WE HAVEN'T SEEM IN A WHILE OR NEVER SEEN IN CONCERT. HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDER AN ALL GIRL LINEUP LIKE EMOTIONS, EVELYN CHAMPAGNE KING, SADE,ALICIA MEYES , PATTI LABELLE, JUST TO NAME A FEW PEOPLE THAT WOULD BRING THE PEOPLE OUT. MY HUSBAND AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE GROUPS LIKE BLOODSTONE THE WHISPERS AGAIN, THE DRAMATICS, ENCHANTMENT,ENVOGUE, SOS BAND, AL GREEN, THE DELFONICS, THE OJAYS, JUST TO NAME A FEW SINGERS OR GROUPS I WOULD LOVE TO, ONES WE HAVEN'T SEEM. JUST THINK ABOUT IT. WHEN WILL YOU BRING WILLIE CLAYTON BACK NOW HE WILL FILL THE HOUSE WITH NO PROBLEM.
A great show. Really something to see, there was even a show in the audience. I will attend again.
The show was phenomenal! It was my first time seeing Latimore perform, and he did not disappoint at all. It is unreal how well that man can sing, not to mention his keyboard skills. I could stand to see a whole concert of him alone in the future! Clarence Carter put on quite a show as well. He's extremely entertaining even between songs. I was particularly fascinated with watching him play his guitar. I hate that Latimore and Clarence Carter seemed to have limited time, but they put 100% into the show while they were on stage. Bobby Rush, the headliner, came with all the energy one person can possibly have and really rocked the house.
This was my 1st blues concert and I really had a great time. If there is another one I wil be there thats how much fun I had.
This was indeed a classic. Lattimore was smoking as lead off to Clarence. Clarence, as usual was very entertaining. My only problem with his performance was that he didn't have enough time to complete my two favorites..Love me with a feeling and Stroking. What can I say about Bobby Rush..at age 76, he is unbelievable..The "Big Booty" Girls were a showstopper combined with Bobby's RAP and impression of MJ were the icing on the cake. I thoroughly enjoyed the show!!
The concert was excellent, entertaining, and funny. This was my mother's first concert ever. She enjoyed it so much. My sister and I treated her to this weekend getaway for her 64th birthday. We enjoyed it just as much as our mother did. We all dressed up and had a grand time. Thanks!
What a smashing blues concert last Saturday nite. The event started on time and moved along at a great pace. Every musician was at the top of his game and so into the audience. The audience was rocking and enjoyed every moment. I could n ot have asked for more and got more than I ever expected. It was an adult event but that worked. There needs to be a documentary of this type concert because when these artists are gone, there will be nothing ever again that comes close to their level of professionalism, respect and good humor. At a time in the life of our country when there are so many public figures behaving with disrespect and a lack of civility, it was heart warming to be in the presence of gentle men. Let's do it again!
I enjoyed the show. Latimore was my favorite, clarence not so good neither bobby rush
We sincerely enjoyed the music, as well as, the humerous stories told by each entertainer. We haven't laughed so much in years. We would attend this show again if it was repeated. We appreciated the fact that those attending the show did not stand for long periods of time during the show and did not block our view of the performers. The audience was engaged but not rude. Maybe it was the age of the crowd.
What a great night for seniors like myself. Everyone was singing and cheering.
Bobby Rush and Clarence Carter were good......but Latimore was awesome. His voice was smooth and his band was super too.....loved it. Clarence Carter had one of the sexiest moving guitarist on earth....all the women were thrilled!!!! Would definitely pay to see this show again.
