About

Bobby Bazini in Concert

A singer/songwriter brimming with soul to spare, Bobby Bazini has emerged as one of the great homegrown success stories in Canadian pop over the course of the 2010s. Born in the northwest Quebec town of Mont-Laurier, Bazini (né Bazinet) learned English by watching television as a kid and listening to Bob Dylan records, eventually adopting it as his songwriting language of choice.

Released when he was just 20 years old, Bazini's 2010 debut — Better in Time — was a seamless blend of winsome folky shuffles, teary country ballads, and vintage soul that belied his young age. The album went platinum in Canada and earned Bazini Juno Award nominations for New Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.

For the follow-up, Bazini wanted to get closer to his Americana inspirations. He headed to Los Angeles' hallowed Village Recorder studio and tapped Grammy Award–winning producer Larry Klein (best known for his work with Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock) to oversee sessions that featured Bazini alongside such legendary players as keyboardist Booker T. Jones and bassist Jack Ashford of Motown house band The Funk Brothers.

The resulting album, Where I Belong, shot straight to the top of the album charts in Canada upon its release in 2014 and would go on to become the top-selling record by a Canadian artist that year. (A bonus-track cover of the Bee Gees' classic "To Love Somebody" saw Bazini team up for a smouldering duet with Serena Ryder.)

For his 2016 release, Summer Is Gone, Bazini sought to reposition his smoky voice in a more modern context. The album was recorded with Swedish producer Martin Terefe (whose credits include Shawn Mendes and Mike Posner) and features songwriting contributions from the likes of Eg White (who co-wrote Adele's "Chasing Pavements"), Jake Gosling (who's worked with Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, One Direction), and country star Chris Stapleton. But Bazini's old-school soul shines throughout, most notably on "Leonard Cohen," a suave, cinematic tribute to the iconic Canadian singer.

What a wonderful venue. The seats were bar height so it was more enjoyable and easier to see the performer. It was my first time seeing Bobby Bazini and he was so fun live. The opening performer was Matt Anderson and he was a wonderful surprise. Soooo talented.

This was the best concert I have attended in a long time. The simplicity of Bobby Bazini is so refreshing from all other younger artists. A wonderful artist that will have a great future. No loud speakers, no bright shining lights, just great music and a great band! I wish him all the best, he deserves it.
