  • Black & Blue should definitely count as patriotic

by masonae on 7/5/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible! The opening comedian was hilarious - followed by Lewis Black, who was awesome as always. Then Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears was rocking, and Blues Traveler was unbelievable! Everyone had an awesome set and it was really cool to see the mix. And by far, Blues Traveler is the best background music to a fireworks show. Ever. It was unbelievable!

  • The best Blues Travelers show yet..

This was a best Blues Travelers Show so far at Redrocks on the 4th of July. Can't wait for the show next year!

  • Thought you've heard harmonica before???

by Adrock on 7/5/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first Blues Traveler show. Yes, I'm a little late to the party! What an amazing show it was. The performance was straight-up, no frills Blues Traveler with more over-the-top harmonica and good grooves than I could have imagined. Red Rocks is an amazing place to see any band but it was particularly kind to these guys. 4th of July fireworks going off in the Denver backdrop was a perfect topping to the performance. I will do this show again next year and the next........

  • Black Joe Lewis ruled!

My friends and I really went to just hang at Red Rocks (which is always awesome) and see the fire works throughout Denver. We're not huge Blues Traveler fans. They had a good performance - wasn't annoyed as much as I was the last time I saw them - seems like all their songs sound the same and the harmonica just starts to get annoying. But they were good. However, Black Joe Lewis was fantastic! High energy, tight band, funky, rockin', and for me stole the evening. And yes, the fire work displays throughout the Denver area were cool to see too.

  • Black and Blue Night to remember

by SanTullFan on 7/5/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, much better than expected. It opened with a local comedian who was pretty funny but not nearly as hilarious as was Lewis Black. I'm still laughing at his compassionate-political-acerbic-cynical style of humor. The funniest of that kind since the dear departed George Carlin. Next was a new band from Austin Texas where so many seem to come from, called Black Joe Louis and the Honeybears. Weird name but they got the crowd up and dancing. Think of a young James Brown singing with the Blues Brothers backup band. After a long wait Blues Traveler came on and seriously rocked the place. John Popper sounded fantastic both vocally and with his high pitched harmonica wizadry. The band was really tight last night and was introduced by the drummer's 10-year old daughter after she sang "God bless America." This was their 18th annual Independence Day appearance at the best venue on the planet, Red Rocks, and I definitely will be at the 19th!

  • Flippin' awesome!

Despite a cold evening for July and the threat of rain, the show made for an excellent way to spend the 4th of July. Although I rollled my eyes at a comedian opening a show for a band at Red Rocks, Lewis Black was off the wall and very funny. Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears then took the stage and had people moving their feet as it was like James Brown had risen from dead (he is dead, right?). Their horn section was especially impressive as they belted out song after song. For the headliner, Blues Traveler took the stage and did what thay do best - jam band electricity with songs going all over the place. Startting with one song, switching to another mid chorus, starting a third, and tying it back to the original without missing a beat. John's harmonica is still a common thread that links it all together. A hint to the newcomers to this show - getting a seat up front is not necessarily a plus at this show. If you sit up higher (about row 40 and above), you can see dozens of fireworks shows going off all throughout the city as you listen to the music. Another memorable 4th of July - thanks.

  • Danceable, but not very singable

by freshprince on 7/5/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 3 out of 5

I had fun with my friends, but even the songs that I knew I didn't feel like I could sing along to. Lewis Black was funny but it was hard to continually pay enough attention to get everything because of everything going on in the venue. It was my first Red Rocks show, though, so that was awesome!

  • BT comes through Again

Setting the scene - we headed out just before the torrential rains started. We drove in rain that was so thick we had to almost stop on the highway. Got to Red Rocks and the rain stopped - for the most part. Went in and saw both opening comedians - some of the 'content' was a little questionable for our 12 year old son - but what do ya do. Then we saw the Black Joe Lewis - these guys are good! We enjoyed their unique flavor of rock. They played a song with Popper and gave a good hour and a half. Time for the Big Boys - BLUES TRAVELER The band was introduced by the drummers 10year old daughter. She got a standing ovation and Did one helluva job in front of a pretty packed venue. These guys harkened back to the early days with some of their best jams. We were also privy to see some amazing fireworks over the city. We also got to hear DJ Logic rip off some sweet scratchin!!! There was another guest who wore some seriously purple pants - not sure who he was. He did stand in the row in front of us for a bit - we were like that's the purple pants guy... We sure got our moneys worth with this one. Can't wait for next year. THANK YOU BLUES TRAVELER!

  • Blues Traveler

From the opening comedy act all the way to the time we walked out of Red Rocks it was a special event. My wife and I had a very good time. The music was phenominal Black Lewis and the Honey Bears got it rocking right off the bat, that band is tight. People were up and dancing and getting into the music. That made it nice for me. When John Popper came out and jammed with them was one of the highlights. By the time Blues Traveler came out it was cleared of clouds and the moon had risen a little. I was ready for some good music and they did not disappoint me. These guys are musicians. They PLAYED!!!!!!!! Oh man did they play. As the old folks say they soothed my soul. I have been wanting to make this concert for a long time, something always came up. I finally got to see it.

Lewis Black was a good warm up...Joe Black Lewis and the Honeybears were awesome (need to see them again in a club) and Blues traveler did the most appropriate Michael Jackson tribute I have seen yet. The tributr was very well done and an awesome cover of "I'll be There." Well done and a show of great respect, guys!

  • Night at the Rocks was a Blast!

by chrisib on 7/5/09Red Rocks Amphitheatre - MorrisonRating: 4 out of 5

I finally got to a concert at Red Rocks after living in CO for 9 years and it did not disappoint! The headliners, Blues Traveler, are the best jam band I have seen live - they were awesome! Even better there were three openong acts and they were all great! Especially Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears - they are a blast to listen to! My teen girls actually liked them better than the headliners. We all had a great night - thank goodness the weather held!

  • Blues Traveler at Red Rocks--fantastic!

Watched the 7/4 BT show at Red Rocks. Despite early rain, the weather cleared and the show was amazing! Non-stop music, once BT started, which was incredible.
