About

Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in New York in 1967. The group is well known for three songs: The 1976 single "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" from the album Agents of Fortune, the 1981 single "Burnin' for You" from the album Fire of Unknown Origin, and "Godzilla" (1977) from Spectres . The band is a pioneer in heavy metal music both for its hard-edged musical assault and its use of sci-fi and occult imagery.

  • Great venue & even better band

by ToxicMike on 7/18/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I had a wonderful time at the Blue Oyster Cult show. Being a lifelong BOC fan, it's really no surprise that I dug on the event. The Sound as a venue was awesome. Excellent location, easy parking, easy access to restrooms, comfortable outdoor patio and the best acoustics in San Diego. I look forward to see more shows at The Sound in the near future!

  • Great Performance

BOC was awesome as was the venue! The food options at the Sound are a bit limited, but still a great concert!

  • BOC legendary night

by Drew on 7/18/23Rating: 5 out of 5

From the moment they hit the stage BOC was relentless and ageless! 50 years has developed a tightness to the sound and they were as good as they were back in 1980 when I saw them in high school, a little more gray but sound was impeccable. The venue was well designed and the sound great. Probably the nicest small venue I have been in, staff, entrance, parking all excellent, will be returning to the sound for sure!

I was super excited to see the band and enjoyed the show. Had to leave early though because it was apparently standing only. Very disappointing because I had to leave the show early. Also paid way too much for premium parking which wasn’t necessary at all.

  • Another terrific show

Mark Farner's "American Band" and Blue Oyster Cult were amazing and a great trip back in time for us. The Genesee is a great place to see bands.

It’s so awesome when a ‘70’s hard rock band vocals still sound great.

I went to the concert for Mark Farner. I've seen him many times before. Mark is fantastic. Blue Oyster Cult was the headliner. They were just O.K. To me Mark Farner should of been the headliner.

BOC played a great set list and sounded great. Favorite song was ETI and the crowd seemed to agree. Buck Dharma can play some mean guitar!

  • B.O.C concert

by Woody on 11/14/22Cross Insurance Center - BangorRating: 4 out of 5

The first band to play was Mark Farner from Grand Funk Railroad and he played a lot of there hit songs.I thought he did a great job and his vocals haven’t lost a thing. The only negative thing I heard was the bass was mixed so loud it was drowning out some of the great guitar playing.Blue Oyster Cult also put on a great show but I must confess I didn’t know a lot of there songs other than the big hits.None the less there was a lot of great guitar solos and it was nice to hear songs not played on the radio every day.The only complaints I had with the Cross Insurance Center was that the chairs are too close together and the drink prices are too high. All in all though it was a great evening.

  • Some Enchanted Evening indeed

    by G. J. on 11/14/22Rating: 5 out of 5

Gotta give them credit for hitting outlying areas like NH and Maine, especially after the two year drought, even if it was just the core band and not Albert or other big name performers mentioned in other reviews. Venue is an upscale jazz club that seats 6 at 4' diameter round tables, so you have plenty or room and get to talk to other fans A LOT cause show time 8 did not start until after 9:30, with an audience in their 60's to 70's that's a bit late but the guitar solo dude who previewed was actually pretty good. But BOC stopped the yawning with a show equal or superior to those I saw decades ago. No more extravagant light show, no strobe lights in your face, no smoke emitting paper mache dinosaur head, just back to basics. As per other reviews, what you weren't expecting were the highlights of the show, that featured hot guitar work from the keyboard player that at times rivaled Warren, sometimes with Eric fretting too, or backing up the Hammond. Some of the archive I didn't even recognize, while the announced new numbers were satisfactory and just like old times. Buck takes over for a few stretches as expected. No drum solo, but there's an extra song there cause of that. Some in the audience said the set list varies, backed up by other reviews here. I wish I could go to this show every night.
