About

Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

  • You Can Never Go Back

by Mare on 3/2/22Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 3 out of 5

This concert was hubby's choice, not mine, although I was looking forward to a few familiar tunes. Overall, it was disappointing. Not a single original member of the band was present. However, before the band came onstage a recording of one of the band founders was played explaining that the new members were all chosen for their expertise and were considered highly regarded. He was correct-their musicianship of the band was excellent. HOWEVER, we had several issues with the band. The horn section was way too brassy and loud. At times we couldn't hear the singer. We didn't hear that full roundness we expected. The lead singer although having a very good voice, didn't have the right voice for the band. It was very nasal and a bit high. The deep soulfulness of David Clayton-Thomas just wasn't represented. In sum, I tried to appreciate the musicianship of the performers in view of themselves instead of as a cohesive BW&T band.

This was the worst concert I have ever attended. If you were looking forward to great singing this wasn’t the concert for you. The drummer was fantastic. For the first time in my life we left really early. Just couldn’t take it any longer.

  • Worst concert ever

by Denise F on 3/1/22Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 2 out of 5

First off the lead singer sounded NOTHING like BTS. He wasn't even good enough to be a tribute artist. If it wasn't for the horn section we wouldve walked out. Other than the brass section the other guys seemed like they didn't even want to be there. I was so looking forward to seeing this band. They should NOT be billed as BST.

  • Fantastic show....good to hear the oldies live

by deebee on 3/1/22Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 5 out of 5

The band was really tight (especially the horn section). Loved hearing the old tunes, and a few others the new lead singer chose to do. Nice addition!!! I think they should somehow let folks know there are no longer original members to the band. For example, there is a cover band who plays only Steely Dan tunes (quite well I might add), and they named themselves "Nearly Dan." Nice spin, and makes the point. Thx Dee, GreenValleyGirl

  • The band was good but not what I was expecting

by Toni on 3/1/22Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 3 out of 5

The band should not point out that the lead singer is a new addition (even though we all know it). It sets for an experience that you know is not going to be from the good old band. Also, he should not have said (even if true) that Blood Sweat and tears mostly sang other peoples songs. That also may be true but did not need to be said. I did not recognize any of the music (although it was very good) until the last three songs. All the members except 2 seemed to be very young so that also was weird from a old band. I guess old musicians have retired.

  • Great Music!!

by Derb on 3/1/22Tulalip Resort Casino - TulalipRating: 5 out of 5

Love Blood, Sweat and Tears! Great music. Great memories. They did start their show late, which I didn't love. But it was a very good show!!

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears.

by SnowSteve on 2/14/22Orleans Showroom - Las VegasRating: 3 out of 5

The music is very good. The new singer does not match up with the original guy. No original band members - just a recorded message from the original drummer. More of a tribute band than anything to do with the original. Musicians are very talented.

  • BS & T

Overall it was underwhelming. A Mediocre cover band at best.

  • Easy access

by Joe on 2/14/22Orleans Showroom - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Even though there are no original members I wouldn’t call this a tribute band. The new lead singer is awesome. Band very tight. Glad to see them keeping the music alive

  • Had a great time

by Formerly From Chicago on 2/14/22Orleans Showroom - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

Venue was good. Easy to access, nice number of seats with good stage views from all locations. The band's members are all extremely talented and they played all of the tunes I remembered plus many I didn't. First saw them in 1970 and enjoyed them just as much this time even though none of the band members from that era are still with the group. Lead singer has a good strong voice.

  • Fabulous

by MMacB on 2/14/22Orleans Showroom - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

What a great, high energy show! Blood, Sweat & Tears keeps getting better and better. They are such a good reminder of the importance of live music. Every musician was on top of their game, and the lead singer had an amazing voice and was most engaging with the audience. The Orleans showroom was a perfect venue...not too big, super sound system. Would definitely go back to see them again and will tell our friends to do the same.

Great talent, tight sound. If you have the opportunity go, outstanding musicians and performers.

  • Excellent Concert

    by Michele W. on 10/20/21The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Blood Sweat & Tears was excellent I had great seats the singer was awesome and we got to see one of the original band members. It was our 27th Wedding Anniversary and our wedding song was you make me so very happy. It was incredible to hear them sing that song live. I can't wait until they come back again so that I can see them again.

  • This was one of the best live concerts I've seen.

The talent was absolutely superb and an excellent mix of songs.

  • Not Blood, Sweat and Tears

by Ron on 10/19/21Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 1 out of 5

We were very disappointed. We traveled 4hrs and expected at least a resemblance of B, S, and T. But, they didn't sound at all like them. After four songs we were ready to leave when they finally played a B, S, andT song so we stayed a little longer. What they tried with organ and trumpet solos was terrible. The organist was banging a lot of keys, but it didn't sound good. When you assume a band's name, the people who attend do so because they like the music of the original band.

  • Disappointing

by Groucho on 10/19/21Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

Great musicians. Singer was ok. But it was like a jam session for any group vs a tribute to BSandT. Rather than the singer talking about himself more could have been talked about the group and their history. They “ made it their own” but we came hear BSandTmusic.

  • Great Show...horrible venue

by Pete on 10/19/21Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 2 out of 5

Loved the music at the show. I've been a BS&T fan for years. Too bad there aren't any original band members still playing, but the band did sound great. My review rating is really about the venue, and specifically 2 areas. First, the parking situation was horrible. My wife and I arrived at the venue about 45 minutes before the start of the show and drove thru the self park 3x and unable to find a spot. We tried to valet, but that was only available for Platinum club members. We finally found a surface lot with the gate to leave open, so we drove in and parked there. We rushed to get to the show and finally got into the venue about 10 mins after the show had started. My wife wanted to get a drink, and AGAIN, another horrible issue with the venue. There was no bar inside the venue. We had to leave, go past security out to a bar in the casino that was already busy servicing all of the gamblers. It took another 30 minutes before we got our drinks missing a large portion of the show. NOT HAPPY and probably won't be going back to another show at Harrah's.

  • The music of BS&T lives on!

by JP on 10/19/21The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 4 out of 5

OK...so it wasn't David Clayton Thomas, but the music of Blood, Sweat and Tears lives on in its current iteration. An outstanding brass section (with a sax) that kept true to the recordings of yore. Excellent guitar and percussion work. The front man for vocals, from TV's The Voice, Keith Paluso, deserves credit for his hard work on stage, but is rough around the edges. It's a tall order to try to fill DCT's shoes! A stellar moment was the chance to hear, watch and then meet original BS&T bass guitarist Jim Felder who played a couple of their classic songs. After all is said and done...it's all about the music!

  • Disappointed

by Gerry on 10/19/21Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

Lead singer was not as good as David Thomas. He sounded too country and sang tenor.

  • Great Show!

The band was great! The audience definitely enjoyed them!
