Blood, Sweat & Tears on Tour

Though they haven't released a new studio album since 1980, Blood, Sweat & Tears have never left the road. And although their current lineup features none of the players who appeared on their string of hit singles from their late-'60s/early-'70s commercial peak, their original mission — to fuse the compositional complexity of jazz with the power and precision of rock ‘n' roll — has carried on under the guidance of founding drummer Bobby Colomby, who no longer performs with the group but still serves as their de facto spiritual advisor/casting director. Over the years, Colomby has enlisted a number of singers — including American Idol alumnus Bo Bice — to fill the big shoes vacated by BST's most famous vocalist, David Clayton-Thomas. Since 2019, that role has been occupied by Keith Paluso, a former contestant on The Voice. But no matter who's belting out the hits, a Blood, Sweat & Tears show is guaranteed to be a brasstastic experience.

Blood, Sweat & Tears in Concert

Al Kooper could've retired in 1965 already a legend at age 21, thanks to his iconic keyboard work on Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." But the restless musician would go on to play a crucial role in expanding the parameters of popular music when he joined improvisational New York group The Blues Project, before founding the even more ambitious Blood, Sweat & Tears with guitarist Steve Katz in 1967. The group's debut album, Child Is Father to the Man, was a groundbreaking fusion of rock, jazz, psychedelia and orchestral music, though creative differences would drive Kooper out of the band shortly after its release, with Katz and drummer Bobby Colomby seeking to push the group into a more accessible direction. They'd find their golden ticket into the Top 40 in the form of Canadian singer David Clayton-Thomas, a charismatic, big-voiced showman who contributed the signature single "Spinning Wheel" to the band's 1969 Grammy Award–winning self-titled album and led the group at their historic Woodstock performance that summer. Over the next few years, Blood, Sweat & Tears stood at the forefront of a jazz-rock revolution that counted Chicago and Santana as compatriots, showcasing their bold, brassy sound on swaggering originals like "Lucretia Mac Evil" and inventive covers (like their soulful rendition of Carole King's "Hi-De-Ho"). Clayton-Thomas left the band in 1972 to pursue a solo career (only to return in 1975), and since the release of 1980's Nuclear Blues, Blood, Sweat & Tears have existed primarily as a live act, with an infinite array of revolving lineups — in fact, no fewer than 175 players have passed through their ranks over the years. But under Colomby's direction, Blood, Sweat & Tears have survived and thrived into the 21st century with their big-band bonhomie intact.

  • Great Music

The concert was great. It was a little hard to hear the singer though because the instruments were too loud. I love seeing concerts in a small theater, it's much better than a huge crowd.

  • Wow…

I saw the original Blood, Sweat and Tears at the Park West in Chicago many years ago and they were great then…but this new group of musicians gave a performance that surpassed anything I’ve heard…the best for sure!

  • Okay

I should've looked further but this was a tribute band which was not presented as such! the only singer/vocal had a great voice but his stage presence lacked lust... passion that I've seen previously from the original band. They played all the great songs and had instrument solos which were incredible. My opinion, the instrumental portion and vocals of blood sweat and tears has not been achieved as I have seen in a no. of other tribute bands. If you go and can sit and close your eyes and listen to the music... enjoy

  • Very good concert. Only lasted an hour and fifteen minutes.

Too short of a concert for the money. Was not happy with the short concert.

Excellent concert! Every band member was highlighted and was superb! A great show!

  • Reminds me of the 70s

by Sweetie on 3/23/22The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The band was amazing - lead singer over the top. I would recommend they play one or two of the old songs we grew up with earlier in the show instead of waiting to the end. Other than that, great performance, wonderful night.

  • Great Vocals

    by RO K S on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

A twist on the original band. Strange there was no name on the drum. They played many of the original tunes And had a lot of instrumentals. Wish there were more sing a-longs. The lead singer told a story of how he joined the band. He had a great voice. Brass section was good. Just not the same.

  • I thought the show was awesome.

With no original players, you would never know it. The sound rang true to the way back when… he hand picked the perfect group.

  • Excellent instrumentalists, pretty good vocalist

by SCS on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

Tight band, particularly bass and brass. Drummer looks a bit bored at times, but plays well; when soloing, lead guitarist's facial expression looks like he got something stuck in his zipper -- but he plays well. Singer was personally engaging with a good back-story, but not quite up to some of the songs.

  • BST was AWESOME!

by Katie on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen so many bands where the original musicians (and lead singer) were long gone and more often than not it wasn't a great experience. These guys nailed it, they were all so talented and the lead singer had a great voice and was a HOTTIE! Couldn't beat the price for the tickets either and I was in the front row! :)

  • most disappointing revival concert group ever

by Buster B. on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 1 out of 5

They played about an hour of unfamiliar music with a lot of solos (meaning they were filling time). The crowd was dead until some old favorites were played in the 2nd half. The music was good but the singer nothing like the OG's. Would never waste money on them again...

  • Tribute

by Gary c on 3/22/22Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

Good show, great performers, this band should be billed as a Tribute Band because there isn't one original member in the band!

  • Should of advertised Tribute Band Blood Sweat and Tears

by L. H. on 3/21/22The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona BeachRating: 2 out of 5

Very disappointed, that not one of the "Real" members of Blood Sweat and Tears, this should of been advertised as Tribute Band. They did not even sound the same. For the main singer to brag he has only been there a few years, how is he suppose to live up to the success of the True "Blood Sweat and Tears". Very disappointed

  • Just right

by Howie on 3/20/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 5 out of 5

Totally impressed with the musicians. I have never seen fingers move so fast on the guitar and keyboard. Fabulous. Always been a great band

Good venue, great music. Not the original group but very entertaining. Glad I went

  • Great Band Playing

by Lar on 3/20/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

The band itself was very good but the lead singer, although he sang well, just was not the right fit. Of course, David Clayton Thomas left the band years ago, but that bluesy gritty voice perfectly suited the BS&T experience. The new guy's voice did not fit so well to often rough and tumble music of the band, They also did not play any later-than 70s songs, even though BS&T continued to make great music into the 80s. The song, "I was a Witness to a War" dedicated to Ukraine would have been a great closer but not done, What??? Too political for a band from a band from the late 60s and the 70s?

  • Blood, Sweat & Tears

by Dr Sha on 3/20/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 4 out of 5

Tight Band especially the horn section. Amazing drummer, Great harmonies. The jazz interludes were well rehearsed and one could sense the improvisational nature of them. The lead singer ran the show well and had a similar tone. He was close enough to David Clayton-Thomas to bring back good memories. At $60 a seat, a great investment for an evening out. Recommend

  • BS&T Rocks the house

by Rodger on 3/20/22The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona BeachRating: 5 out of 5

When it comes to horn bands that can rock the house and be faithful to past successful hits, this is the group that delivers! Fantastic evening!!

  • Blood, Sweat and Tears

by D. W. on 3/20/22The Peabody Daytona Beach - Daytona BeachRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time at the Peabody. I enjoyed the size of the theatre, ease of getting to and from seats and was happy with our choice of seating. The concert was great. From the guitarist, to the drummer, the horn section and the keyboard. It wasnt only the singer who performed. Wow, great show!
