Blackberry Smoke on Tour

Though they've had their biggest success in the country market, the guys in Blackberry Smoke are rock 'n' rollers at heart. When they hit the concert stage, that becomes immediately apparent, but of course, so does the twangy side of their sound. Ultimately, what comes across is a roots-rocking blend that incorporates the influences of classic Southern rock, '70s/'80s heartland rockers and yes, a dash of modern country. And whether they're delivering a chugging good-time tune like "Rock and Roll Again" or a reflective ballad like "Let Me Down Easy," what comes through the loudest is the band's authenticity. These ol' boys are the real deal, playing it their own way with no nonsense and no rock-star moves. And since they do exactly what they feel, don't be surprised if that extends to covers of songs by their favorite artists such as Little Feat, The Grateful Dead or Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Blackberry Smoke in Concert

Blackberry Smoke has always done things their own way, rising to stardom by building an audience from the ground up, remaining resolutely independent and staying true to their roots. The band formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2000, with singer/guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist Paul Jackson, and brothers Richard and Brit Turner on bass and drums, respectively, and that lineup remained intact into their breakthrough and beyond, adding keyboardist Brandon Still in 2009. They released their debut album, Bad Luck Ain't No Crime, in 2003, but it wasn't until their third album, 2012's The Whippoorwill, that Blackberry Smoke started achieving major commercial traction. Their next record, 2015's Holding All the Roses, reached No. 1 on the country charts as well as No. 29 on the pop tally, underscoring the band's pan-genre appeal. Their homegrown blend of Southern rock and country has remained authentic and untainted through it all.

  • Blackberry Smoke was good; sound mix was bad

    by doubleL2 on 3/12/12Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 3 out of 5

I love this group and looked forward to hearing them live. However, the sound was terrible. Vocals were overwhelmed by a "wall of sound" from the guitars. Almost impossible to hear the words. Just a loud fuzzy mix. I expected better from the Hard Rock -- they know their music. Would like to see them in a different venue or with a different sound man.

Someone needs to give these guys a major record label deal! (Hello, Kid Rock!!! Why haven't you signed them????) They are old school southern rock..with new songs and GREAT lyrics. They perform outstanding LIVE!!! If you've not seen them, you should. If you want to hear them...google them. They sell their cd's and merchandise. Be sure to look for them in a town near you in the near future, they are touring maniacs! They will perform at casinos and cow pastures! Blackberry Smoke simply ROCKS!!!!!!

Great show. My wife and I had a fantastic time. They played all their best songs. The Hard Rock is a wonderful venue for live shows.

I have seen them six times in the last year, and every show just gets better and better. They are the new face of Southern Rock, and to top it off just a bunch of great guys.

  • Blackberry Smoke rocked the Buckhead theatre

    by Blueskies1205 on 1/31/12Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It is so good to see a true rock band that are'nt hung up in the pretty boy flavor of the day music scene. These guys rocked from the start just like the old days when music meant something..... This was a show that gives hope and proof that true, good rock and roll and real rock and roll bands do still exist.... Excellent job Blackberry Smoke...keep it up

  • Blackberry Smoke was Great

by LaLaMusic on 1/30/12Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

Three opening acts is way too much -- Blackberry Smoke didn't go on until 10:30. For us older folks, there was limited seating - got to doors an hour before opening so I could get a seat (limited available) in the balcony. I watched (60)+ reserved seats sit empty until around 10:30. That was a bit much if you ask me. Will see Blackberry Smoke again, but not with (3) opening acts. Would like to hear some new stuff from Blackberry Smoke as well -- hope they have something new coming out soon! Guess I'm just too old for that these days. It was hard to rate if I would recommend it to a friend -- I did enjoy the music VERY MUCH - I would make certain I let friends know what to expect if they decide to go a gig like this.

  • Blew the roof off the place...... like always!

by BBSOldFriend on 1/30/12Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Blackberry Smoke was awesome as always. I was glad they did an "all ages" venue because my two underage sons got to go and they loved it. Brian Collins was awesome as well. All the bands did a good job.

  • Blackberry Smoke and others were awesome

by farmdaddy on 1/30/12Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

All bands put on a great show but Brian Collins band would be worth going to see on their own. Great show all around

  • Blackberry Smoked Rocked

by lakelizard on 12/6/11Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

As always it was a great show with Charlie and the boys of Blackberry Smoke. The opening band was good at their own brand of music, but would have been better with the local boys of Rambler opening for BBS. The venue reminded me of House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC and could have maybe had a little more in the way of seating, ie: maybe some more bar stools around the perimeter of the upstairs viewing area.

The band was great but the drink prices were too high and there was no seating.

  • BBS totally rocked it!!!!

by Sammiebobby on 12/5/11Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

BBS was amazing..will see them on Simpleman cruise in Oct. The only bad thing was the band that opened for them. They did not fit with the style of music that BBS plays.

by srskenny on 12/2/11Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5
