Black Stone Cherry was founded in 2001 by guitarist and lead vocalist Chris Robertson and John Fred Young, drummer and backing vocalist, who were long-time friends. Joining forces with Ben Wells on rhythm and lead guitars and Jon Lawhon on bass guitar, the band started out by playing gigs in their local town of Edmonton, Kentucky. John Fred Young is the son of rhythm guitarist Richard Young from the Grammy Award-winning band The Kentucky Headhunters, which Black Stone Cherry cite as one of their earliest influences, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Muddy Waters and Cream. In their early days the band rehearsed and wrote in the same farmhouse that The Kentucky Headhunters had used as rehearsal space.
The band quickly gained a following for their live shows in their home state of Kentucky, and by 2005 they were signed to Roadrunner Records. The band released their first eponymously titled album in 2006 and were given a huge welcome back at their home town, where they performed for over 1500 fans. A live album recorded at London's Astoria in October 2007 was produced to mark the final show of their first international tour and was released in a limited edition of just 1,000 copies. In the same year the band won an award for Best New Band at the London Classic Rock Awards.
It is their tours for which the band is best known. An arena tour of the UK and Ireland in 2008 saw them take to the stage with Whitesnake and Def Leppard, with Black Stone Cherry as the opening act. May 2009 saw the band supporting Nickelback on the European leg of their Dark Horse Tour. They have supported Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company and were the headline act at the 2013 Download Festival.

I wish we would have known there was going to be 3 opening bands. We live a hour away. We could’ve made better arrangements for our dog. We had to leave early to get home to care for him.
The venue was tiny but they gave it everything they had, just like it was an arena!
Black Stone Cherry always puts on an great show! Ayron Jones was great too! Nice venue, you can see the bands and get up close!
Great show from Black Stone Cherry and Ayron Jones
BSC was phenomenal just like they are every time! Venue was great as well.
Sound was great! They played all the hits and a few to be classics. The opening act, the Georgia Thunderbolts was also very good! All in all, a great night of soulful southern rock!
Blackstone Cherry just played a great small venue in ATL and absolutely blew the roof off. One of the best rock shows of 2021- a MUST SEE band. Georgia Thunderbolts opened and also “ rocked the house”!
Great show and band. This show was towards the end of their tour so they were very tight. Lots of energy, good setlist and Chris sang great. Played mostly newer songs, but also a few off the first 2 cd's. John Fred Young is an awesome drummer and Chris Robinson not only sings but plays leads, very entertaining to watch. Another great thing, the show was only $20!
The crowd was less than I expected, but is was a Wednesday. Black Stone Cherry played very enthusiastically regardless. The sound was very good, the lighting good but nothing special. I'm glad I made the trip downtown to catch the show!
Despite of an empty house the show was incredible. Great performance and sound quality of all bands.
Love these guys, every time seeing them is a great experience. It was our first time seeing the Georgia Thunderbolts but loved them also. First time attending an event at the Vogel, was a different experience, will have to see a few more shows before making a judgement on the venue itself.
This band is soooo ALIVE!!!! THE ANIMAL is AMAZING to see in person!! Chris you are a BADASS frontman AND lead guitar! And Ben, your energy is to die for....the new guy did a great job. Hell of a bass player...Rock On!! Hope to see you again real soon!!
One of my first concerts after COVID. Band had GREAT Energy!! Fantastic show!!! I was right up front! Caught 2 picks!! Easy to get in with the mobile ticket. no issues!
Great show in a small venue. This is the second time I have seen Black Stone Cherry and neither time was disappointing. Great interaction with fans, good sound quality, and tons of energy. These guys really know how to put on a show.
Had great seats, venue was super clean-even restrooms and parking wasn’t a nightmare! Will be seeing more shows there for sure!
This was our 12th time seeing Black Stone Cherry, 3rd time in 2019! Best southern rock group going right now in my opinion. We love these Kentucky boyz!
It was a great concert. I had seen Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown before and they were a huge draw for me, they always rock the joint. I knew I was going to like Black Stone Cherry (first time seeing them live) and now I am a huge fan of theirs as well. The Center Stage venue was perfect. (I was disappointed for the artists that the place wasn't full but weeknights are tough.) The artists were all very professional and brought the same energy as if it was 20K people.
Great show! Stage was big. The sound was really good and all 3 bands were AMAZING!
The show was incredible for a small venue. The intimate setting did not stop Black Stone Cherry from performing at their best. Love the show and venue. Could not beat it with a large venue. Scale 1 to 10...it was 10+ as perfect.
