About

Founded among the steel mills of Birmingham, England in 1968, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward formed what would arguably become the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Initially a heavy blues rock band named Earth, the band took occult and horror themes and combined them with heavily distorted down-tuned guitars and invented a genre that is as vibrant today as ever. Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, substance abuse and war. Releases such as Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971) are looked upon as vanguards, records which influenced artists as varied as Iron Maiden, Metallica and Soundgarden.
Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time, they have sold over 70 million records and countless concert tickets worldwide.

Black Sabbath  has had its share of tumult throughout the years -- Tony Iommi has been the only constant in the band. Singer Ozzy Osbourne's substance abuse issues led to his departure in 1979. He was ably replaced by Rainbow’s Ronnie James Dio. But after several successful albums and concert tours with Dio at the helm, Sabbath entered a period of constant change throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s. Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Tony Martin all took turn as front men until Osbourne reunited with his band mates in 1997. Since then, Black Sabbath has reformed to play concert tours and record on several occasions, lastly upon the 2013 release of the band’s 19th studio album, 13, which featured all original members sans Bill Ward.

    Black Sabbath 7-25-13

by kickstartcrue on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

The show was great but Ozzy was having a hard time towards the end of the show , but I will blame that on the heat more than anything. The band was on fire and they played great and seeing how this might be the last time to see Black Sabbath in concert I would encourage all metal fans to go.

Anyone who thought the Houston show was good was simply playing homage to what "was" and no longer "is". War Pigs was great, it made me want to cry! Oh, my gosh, it's Black Sabbath! After that, I was looking around at everyone to see if there was a look of horror on their faces. Ozzy was so out of tune that it hurt. Tony and Geezer were on target. I kept wondering "are they embarrassed"? If we want to throw the age excuse in there, well, why are they still so damn good and Ozzy sounds like a 90 year old woman out of tune in the church choir? I would've had so much more respect for him had he just NOT tried to carry on like he did before. It was pitiful. The Texas heat, well it is BRUTAL. He was so drenched. The thing is by SONG 2 he was already screwing things up so I can't blame it on the heat. We love our old bands, we are so excited when something like this reunion occurs. I am not regretful that I went, I brought my 16 year old son and we had a great time. But, let's be honest, age isn't exactly why Ozzy is in this predicament. As a final word, we bought the new album. You know how with the bands you grew up with, 30 years later, you don't want to hear anything but that original stuff. If the middle aged guy next to me didn't yell "PLAY F***ING SWEET LEAF, YOU MOTHER F*******!" once, he yelled it 100 times! Here's the deal, the new album, it is awesome. So awesome that I can put it in the cd player and just let it go all the way through. Kudos for that guys! For the rest of the tour, I hope that Ozzy can find a way to get it together.

I also saw Black Sabbath in 78 with Eddie Van Halen at the Spectrum in Philly. Eddie blew everybody away that nite. I don't remember much else of the concert.

    Black Sabbath since the 70s

by Sunlizzard on 5/2/13Various - Various

I first saw Sabbath in 1978, the Never Say Die tour, it was Ozzy's birthday, a young Van Halen opened. Even though it was Ozzy's swan song it was spectacular. Then around 1980 saw Dio with the Heaven and Hell tour, which Dio was great. In 1995 I saw the Forbidden tour which had Motorhead open up and Tony Iommi and all new supporting members...my date was spectacular, the concert not so much. Then in 2000 it happened, the Reunion tour. I was there, so was Pantera and Incubus. Amazing! Yes, I'm getting old, but, work and health permitting, I will be there and it will be amazing. For all metalheads old and young: Be there!

    Black Sabbath is awsome!

by Rokit2u on 4/28/13Rock and Roll - Las Vegas

I am going to see Black Sabbath when they come to Las Vegas for the second time! I have seen them before when I was a teenager and always have considered that concert one of the best I had been to. So with that said the only other thing to say is "Hope to see you there"
