About

Founded among the steel mills of Birmingham, England in 1968, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward formed what would arguably become the greatest heavy metal band of all time. Initially a heavy blues rock band named Earth, the band took occult and horror themes and combined them with heavily distorted down-tuned guitars and invented a genre that is as vibrant today as ever. Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, substance abuse and war. Releases such as Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971) are looked upon as vanguards, records which influenced artists as varied as Iron Maiden, Metallica and Soundgarden.
Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time, they have sold over 70 million records and countless concert tickets worldwide.

Black Sabbath  has had its share of tumult throughout the years -- Tony Iommi has been the only constant in the band. Singer Ozzy Osbourne's substance abuse issues led to his departure in 1979. He was ably replaced by Rainbow’s Ronnie James Dio. But after several successful albums and concert tours with Dio at the helm, Sabbath entered a period of constant change throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s. Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Ray Gillen and Tony Martin all took turn as front men until Osbourne reunited with his band mates in 1997. Since then, Black Sabbath has reformed to play concert tours and record on several occasions, lastly upon the 2013 release of the band’s 19th studio album, 13, which featured all original members sans Bill Ward.

    Black Sabbath Rocked

by jpwhite139 on 7/29/13Frank Erwin Center - Austin

This was my first time ever seeing Black Sabbath, let alone with 3/4 of the original lineup. I know Ozzy has "issues" but he still has an awesome voice. I know he had a couple of goofs in the first couple of songs, but it wasn't anything bad. He caught fire after that and along with Tony and Geezer's outstanding playing, and Tommy Clufetos' killer drumming they ROCKED! I missed the first reunion tour so this was really exciting for me. I thought it was amazing. I could have done without Andrew W.K. as an opening "act". He is nothing more than a DJ playing albeit cool metal songs, but a DJ nonetheless! I really have NO idea what that was about. The Frank Erwin Center is a great venue for concerts-not too large and not too small for a show!

    OZZY was FLAT

by FCAR on 7/29/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

The first couple of songs Ozzy was right on key....then all of a sudden he started singing off key (FLAT). Except when he was singing the new songs ... he seemed to be on key again....so not sure if he couldn't hear or they changed key on him! But for $150 a head...it was disappointing.....

Ozzy needs to sing on Key or go!

by grumpyface on 7/29/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

Or local Ozzy tribute does a better job than the real band. I think they should get the lead singer of this band and finish the tour. They even look the same. Ozzy ruined the show for me. It was like watching a drunk singing karoke!

by Rodeoochic on 7/29/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

I was really surprised at the concert. This was my first Heavy Metal concert and it was awesome. I was really surprised at how well Ozzy actually did because I was really expecting it to be bad.

Last chance to see Black Sabbath Live

by GTR20 on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

No opening band. DJ instead. Overall sound was good. Musicianship was excellent, especially Geezer Butler on Bass. Tony Iommi is an underrated guitar player. The drummer was great, especially the drum solo. Ozzy's voice sounded strong but was off-key on many of the songs. Energy was good.

    Very good show

by DrewSt on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

Bad: Ozzy's voice was a little hit or miss. Heat at an outdoor arena in July in Houston was serious. Set list could have been a little better (but not much). Good: Considering their age, the heat, and the fact that Tony had chemo recently, it was all I could ask from human beings. Ozzy was very active and it he fell short it wasn't because he wasn't giving his all. He was 100% into the show. Tony and the rest of the band were spot on. I loved when they played some of the lesser known numbers like under the sun and into the void. THAT is what I really went to see!

    Black Sabbath

by Exclavion on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

Black Sabbath rocked, and it was great to see the everpopular Ozzy back on the vocals, and like he said at the show, "We made a new record! Can you fucking believe it?" So there's one happily crossed off the bucket List! To see my teenage idols; Black Sabbath live!

    Old and New Together

by ckbtull on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

The concert lasted a total of two hours without a break. Old staples like War Pigs and Paranoid along with new Is God Dead and End of the Beginning. Total of 17 songs, four of which are off of 13. Good performances from everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Geezer.

    Black Sabbath is Back

by Cantex99 on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

The band played a very tight show. Tony was amazing along with the drummer. Ozzy sang quite good, but at times it seemed his voices was weak, especially near the end of night. The sound was good throughout the night , but they ran into a little problem during God is Dead. Overall it was old school.

    Good band, lousy singer

by fanmom on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

I know Ozzy is a legend, but he is endangering his legacy by attempting to sing at this point. The band was tight and energetic which I enjoyed even though I typically don't listen to heavy metal. But Ozzy was really flat on just about every song, which became really obvious on the popular songs that everyone knew and sang along with. The band would play in one key, then Ozzy would join in a half step or full step lower. Every song! Maybe he can choose songs in a lower ranges or have the band adjust next time. Or stay in retirement.

    Ozzy was awesome

The concert was awesome and the venue was clean. The only thing bad about this venue was that we are in Texas and it was super hot.

    Black Sabbath still ROCKS!!!!

by tc969 on 7/28/13The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion - Woodlands

Band sounded just like they did years ago. Ozzy's unique voice has stood the test of time, as did the band as a whole. So greatful to have had the oppertunity to witness such anamazing group with so much history, and glad I was able to share that with my son. Don't make memories like that every day!
