Once we understood how to get into the stadium we had a great time. Very grateful for the accessibility options and the many food options too.
This was our first professional soccer game as a family and we loved it! We had 2nd-row seats, which were incredibly affordable, so we got to see how athletic and physical this game was. We were able to interact with players after and go out onto the field, which my kids loved. Those things were fantastic! But...not everything was rosy. First of all, there was only one entrance to the stadium. The walk to get to our seats was ridiculous. We had opted to eat dinner at the game. The food selection on the menus was great. But they were out of things like spicy chicken sandwiches and grilled chicken wraps. When we finally found some things to eat, we paid through the nose for it. $6 for a soft drink? $15 for a beyond burger? Absolutely insane. We won't be eating there again. Finally, when they water the field before each half, the first few rows got wet. All of our stuff got soaked. There was no warning. The sprinklers just shot up and the mist flew back onto us. Like a lot of mist. We'll be going back, but we'll definitely be better prepared.
I came up from Tampa Bay to watch the Rowdies take on the Legion and I thought the whole game was awesome! Admittedly, I played the heel in the stands but it was still a fun atmosphere!
Awesome team! Awesome stadium! Awesome atmosphere!
My overall experience at Birmingham Legion FC soccer match was great. I enjoyed myself immensely.
Legion games are fantastic and if you haven’t gone to one, you need to jump on board! Protective Stadium is a great setting for games.
Protective stadium is very nice, but it lost some of the personal touch. No longer drive right in, park (for free),and be in the game in a few minutes. Kind of missed the Legion announcer and the fireworks. It was the first game, so maybe some of those things will get "ironed"out. If this is the new normal, probably wont go as much.
Food was great. Stadium was clean and impressively organized. Customer service was polite and helpful.
Great experience. W enjoyed staff, stadium layout, close vicinity to restraints and restrooms.
For starters, I'm really excited about the potential of Protective Stadium, especially for larger events like UAB football games. I think it's a great addition to Birmingham. But I went for the Birmingham Legion vs. Atlanta United preseason match and was pretty unimpressed with the overall experience. I knew the crowd would look smaller in this stadium, but had hoped they'd circumvent that issue by closing off sections and bringing everybody closer together. A sports atmosphere builds upon itself and you don't get that when everybody is spread thin. Also, they had 4 people scanning tickets for all 10,000+ people who visited. The lines to get into the stadium were long because of this. And then we had to walk up the winding ramps and all the way across the stadium to get to the other endzone where the supporters' section was seated. But most importantly, the food and beer selection was terrible. They had zero local beer or food options and the items they did have were incredibly overpriced (classic BJCC move). I hope this is resolved in time for The World Games, when we have a chance to show the world the food and drinks that make Birmingham great. But for now, gone are the days of $6 cans of Good People IPAs like we had at BBVA field. I *might* purchase a single beer at games now, where I previously would have had 2+. I love the stadium. I think it's beautiful and an exciting opportunity for the city. But it removed all the hometown appeal of going to Birmingham Legion games and I feel like the overall atmosphere of games is going to suffer until the stadium can feel more full (through increased attendance or more methodical seating). And it'll be difficult to recruit new fans when the environment feels dead like that.
Over priced. Make it cheaper and fill the stadium and make your money from concessions. Kids should be free, grow your fan base!!
Love the new Protective stadium! Please make sure to adequately staff concessions during the season so the lines are better managed.
The teams and stadium were fantastic. The concessions are overpriced or it would have been 5 stars.
