About

Legendary New York-bred singer-songwriter Billy Joel has toured only sporadically in recent years, but fans have plenty of opportunities to score tickets to see him in concert going forward -- if they're willing to head out to New York's Madison Square Garden. Joel signed an open-ended deal with MSG that will have him playing a concert at the venue once per month for as long as there's demand. And demand has never been a problem for Joel at he historic New York venue; he played his first show there in 1978, and had logged 46 concerts at the arena by 2013.
New York isn't alone in its love for the singer. Joel has long been established as one of the top-grossing touring artists in the U.S., and has sold more than 150 million records over the course his four-decade career. After recording a long string of hits including "Piano Man," "New York State of Mind," "Just the Way You Are," "You May Be Right," "Pressure," "Uptown Girl," "We Didn't Start the Fire," and  "The River of Dreams," Joel decided that he was done writing pop and rock songs. It's a decision he's stuck with; it's been more than 20 years since he's recorded a new pop or rock album. He's composed new classical material instead, while continuing to play songs from his catalog in concert.

    Amazing show

by JJ1166 on 9/30/15Madison Square Garden - New York

Billy Joel never lets anyone down at his concerts. This is my tenth time seeing him in concert and each time it seems he puts on a better show. The way he was joking with the audience and even just thanking everyone for rearranging there plans due to the popes reschedule shows hes a humble and awesome performer. I can't wait to see him again .

    Billy Joel was sensational

    by KLD236 on 9/11/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

The Piano Man gave an unforgettable 2 1/2 hour performance at AT&T Park, mixing it up with many of his best tunes from over 40 years, and occasionally hamming it up with tributes to some memorable local bands of the Bay Area. Great accompanying musicians and outstanding overall technical sound work as well. Billy Joel remains an American music icon. Bravo!

    Great Production

    by Nigel75 on 9/10/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

He came out swinging for the fences and sadly went to the birds. His band is lacking. The drummer is a disgrace to Liberty DeVito. He played Zanzibar and I was happy. Then the cheese oozed out and I had to call it over during the encores. Billy sounded great, voice was strong. The band were a parody of his late 70's -mid 80's lineup. I complained the whole time, of course I did. Here is my bar, now hit it. Missed consistently and they enjoyed playing covers all night. Studio musicians, dull and lifeless playing ruin up a rare good night for Hicksville, New York's finest offer to the world. Killer mix and lights.

Billy Joel went deep in his catalog. He sang a lot of his "B-sides" and also his most popular songs. He's still great even though he didn't do "Just the way you are"

Instead of playing all the songs that we all know and love, he played five or six songs that were - shall we say- unknown. You can't say it was fill-in because the guy has material to play for four hours. Its not that he was promoting a new album since he does'nt have new music,. Not exacly sure why he left out classics such as Captain Jack, Only the good die young etc. This is my seventh BJ concert but have seen him in the Garden and smaller venues. Never in a stadium as large as ATT. Found it a bit loud and screachy.

    Rocking out . . . . . .

by DobieLady on 9/9/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

My husband and I totally enjoyed the Billy Joel concert. Gavin DeGraw opened for Billy and was on 45 minutes. Good mixing of styles . . . . Then Billy came on at 8:45 and kept it going until after 11:00PM . . .Did lots of favorites, but also some oldies and gives his band lots of latitude and focused play. We would do it again, in a *New York" minute.

a great show from a great showman

    by wewa59 on 9/9/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

Billy Joel really knows how to relate to an audience, his years performing have just polished his performance to perfection. This was his first visit back to San Francisco after 40 years, and he would sing snippets of SF-related songs (White Rabbit, I Left My Heart in SF). He was on stage for an over 2 hour long set, and had great energy and voice for the whole show. Between each song the spot lights would focus on him and he would tell a little anecdote, creating an intimate tone in the large venue. He chose a nice variety of songs from the 70s and 80s, all familiar tunes. The piano rotated 180 degrees so he would visible from both angles.

    Billy Joel

by TheHolyDuder on 9/9/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

Without a doubt the best concert I've ever been to. Joel and his band put on an amazing performance. They mostly played some deep cut songs that not many people knew but blasted out the last 5-6 songs with his hits. Joel is very entertaining and charismatic between songs, and the band kept playing little tidbits of covers just messing around. An amazing show!

    Billy Joel is a classic

by Anonymous on 9/9/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

The concert started with a high-powered rock star who set the tone while letting people get settled easily. Then, Billy Joel arrived on stage and the magic really began: at first it was slow and comfortable. The musicians gave the feeling of including the audience in one of their "jam sessions." AND then, it revved up to a full fledged rock concert, complete with variety and engaging set design. Billy Joel will not let his audiences down; he is wonderful.

    The Natural returns to SF

by bcinSac on 9/9/15AT & T Park - San Francisco

Billy Joel Concert Review @AT&T Park, San Francisco, 090515 It was a beautiful clear late summer day during Saturday of Labor Day weekend at AT&T Park. With the exception of Transbay BART being out of service, in all other respects the perfect setting for an outdoor concert to a near sold out audience….so much so that Billy added a second show on Sunday afternoon. Gavin DeGraw-(from South Fallsburg, New York)(“I Don’t Want to Be” (theme from tv series One Tree Hill), “Not Over You” was the warm-up band for Billy Joel with his 40 minute set. The two hit DeGraw is a shadowy resemblance to a much younger Billy Joel from the early 70s who moved around a lot on stage and even into the audience during his brief set and who is doing whatever (and appearing wherever he can) so he can to build his own mIf you have seen Billy Joel at other times during his long career you would notice that during this two hour set he did not get out of his chair to the point I was beginning to wonder if he had lost use or partial use of his legs. It was not until his one encore that he actually got up, moved around and started acting like the old Billy Joel. Billy joked when he came out that he was Billy’s father and Billy had taught him everything he knew. Other noticeable changes were the presence of Santa Clause-like reading spectacles that looked like they were specially made to be as transparent as possible but still hard to miss in the glaring lights. Billy also appeared to be quite winded from his performances—not surprising after decades of smoking and heavy drinking. He joked about it with throat spray before singing “Innocent Man”. There were several songs that became his calling card over the past two decades that were noticeably absent…including “I Go to Extremes”, “Prelude/Angry Young Man”, and Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway). Two of my personal favorites were also excluded: “Pressure” and “Only the Good Die Young.” Billy also seemed during the performance to be trying out songs from other artists as if to test for an album compilation. But hey, even Rod Stewart is back to writing his own music, and hopefully Billy will too. Billy (age 66) recently got married again on July 4th (Alexis Roderick, 34) and had a baby girl Della Rose Joel during August. He felt confident enough in his personal life to once again sing “Uptown Girl” during his encore (a song he said he would never sing again after divorcing Christie Brinkley). During his regular set he sang a stirring rendition of “Just the Way You Are” that he has not performed in many years. But the tone was set with the pre-amble song theme song from The Natural, followed by his opening song “Big Shot”. The big shot natural was back with his life back together, followed by “My Life” and “Keeping the Faith”. As mentioned before, Billy seemed searching for new things to play and included in his set “Sometimes A Fantasy” (from Glass Houses album), “Zanzibar” (from 52nd Street album), “Say Goodbye to Hollywood (from Turnstiles album), “The Entertainer” (from Streelight Serenade album), and “No Man's Land” (from River of Dreams Album). Billy closed his regular set with an audience participation version of “Piano Man”. His one encore closed with staples of ‘Its Still Rock and Roll to Me” and “You May Be Right” (from Glass Houses album). Clearly the audience would have liked him to play on. As his only west coast appearance this year, we hope Billy will return again to a fan base eager to hear The Natural play gain. usic portfolio
