About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Billy Idol - Mountain Winery

    by MrBlack99 on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 3 out of 5

Mr. Idol performance of his 'Hits" was very good. The new material was lack luster at best and seemed to take Billy and the band out of their rhythm. All of the 'Hits" were played in a set list that contained roughly 18 songs. As I had 2 children under 15 with me for this event, I was a little taken aback my Billy consistent usage of the 'F' word. While I understand language of this type is expected at a concert of this sort, Billy seems to use the word in every aspect of his speak.

  • Billy Still Rockin'

    by imelda1963 on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Had a really fun night at the show. Performance was great- high energy and fun. Crowd was totally into Billy and he still sounds and looks great. Only complaints were guitar solos were too frequent and there was a bit of a lull during the middle of the show, but other than those comments we loved seeing him!

  • Billy can still ROCK

by gomeshome on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

If you are a Billy Idol fan, this show is a must. The combination of Billy Idol and Steve Stevens is like stepping into a time machine and heading back to the 1980's. (I mean that in a good way.) The show wasn't perfect... They took their time getting started, and walked onto the stage 40 minutes after the scheduled start time (in typical ego-rock fashion). In a small venue with no opening band and a fixed stop-time, it felt like we were going to be cheated out of several songs. Their total playing time including encores was less than two hours, but that "cheated" feeling went away quickly after they started playing. The band led-off by playing several Gen X/first solo release songs, and ran through all of Billy's top hits. The quality of the sound was excellent, and Billy did a great job working the crowd. Steve's playing was solid, but far more subdued than the last time I saw him, with unusually short solos. On Mony Mony, instead of Steve's wild lead-solo-from-outer-space, Billy picked up a Strat and did a bad impression of a "guitar player". Speaking of guitar players, the recent addition of rhythm guitar player Billy Morrison in the live shows really works. He provides a tight solid layer of sound, and never clashes with Steve's playing. If you have never seen Billy Idol, go see this show. If you have already seen Billy Idol, go see this show.

  • IDOL ROCKS

by sfcorndog on 8/18/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol rocked the Fillmore last night. Stage setting really lit up the band. High energy. Lead guitarist was amazing. Did a great solo along with the drummer who is from San Francisco. Near the end of the show Idol was doing jumping jacks and then sang. White wedding 7 Mony Mony closed the show.

  • Yup, he still has it...and shows it.

by tzin on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great as ever and his voice still struck that special chord in me. Of course his band members were all able to stand out on their own and not drift in the background...Steve Stevens, incredible...and that wild-beast of a drummer, Jeremy Colson--please let me use OMG (just this once), unbelievable! On the other hand, Billy's drug references were unnecessary--his audience has been-there-done-it (maybe still might indulge now and then), but has moved on. For me it was kind of a down moment, to always have to try to recapture that intensity of youth-drug-sex-crazed days...no need.

  • Billy Idol Rocked the House at the Mt Winery!

    by campbellgirl99 on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol was awesome! I hope Mt. Winery brings him back. It was one of the best shows I have seen there in years!

  • by kaeleigh on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Billy was his usual smirky self. Steve was, as usual - awesome! New songs were great.

  • It was 80's night!

I've seen Billy three times now. He puts on a great show and has lots of energy. However, I'm not sure if it was the venure or the crowd but something was just a bit off with htis concert. Could have been because it seemed as though the crowd was more in to socialzing than the acutal concert. It was good but I wouldn't see him there at that venue. great venue ie its in a beautiful spot but the crowd just seemed kind of stuffy.

  • Billy Idol rocked!

by Schulzzy on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Love the Mountain Winery....Billy Idol has never looked or sounded better! Great energy...a mix of old and new music...I stood and danced and "rebel yelled" the whole time! Can't wait to see him again!

My husband and I went to see Billy at the Fillmore in SF in 2008 and thought he was fantastic and could not get any better.......but I was wrong. We really enjoyed watching him at the Mountain Winery.

by Dziac on 8/18/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Hard to believe he is in his 50s. Hasn't changed a bit. Steve Stevens and his new drummer rocked the Fillmore. Great show!

  • Billy's still got it

by doobiebrother on 8/18/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 4 out of 5

Billy Idol was strong last night at the Fillmore and the crowd ate it up. He stuck to his tour set list and the band was tight. He's got incredible stage presence and charisma. The 2 hour set could have been reduced to 1.5 and it would have been just fine.

  • Still ripped 25 years later..

    by Bex47 on 8/18/10Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Brilliant performance by the whole band. Billy looks even better than when I last saw him at Birmingham NEC not long after he'd fallen off his bike. ( He came on stage with a walking cane, but soon threw it away)! He is one sexy mother!

  • With a Rebel Yell, We cried MORE MORE MORE!!!

by rocknrollmamacita on 8/17/10Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol still knows how to rock the house. His chemestry with long time guitarist Steve Stevens is a perfect partnership that has lasted more than 30 years. Stevens is a monster on guitar! He played a flamenco inspired solo in the middle of the set that blew me away!!! Idol always puts on a great show for his fans and relates well with the crowd. Los Angeles seemed to love it! (And ladies....his body looked smokin hot) The 90 plus minute set included some Generation X tunes not played live for over 30 years, a few new tunes(really liked Scarred for Life) and some of Idol's greatest hits including Rebel Yell, Eyes Without a Face, Dancing With Myself, White Wedding, Flesh for Fantasy and LA Woman and closed the show with Mony Mony. I also really loved hearing Scream, a song off of Devil's Playground. I saw Idol at House of Blues in 2008 and remember it being one of my favorite shows I saw that year. This show I feel will also be a highlight for 2010 for sure!

  • Billy Idol was Great!

  • Idol at Palladium

by JHolo on 8/16/10Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Billy Idol is always cool . The show was great. The place was packed. However, the amp volume was way too high ... the sound was often greatly distorted (not to mention intensly painful to the ears). This does a great disservice to his music. Doesn't anyone pay any attention to this sort of thing during a concert?

  • Idol's Still Got It!!

by Mtpgzby on 8/16/10Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

The show and the crowd was great! The band was outstanding and made the music sound fresh and new. Idol is no longer a kid but still has the energy and charisma that gets a crowd involved and excited.

  • Billy Idol rocks!

Every time I see him it's awesome! Definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He sounds and looks sooooo good! He and his band are amazing!!! I like how there's no opening act. Just pure Billy for almost two hours. :)
