About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Billy Idol was fabulous!!

by MontanaGirls on 8/20/10Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy Idol was great, superb! This was a concert that could not be missed. I brought my daughter and my aunt from MT. Drove to Elko Saturday, into Reno on Sunday, attended the concert Sunday night and drove home on Monday (ugh - 14 hours). My mom loved Billy Idol (god rest her soul she passed away 3 yrs ago) and she shared her love of music with her grandaughter, my daughter, so this meant a lot to my daughter to attend. My aunt is my moms youngest sister so it was not only a trip because we totally love Billy Idol, but because it was a rememberance for my mom. Billy was very entertaining and his band rocked!! Steve Stevens was awesome! We had such a great time.

  • Billy Idol: He still has it!

by Delyizzle on 8/19/10Hollywood Palladium - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I've been aching to see Billy Idol for at least ten years and I finally had my chance to see him this past Saturday. It was AWESOME!!! It was my first time at the Hollywood Palladium and it's a fantastic venue. I absolutely loved it. There was no opening band, and somehow that just made everything a lot better because you knew that everyone there was there to see Billy Idol. Once the music started playing, everyone went nuts, and it was an awesome performance. It all sounded great, very loud and very clear. Billy Idol is such a great guy to see perform. He dances and runs around on stage, gets very involved with the audience and even jokes around with band members between songs. You can tell that he loves performing and has a lot of fun doing it. And for all the ladies out there, he looks really good doing it too! So much so that someone near the front of the stage actually threw their erm..."undergarments" onstage. All in all, it was a great night, I had a fantastic time, and this was so insanely worth the 10 year wait!

  • I want MORE, MORE, MORE--Billy Idol!!

  • God among men

by SFToni on 8/18/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

At the age of 55, Billy Idol out performed any band/artist that I have ever seen that is half his age. His presence and energy level was superior to anything I have experienced in all of the concerts/festivals I have ever been to. He also put together a band that is technically supreme. Steve Stevens brought back the art of playing guitar. He actually played riffs that were longer than 30 seconds and displayed an impressive amount of talent that kept the crowd hooked. This was my first time seeing Billy and his band live and I have to say it was the best concert I have been to... EVER! Billy Idol has proven once again that he is a God among men. That was a REALLY tough performance to beat.

  • awesome!

by TCMCC on 8/18/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Billy really knows how to put on a show and the Fillmore is always the best place to see your favorite performer. The sound seemed a little off at first but after a few songs they worked it out. EVERYONE was dancing by 30 minutes in. A span of 30 years between some attendees ages. EVERYONE was rocking out! There were some new songs mixed in but mostly the old faithfulls. It was a blast!!!!! Will go again if he comes back.

  • Billy Still Rockin'

    by GDfan476 on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Billy can still rock at 54. He played for almost two hours. Not bad for an old guy.

  • Billy Idol still has sexy goin' on

  • Idol Rocks on in His 50's

by Banzaii on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Billy Idol, now in his mid-50's, put on a 2 hour non-stop R&R show at Mountain Winery, ending with blow-out versions of his signature songs, White Wedding, Rebel Yell, and Mony, Mony. He looked fab and Steve was his usual fantastic self on guitar.

We saw Billy Idol at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA on 8-16-10. It's hard to believe he is the age he is! He put on an absolutely awesome performance! He looked and acted like he did twenty years ago! We had a great time and would definitely see him again the next time he comes around.

  • Billy can still rock like a maddog!

by MartineF on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

It almost seems incongruent to see Billy Idol at the Mountain Winery, but it was fantastic to see him so close. He doesn't look like an old guy trying to be cool or punk, he's Billy Idol! He's still got the awesome, fun, subversive attitude/sneer and chiseled physique! My 14 year old L-O-V-E-D every minute and so did I!

  • Billy Idol rocked it!

by andieR on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 4 out of 5

Billy Idol was as great today as he was 25 years ago. The guy doesnt look his age at all and still puts on a great show! Sounds good and looks even better. The winery is a nice venue, calm quiet, relaxed, and beautiful grounds. Nice view too! Great to be able to get some good food ahead and just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. The only thing that was a downer was the friends of the people sitting in front of us moving into empty seats and obnoxiously dancing around blocking our view. That got old real quick. Shouldnt be allowed

  • Billy Idol was very awesome (loved the abs!)

    by Melanie781 on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed Billy Idol at the Saratoga Mountain Winery. I brought my teenage daughter with me and she loved it also. He was very charming and his bandmates were fantastic. Steve Stevens is one heck of a guitar player. Would definitely go again. :D

by Brockie on 8/18/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

The entire band performed great!!! It was just an awesome concert - as usual when Billy visits the Bay Area :-))) He even invited "the locals" to join his band. Mr. Keyboard from Santa Cruz and the "Animal" drummer from SF. Sorry guys, don't have your names handy ;-) The concert was on a Monday. What better start into a week can you think of than a Billy Idol concert. PLEASE visit us soon again, Billy and band!!!
