About

That face, that name, that sneer. Rock icon BILLY IDOL, known for a plethora of hit singles including “Rebel Yell,” “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself” “Eyes Without A Face” and many more, returns this summer to perform at The Outer Fields, Western Springs on Sunday, January 19.

Sharing the stage for an epic Sunday afternoon and evening of live music are seminal New Zealand artists Stellar* and Elemeno P.

Artisanal beers, wines and great food, as well as fun attractions, will add to the festival ambience of the day. The event is GA/All ages so bring the family and settle in for a late Summer’s Sunday of great entertainment.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, Billy Idol remains to this day a true rock 'n' roll icon. From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, Billy Idol hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged.

Idol’s lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognisable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played.  He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the US and 10 in the UK.  Hit singles include ‘Dancing With Myself’, ‘Hot In The City’, ‘Eyes Without A Face’, ‘Rebel Yell’, ‘Mony Mony’, and arguably Idol’s most famed song ‘White Wedding’.

Legendary four-piece band Stellar*, fronted by the dynamic singer/songwriter/guitarist Boh Runga, are Sony New Zealand’s highest selling Kiwi band. Dominating the airwaves and charts throughout the early 2000’s Stellar* boast three Top 10 albums, 9 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and a legion of fans throughout the country.

Known for their pulsating live performances, Stellar* return in 2020 to perform a series of special shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their 5 star debut album MIX. That album sold 80,000 copies (5 x Platinum) and generated five top 20 singles – ‘Part Of Me’, ‘Violent’, ‘Undone’, ‘Every Girl’ and ‘What You Do (Bastard)’ – all massive radio singles and indelibly etched in the Kiwi music landscape.  Expect a dynamic set featuring MIX in full, more hits, plus their killer version of Sharon O’Neill’s ‘Maxine’ – which took the 2017 Vodafone NZ Music Awards by storm.

In the early 2000’s Elemeno P erupted onto the New Zealand rock scene, seemingly from out of nowhere. A four-piece with straight-arrow, energetic, power-pop anthems. A succession of massive hits such as ‘Verona’, ‘Every Day’s A Saturday’, ‘Fast Times in Tahoe’ and ’11.57’ followed.

Equipped with a fun-loving attitude, Elemeno P soon became household favourites across the nation, releasing a trifecta of top tier albums in the space of six years.

The band’s debut album ‘Love & Disrespect’ was released in 2003, reaching number #1 on the New Zealand album charts and went on to sell triple platinum. Two more albums would follow, selling Platinum and Gold respectively and leading to the band taking home Best Group at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2008. Elemeno P make a welcome return to the stage in January 2020.

  • Billy Idol was amazing and is ageless

by zingo on 9/16/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, all the hits and what a great band he has! I've seen him 3 times now and would see him again. House of blues though is set up kind of crappy to see a band. I paid for good seats but had to stand and move forward to see the stage. The drinks are also pricey just like all venues I guess.

  • Billy is still Billy

Having seen Billy Idol perform many times, over many years, it's comforting that he still likes to rock. I was, however, a little disappointed in this particular performance: maybe it was the late start (1 1/2 hours), or the very high, distant seats with a railing obstructing the stage view (seats that were purchased online within an hour of the sale opening, but far inferior to nearly all other seats in the house-- once again the scalper agencies got all the good seats), maybe it was all the "fans" more interested in going for more drinks than staying in their seats for the music, maybe it was Billy doing the exact same song set-telling the exact same stories, etc as the last couple of times I've seen him, maybe it was the poor sound mix that blurred the vocals and amped the guitars. I don't know, it all seemed a little stale. I will see him again, but not at the House of Blues, Boston.

  • BEST BILLY IDOL SHOW YET!!

by Monte22 on 9/16/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Billy Idol a total of 3 times in the last 20 years. House Of Blues, Boston was the smallest venue. And I have to say in my opinion the BEST OF THE 3 SHOWS!! He played his hits, talked and dance with the crowd. He seemed to thoroughly enjoy being up there for his fans. Great Show!!!

  • Billy still rocks

by spectro on 9/16/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I had seen Billy on the Rebel yell tour, and about five years ago when he released the Devel's Playground album. Both were great shows. This show was in a smaller venue (HOB Boston), and had a more rock and roll feel, as opposed to the last tour which was a little more pop/nostalgic leaning. The sound system was great and Billy and the Band rocked out for close to two hours. Steve Stevens still works it, taking time to perform some increadible solo stuff (Zeppelin riffs, classical spanish stylings, etc. while Billy changed, rested, or did whatever it is he does). He's got a new drummer and rhythm guitar player now and both are pretty young, probably early twenties so they've got the stamina to really rock out. The show never got boring or felt like it was dragging as these guys kept the energy and volume flowing all night.

  • Billy Idol Rocked the House of Blues!

by megw on 9/16/10House of Blues Boston - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We love Billy Idol, always have, always will and there are good reasons for that: he gives great show! He absolutely killed the audience Tuesday night. Two solid hours of great music and showmanship. He played all the favorites from Dancing with Myself to Flesh for Fantasy to Rebel Yell, White Wedding, Mony, Mony, LA Woman and some new tunes that were also very good. His lead guitarist, Steve Stevens is absolutely one of the best lead guitarists from the past 30 years. This is the third time we have seen Billy Idol in the last 8 years and he just keeps getting better and better. Long Live Bill Idol!

  • Billy Idol is hot!

He still has it. OMG! He looks great.....Steve can make his guitars speak like no other! Enjoyed the night, Met some nice people. Hope he returns....Flesh for Fantasy....Yummy!

  • Billy Idol ROCKS!!!

by Lunachick on 9/16/10Hammerstein Ballroom - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

Okay, so I had a major crush on Billy Idol when I was a teen. I went to a lot of shows but never got to see Billy Idol perform. Tonight I got to see him at one of my favorite venues, the Hammerstein Ballroom. What can I say? The show blew me away. The Hammerstein has great acoustics and that is why I like it so much. The band sounded awesome and the lyrics were clear. For a man pushing 55, Billy looked incredible. Steve Stevens kicked major ass on the guitar and the rest of the band were excellent musicians. I loved the show and even though it was two hours long, I would have liked just a little more. What can I say? I was feeling greedy. Just two minor things. The first is that he didn't play anything from Cyberpunk. But, he played all the old favorites and even threw a Gen-X song for the hell of it. The second thing was the guy with the Billy Idol poster. Dude, wait until the end of the show and get closer to the stage. You were really getting on my nerves.

  • Slash needs to headline Chicago!

by LisleLinda on 9/15/10Riviera Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We went to see Slash and planned on staying to see Billy Idol, but it was way too loud, so we left. It was so loud, that Slash's singer was holding his ears. I held mine through most of the show. Why does it have to be so loud? It was so loud, the sound was distorted. Anyway, great show put on by Slash and his group. After the show we met Myles Kennedy. My kids were star struck. He was really nice and took pictures with us and gave us autographs. It was a great time!

  • The Rebel Yeller Rocks!!!

by Pmaiu on 9/13/10The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - WindsorRating: 4 out of 5

Slash was awesome-Mile"s sounded better than Axel ever could-Billy Idol was solid and I think had to turn it up (Steve Stephens) to match Slash's intensity

  • Billy Rocked Rama

by megb on 9/13/10Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Billy rocked it bg time! He was excellent, his band excellent, his music (as always) was excellent, and the acoustics in the theatre were awesome. If he had done two shows I would have gone to both. I especially loved how he referred to Rama like it was a town. "It's great to be in Rama, Ontario." Very cute. He looked like he had a great time too -- and seemed really genuine about it. Hope to see him again soon! I love you Billy!!!!
