About

Billy Gibbons in Concert

From his awesome beard to his massive riffs and gravelly voice, Gibbons has been carving out his own place in music history for the past 50 years. Born in 1949 in Houston, Texas, to a father who was a concert pianist and orchestra conductor, Gibbons rebelled by picking up the electric guitar at age 13. As a teen he played in a number of bands, striking gold as his group The Moving Sidewalks penned the Doors-esque "99th Floor," which became a hit in Houston. Oh, and they opened for Jimi Hendrix during his first American headlining tour. Those experiences would give Gibbons the fire he needed going forward, as he would form ZZ Top in 1969. With the rough-riding, groundbreaking group, he found incredible mainstream success throughout their numerous platinum-selling releases (‘Degüelo,' ‘Eliminator,' ‘Afterburner'), chart-scorching singles ("La Grange," "Gimme All Your Lovin," "Sleeping Bag"), and numerous awards and distinctions, including an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Gibbons' solo career took off late in life, with his first solo LP dropping in 2015. ‘Perfectamundo' delivered everything one could desire from a Gibbons solo album: Afro-Cuban rhythms, grungy blues licks, and a Tom Waits-flavored general dirtiness. Its follow-up, the energetic ‘Big Bad Blues,' was released three years later, in 2018.

As a collaborator, Gibbons has lent guitar bliss to countless big-time musicians and their songs, including Queens of the Stone Age's "Burn the Witch," B.B. King's "Tired of Your Jive" (from ‘B.B. King and Friends'), Nickelback's "Rockstar," Hank Williams III's "Trashville.' In addition, he's performed in a ton of blockbuster supersessions, like when he joined Lou Reed and Jim Jarmusch to play with The Raconteurs at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, or when he played Skynyrd's "Free Bird" on ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien' alongside Ben Harper, Beck, Will Ferrell, and Conan himself.

  • Impressed !

by Ciro on 2/13/25Bardavon 1869 Opera House - PoughkeepsieRating: 4 out of 5

Pleasantly surprised as I heard some mixed reviews of past shows but Monday he provided a great mix of excellently executed and well sounding songs!!. A mini ZZ concert with some added surprises. Mike Flanigin and Chris Layton both icons in their own right rounded out the evening with their support of awesome Texas based musicianship and a bit of cheeky choreography.Billy is 75 and still rocking. I’d see him again!

  • Awesome Show!

by KMoe on 2/13/25Music Box at the Borgata - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Really happy to get to see Billy F. Gibbons and his compadres in the BFGs at a really nice venue. Such talent and experience! Loved every minute. As much as I love ZZ Top I doubt I'll ever get the chance to see them as up close as I did for this show without having to pay and arm and a leg. Thanks to Billy for bringing it closer. Wish all shows were at nice venues at a decent price. If these fellows give me the opportunity to see them again I will be there with bells on! Thanks guys!

The show was so great. The Bardavon is a beautiful arena for shows. As much as we prefer balcony seating, we’ll have to get downstairs tickets due to all the stairs. Absolute great time.

  • Wow what showman!

by Old Man on 2/13/25Bardavon 1869 Opera House - PoughkeepsieRating: 5 out of 5

I was blown away by the quality of the show, the professionalism, class act! Thank you Billy! "Old Man"I was probably the youngest grandfather there aside from my 9yr old son. I looked at the crowd and knew no one would stand up. Billy came out and played liked it was a packed stadium. The stage set was gorgeous and clean. The band was sharp dressed. Made me think of a Vegas show. The quality of the sound and musicianship was absolutely top notch. It was an honor to be there. Thank you Billy for doing this intimate tour! Not to be missed. We were not happy that we could not enjoy a drink in our seats. Bardavon, why is it ok to drink at fine theaters on Broadway but not here? You need to change that. We want to come more but not I'd we have to down drinks before entering.
