About

Billy Gardell works hard.  He has no choice.  He's from Pittsburgh.  Hard work is the honor code in Pittsburgh, and Gardell lives by it.

And now all this hard work is paying off for Billy, he is the star of the new CBS hit comedy MIKE & MOLLY (Mondays at 9:30PM) where he plays Officer Mike Biggs.  And on February 5, 2011, he stars in his own one hour stand-up Comedy Central special - BILLY GARDELL: HALFTIME.  A DVD of the special will be released on February 8th.

Billy isn't your average Hollywood success story.  No GQ genetics, no family in the business, no coattails to ride.  He took the long road to get here, stopping at every small town honky-tonk, military base, and comedy club along the way.  Anywhere he could find a live audience.

Billy started early in stand up and got good fast; headlining some clubs before he was legal at the door.  But that didn't stop him from being as big a hit at the bar as he was on stage.  After all, the kid was living his dream and following in the footsteps of his idol, Jackie Gleason.

As every comic quickly learns when they arrive in L.A., all those years of toiling in the clubs to become a great comic don't mean a thing in Hollywood.  You start working your way up all over again.  But before long, Billy have built quite impressive acting resume for himself with regular guest appearances on My Name is Earl, The Practice, Yes Dear, Monk, Judging Amy, Desperate Housewives as well as a co-starring role in the critically acclaimed FX series Lucky.  On the big screen, Billy made his film debut alongside Anthony Quinn and Sylvester Stallone in Avenging Angelo and afterwards scored a rather memorable scene with Billy Bob Thornton in the Cohen Brother's Bad Santa.

Billy's dedication to acting, along with continuing to tour as a stand up, have allowed him to grow consistently stronger in both arenas.  His stand up show is a powerhouse.  His grounded, down-to-earth point of view hits a strong chord with American audiences.  Stories about his rough childhood, wild adolescence, and new family life are executed with the skill of a master craftsman.

In his spare time, Billy enjoys spending time with his son and following the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Overall very funny guy without being crude. I was not that impressed with the opening act as he seemed to try too hard. I would see Billy Gardell again!

Very funny. Lots of humor that hits home with adults from all walks of life - kids, home life growing up, shopping, etc.. Very personable and caring celebrity that clearly appreciates the public responsible for his success.

Billy Gardell was really funny, just as good as I expected. I enjoyed his performance just as much as I enjoy watching him on Mike and Molly every week. He is a real people person and my husband and I could really appreciate his humor. Very glad we decided to go.

Billy is really funny- situations most of us can really relate to. We had a great time laughing out loud together. Wasnt too crazy about his buddy's opening act- a bit too crass for my taste.

Billy Gardell is probably the funniest, most polished comedian we've seen in a very long time. His hilarious insights are fresh and extremely clever. He makes fetching a beer for his Dad seem almost charming! We would have given him 5 stars, but the evening's opening act was just not up to par.

What a great night! The opening act (last name Green) was a great start. Billy finished things up with hilarity that made me laugh so hard that I lost my breath at a couple points.

  • Billy Gardell...HYSTERICAL!!!!!!

    by KMW2157 on 6/27/11Capitol Theatre - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The show started about 10 min late. The opening act was introduced by Billy Gardell which I thought was pretty cool. The opening act was Nick Griffin and he was very funny. I liked him a lot but he used way too many curse words for my liking. Some would have been ok but every other word seemed to be a curse word. When the opening act was done Billy came out almost right away. He was so cool and so funny! He is an extremely confident man and I liked that. Everything he talked about was every day normal stuff that we just take for granted. But with his antics and sarcasm made them all way too funny. I was in tears. For instance he talked about his father and when he as a kid wanted to go somewhere, his father would always say it was closed. He would say but there are people inside. His father would say they are cleaning up. Common everyday stuff but it was hysterical. I would go see him again and again. I really loved him. The show was different than his halftime show on Comedy Central. Don't miss him if you get the chance to see him.

My husband and friends laughed through the whole act. Billy added ten years to our lives. Its amazing how much Billy thinks and acts like us. The simply things in life are the best. Our faces hurt from smiling and laughing so hard. A true class act.....come on back Billy. This time to Philly.
