I have seen many, many plays, both on Broadway (NY) and around the nation. This is some of the finest theater I have seen. The depth of the play reminds me of West Side Story, although the byline is different. The set design was amazingly creative. It was interwoven, so cleverly, that the audience could see several things going on at one time...in different places, but at the same time and in the same space. AMAZING!! The actors were superb. I have nothing but raves for this show!! I left the play with a good feeling, but I was also in deep thought about all of the human pain in this world, and the ability to overcome one's circumstances.
An amazing show. Music was great, story was great, and overall the show was very impressive
I enjoyed everything about it. I took my 12 yr old daughter and was a little surprised about the language I try to read reviews before I go but did not see any mention about that. It was good for us to have dialogue about the picket lines, Margaret Thatcher and that time period in general. Also about following your dreams etc.. It was a 3hr show but did not seem like it the time flew by. I also enjoyed how the actors were all different ages.
This was the worse plays I have ever seen. I would tell people not to waste their money
I purchased the tickets for date night with my wife and unfortunately was on the last row of the orchestra section which was less than stellar. The show was really good, at least what I could see of it from the back of the house. Had I known that the venue was selected for the high number of seats rather than the viewers in mind I would have selected another event for date night. All in all the show was very good; however, I will make sure that my seats are much closer to the stage rather than the back of the building before seeing another show in Ovens.
excellent show....coming from that country i wondered how they would manage it for the American audience....my wife i both thought they did it very well.......they didn't 'thicken' the Geordie accent....it would be hard for most people to follow at the best of times. the music was great, as one would expect from Elton. the cast were superb in their characters and it flowed well. we thought it captured the story very well for a stage show.
Billy Elliot was pretty good. Perhaps I had my expectations too high. The talent was phenomenal - no argument there. However, I was not prepared for how mean the characters were to each other. I know they were trying to give the audience a feel for the tense situation that the miners were in - but Wow! they were sooo mean to each other. I was completely unprepared for the foul language. The cuss words coming out of those kids mouths was appalling! I was really put off by that. I also found it very hard to accept that they cut out the last scene of the movie where Billy's father gets to see him perform. That was one of the best scenes of the movie.
