Billy Elliot was spectacular. J.P. Viernes made his professional debut. He has a bright future ahead.
The show was fantastic! Those kids are so talented!
This was a wonderful evening at the theater. The performers were outstanding. I will be recommending this play to friends and family.
I purchased our Billy Elliot tickets for the 18th of March as a birthday gift for my husband. Little did we know that it was their opening night of previews. Having seen Billy Elliot the movie a few years back, I was hoping the live musical would stay true to the same story line. We were both blown away by the dancing, especially that of the evening's "Billy", played by Cesar Corrales. We were equally impressed with his poise during a staging malfunction that required him to re-start his "Angry" dance. All of the children in the show exhibited great stage presence beyond their years. The only fault of this performance is that it didn't last longer! There aren't enough stars to grade this winner.
Funny, touching, rousing, inspiring; Billy Elliot was all of these. The actors were strong as actors, singers and dancers. Tommy Batchelor and Keean Johnson were wonderful as Billy and Michael. Parents should note that like the movie, there is very strong language in the play and I would not recommend it for young children. I plan to go again!
This show was incredible! The music was fabulous and the dancing inspiring. Wow, what talent! Go see it!
Billy - the actor - was a phenominal dancer. While the entire cast performed as a top-notch troupe, I was especially impressed by the talent shown by Billy. This was a wonderful experience
The first 15 minutes or so were a little slow and the music was not as entertaining as expected. After those minutes, the play was amazing. I can't believe the talent of Tommy Batchelor. I loved the set and how lighting and shading was used to make statements. I was hoping for more rock music, but loved, loved, loved it.
I was blown away at Cesar and Gabriel performance.
Didn't live up to the hype at all. The music was average at best which was very disappointing. The show had its moments, but overall, it was unexciting. I would not want to see it again.
I took my wife, my 10 year old daughter Emma and her friend Sarah. Emma had seen the play on Broadway and loved it so much she wanted to see it in Chicago. We all enjoyed the play. All the actors were great especially Billy.
Excellent show- we couldn't have enjoyed it more! The performances were amazing- how talented these people are. This is a true experience to be enjoyed and savored!!! Go Again and Again!
Everything about this show is outstanding--but especially the dancing. To see the cast - especially Billy - perform live was a true gift. The play made me laugh, smile, and even brought a tear to my eye a time or two. Great entertainment - but if young children are in the audience, be warned about the dialogue. The play is true to the climate of the time, including profanity (spoken as part of the dialect). Don't miss it!
This musical was truly amazing. The dancing was incredible. It was a treat to see Cesar's premiere on stage. I would highly recommend this musical! Another smash hit for Sir Elton!
This show was above and beyond for performances. I'm an usher at a very large theatre and have seen my share of shows. This one tops the list for must see. Worth every penny and then some. Great job for Billys' first performance ever! Kudos to you young man.
The dancing was as great as everyone expected it to be. But I love musicals for the music first and foremost, and this score was unoriginal and redundant. The songs went on for far too long with uninteresting melodies and one verse worth of lyrics. The music was clearly a vehicle for the dancing, rather than a stand-alone aspect of the show. I expected far better of Elton John. However, the cast did a wonderful job with the score they had; the acting, dancing, and overall spirit of the show were a joy to watch. I am especially impressed with all of the child actors, particularly the lead characters. In summary: If you're looking for a show with a killer soundtrack, look elsewhere. But stay for the dancing.
Billy Elliott was fantastic! I have never NEVER seen a thirteen year old with so many dance skills! And the rest of the cast was amazing as well! The music was beautiul and I can't say enough about the dancing- at one point the simple act of two people dancig on stage had my heart pounding and my tears flowing. A funny, heartwarming, beautiful show that at the same time amazes you with it's technical feats.
The musical was fantastic! The music was catchy and the dancing and choreography was incrediable!!! The actor playing Billy did a wonderful job for his first time. There wasn't a dull moment! Even though it didn't affect us, there were a number of young children in the audience who we thought the language would be too strong for.
Fantastic dance, fantastic music, great sets (although there was a timeout for a computer glitch), but 20 minutes too long. The opening scenes are slow-going compared to the dance numbers. Nonetheless, a rousing performance which excited the entire audience.
