Cast was very good. Sets were terrific. Show was too long and there were too many swear words used as much of the audience was made up of younger children. Many of the accents were difficult to understand. Boy who played Billy was good but his dancing certainly not up to Broadway standards yet. Still a very good presentation.

  • Not what I expected

by CaliJen on 10/3/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

I love the movie! I am always breathless and on the edge of my seat to see Billy's beautiful swan leap in the air. In going to the play I was so excited to see that beautiful finale extended w/ some beautiful dancing. That didn't happen. it was thrown into the middle and though it was beautiful, I felt it left me wanting to see more.

  • Misrepresented the secondary messages.

Language was unnecessarily crude. Gender confusion was not liked and incidental. Dialogue was uninteresting; music and lyrics were mediocre.

  • Billy Elliot Light

by JosephRoy on 10/3/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 3 out of 5

Was just OK. For some reason they didn't end the show in the same way the Broadway Play and movie ended. Was disappointed in the ending.

Excellent performance! Always a great show to see. All cast were excellent but extra shout out to the amazing Billy Elliot himself. Amazing talent and fabulous skills in dance and acting for such a young age! Extra kudos for the great British/Geordie accent!! Well done!

This production was as painful as watching the movie The English Patient.

  • except for no melodies or songs you'd remember, ok

    by KB1717 on 10/2/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 2 out of 5

If this were the 1950-1975 this musical would have closed opening night. In today's age as long you fill the time slot with a show to see and sounds to hear, you don't need to have hit songs to be remembered. Such is case with this show. It's amusing and all, the kids are talented, some funny lines but you won't remember a song 10 minutes after walking out the door.

    by Larryf619 on 10/1/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

SDMT is nothing short of great at providing us with quality shows year in and year out. Billy Elliot is no exception and I hope that everyone who likes great dancing, singing and acting will come out and support this show! I especially like the kids in the show and their talent is not juvenile! My granddaughter and I have always enjoyed the productions which are comparable to Broadway shows! 5 stars for SDMT and for Billy Elliot!

  • Billy Elliot was fantastic!!

    by tamih66 on 9/28/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

The San Diego Musical Theatre & California Ballet performance of Billy Elliot was fantastic!! I consider myself a big Billy Elliot fan, having seen it in London 4 times and Broadway San Diego's version once, (and Elliott Hanna's DVD multiple times), before this version. This version was every bit as good as the London version, and Charlie Garton's performance was as touching as his talent was impressive. I am looking forward to seeing more of his performances in his sure-to-be successful career if he chooses it. All of the actors were great in their roles. This is a story that even after seeing it multiple times, is still moving and inspirational.

  • Billy Elliott was wonderful.

The musical is a must see for theater and dance enthusiasts.

  • Billy Elliot excellent show

    by Engeham2726 on 9/25/17Spreckels Theatre - San DiegoRating: 4 out of 5

The lead star who was only ten yeas old was amazing. Overall the show was very entertaining. I would have liked to have seen Billy Elliot as an adult given much more time to show his exquisite dancing ability. The foul language made me feel uncomfortable with children in the audience.

  • Billy Elliot was amazing!!

The entire production of Billy Elliot was amazing!! The lead "Billy" was brillant, what a talanted young man. The supporting cast, music, sets, costumes, and choreographing were all very very well done; we cannot stop talking about it. Spreckles Threatre has a quant nostalgic feeling with good acoustics making it a very enjoyable venue. Buy your tickets while you still can!!

  • "kudos" "kudos" "Kudos"

by stets on 6/12/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 5 out of 5

That's what Drury Lane's Production Company deserve for their magnificent presentation of Billy Elliot which closed with two shows on the 7th of June. It was the end of two months and 69 performances of pure theatrical magic and I would suggest any one who missed seeing this sleeper of a Tony Award winning show, missed something very special. Having viewed this musical from London, NYC, Toronto, Chicago, and a dozen Midwestern cities, in all the major venues, I'm confident in saying Drury Lane's presentation was not only equal to, but in many ways, measurably better than Broadway or London, as well as the International Tour. Special recognition has to go to Kyle Halford and Nicholas Dente, the two superiorly trained youngsters who played the role of Billy...the talent and energy which required the boys to be involved on the stage for the entire 2hrs 45min length of the show. It's an unprecedented role for boys their age, and they very easily matched or exceeded similar performers in the main theaters. I saw ten shows while it was at the Lane and only wish I could have seen more...however, living a couple hous away in North Central Indiana just precluded my being able to do that. Again, congratulations to the entire cast of this musical. It was a home run every time you were on stage. Unforgettable!!!

"Billy Elliott" is chock full fantastic dancing, human emotions ranging from fear & angst to pride & glowing joy, & terrific performances by top Chicago professional actors! Another Rachel Rockwell success!

  • Missed it..?

by stets on 6/11/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 5 out of 5

Such a shame if you talked yourself out of going to see "Billy Elliot the Musical" at Drury Lane during the past couple of months. Not sure I can add much more to the reviews I've already submitted for this show. Amongst the superlatives which describe "Billy," it was nothing less than spectacular, glorious, sad, invigorating, filled with wonderful dancing and musical numbers, all telling a story of a young boy's courage to "be himself" (a ballet dancer) despite severe and biased objections from family and peers. Kyle Halford and Nicholas Dante were the heart and sole of the story, both supremely talented and trained, and both experiencing the most demanding role ever performed by a youngster on any Broadway type stage. These two boys were nothing less than magnificent. Such a shame the show couldn't last forever at the Lane as I'm not sure much of the general public is knowledgable of what this Tony Award winner is about, or that it was even out there. Absolutely one of the top Broadway musicals of our lifetimes, notwithstanding, of all time.

  • Billy Elliot is a hit.

by Joninfinity on 6/7/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 5 out of 5

Spectacular show. Though no longer on Broadway or in the US tour, Billy Elliot has now gone into regional productions. Anyone who had doubts about these, don't. Spectacular show. The regionals are wonderfully done and they maintain all the intensity of the original story and the fantastic musical score of Elton John. Take your family and enjoy.

  • Very entertaining

by Rich1040 on 6/6/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the performance but found some of the language to be slightly offensive. The gay issue was handled quite well.

  • Billy Elliot is a Must-See!!!!

by Ronniej24 on 6/5/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 5 out of 5

All I can say is that this show was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! Funny, sad, highly entertaining all around. All the actors were super talented, especially the star of the show that night, Nicholas Dantes. Time is running out so go see it quick!!

  • Great Production of Billy Elliott

by flof on 6/3/15Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceRating: 5 out of 5

This was a fantastic production. It was so moving, filled with very talented actors/singers, and it captivated the entire nearly full house of patrons. The emotions of the striking coal miners was very real and brought tears to my eyes. I saw Billy Elliott a few years ago in downtown Chicago, but I enjoyed the Drury Lane production much more. Kudos to the entire cast, crew and producers.
