700 Sundays is the story of Billy Crystal's life. In ways, he is like nearly all of us. His parents loved him and they died (his father far to soon), he found a mate, they had children and he had a career. But unlike us, Billy's family played a major role in American culture. His uncle recorded Billy Holiday's "Strange Fruit" when no other record label would. Billy saw his first movie sitting on Billy Holiday's lap. His father produced jazz concerts for Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and other jazz legends. So in these ways his family and life are in no way like ours. But in the end, Billy tells us that what is really important in life, no matter who you are, is finding love, being in family, doing what you like to do and being kind. Billy is a mensch. I laughed a lot in the show, but I cried more. Go see it. It made me feel grateful for what I have in life, even though I've been knocked down a bit this Fall.
