    Big Fish...A musical

by SToland on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I love the film! I enjoyed the special "effects" of the performance, but I honestly feel that it would have been much better as a play, not a musical. The only other complaint I have is that Edward Bloom's character seems to be portrayed as kind of an ego filled person, rather than the humble person portrayed in the film. There were also so what I feel are "key pieces" of the film that were omitted in the performance. The child portraying Edward Bloom was fantastic!

    A must see

by WS00 on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I took my girlfriend to see Big Fish for her birthday this past weekend. Having not seen the movie I went into this performance not knowing the storyline and did not know what to expect. However, by the end of the performance there was not a single dry eye in the theater and everyone (myself included) was on their feet at the end. The actors (still the original broadway cast) do a phenomenal job of taking you through the wild and unbelievable adventure that is Edward Bloom's life and immersing you in his world. Whether you are a regular at the theater or going for the first time on a date or night on the town, I highly suggest to check this play out.

    Good play

by theweatherman51 on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The play was heartwarming and good for a newly written story. I did not see the movie, but I will watch that now. Somewhat of a Christmas Carol story with the flashbacks and the stories were entertaining.

Big Fish: A work in progress.

by techguy123 on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I am a huge fan of Andrew Lippa and Big Fish is by far, his best work to date. Having said that, the show has a lot of problems. The last 18 minutes of the show is spot on, but sadly it is hard to feel loss when you don't care about what is laid down before you. I would definitely recommend seeing it if you can’t get tickets to something else!

    Big Fish has potential

by Winndog on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Big Fish has incredible potential, however, it does need a little work. The beginning was awesome and the ending, from the time he is diagnosed with Cancer through the end was very good, however, you lost us in the middle. It just needs something to hold our attention other than just another story. The voices were a little on the weak side, except for Kate, but the actors did a very credible job.

    Big Fish was phenomenal!

by itsKellyNYC on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I absolutely loved the how. The projections were amazing as well as the actors. I have never cried so much in the theatre, or film. When I wasn't crying from sadness I was tearing from happiness or smiling or laughing. I would really highly recommend this production!

Don't Miss Big Fish while it is in Chicago

by MarineTodd on 4/29/13Ford Oriental Theatre - Chocago

This show was fantastic in every way and far exceeded my expectations. I would expect this to be a huge hit once in hits Broadway. The entire cast was awesome, the music was great, and the scenery and staging of the production kept every thing moving along nicely. This is a great play - See it before it leaves Chicago and heads to Broadway.

    BIG FISH was INCREDIBLE!

by ConcertGrammy on 4/29/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

We sat in awe of the stage sets combined with the graphics used to present this musical. The talented actors were hands down the top of the class performers and we have never enjoyed a production as much as we did this one! Warning - the graphics include an apron section of the stage so do not choose seats along the rail of the balcony as you will not be able to see down low enough to enjoy that portion without straining your backs all night.... we learned a lesson on that one. If you have a chance --- take the kids too, great message of love and very entertaining!!

Big Fish was absolutely amazing! For a pre-broadway show, you would have thought we were watching it live in New York. Norbert Leo Butz KILLED it as Edward Bloom! I was mesmerized the entire show and wish I could see it again. Go see it, you will not regret it!

Big Fish Movie Fan = Big Fish Musical Fan

by karianne84 on 4/28/13Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I have been in love with the movie for the past ten years and it was THRILLING to see the pre-Broadway run of Big Fish. I came in from out of town just to experience it. While, like most pre-Broadway runs, there are still some issues to work out, the overall show was stunningly beautiful. Norbert Leo Butz deserves his 3rd Tony for this role and Kate Baldwin truly shines along side him. While some of the movie is left out, they did a great job cramming as much as they could into this spectacle of a show. Well, well done.
