About

BETTER THAN EZRA IN CONCERT:

New Orleans' hometown heroes Better Than Ezra dominated '90s airwaves with a string of ubiquitous, fuzzed-out alt-rock hits like "Good" and "Desperately Wanting." The band's poppy, sing-along anthems came to define the sound of a generation, making each live show something of a reunion for their devoted fans. The elation was palpable at their 2013 shows, and with a new album due out in summer 2014, Better than Ezra will be delivering bigger than ever on their 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed by four Louisiana State University students in the late '80s, Better Than Ezra cut its teeth performing at fraternities and house parties before going on to generate buzz with their cassette-only demos. After self-releasing 1993's Deluxe, the band landed a deal with Elektra Records, who reissued the album in 1995. The record was an overnight sensation upon its re-release, spawning hits like "Good" and "Rosealia" and going on to achieve platinum certification from the RIAA. Five more albums of infectious alt-rock would follow, setting the stage for a highly anticipated new album in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Great show! Ezra never disappoints! They are amazingly talented and have fun performing so that makes it so great!"

"Great show! Perfect blend of old and new, humor and covers...crowd ranged from early 20s to 50s and all seemed to have a great time!"

"BTE does such a fantastic job of providing a unique show... They always have new musicians backing up or guests who make each show unforgettable in its own way."

    Awesome show!

by JoeK on 7/14/09The Norva - Norfolk

As usual, Better Than Ezra was awesome! I had never heard of 16 Frames but bought their CD before leaving the venue because I liked them that much. I will say that their sound system sounded like crap though. However, BTE was on point and mixed some old with some new and delivered their usual kick ass show!

    Tyrone Wells saved the night!!

by Kentodd on 7/14/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Marianne Keith started the show and she was very good, enjoyed her music. Tyrone Wells then took the stage. He was AMAZING! I was not familiar with him or his music prior to getting the tickets for the show. Once I knew he was opening for BTE I bought his music. I wanted to hear if this guy would compliment BTE or be a wet blanket. Once I heard his music I knew it was going to be a rockin' show. Great choice BTE!! Tyrone Wells' performance surpassed my expectations. His music comes from his soul and is very moving. Excellent choice! Now what can I say about BTE?! Our guys! Gotta love 'em even with this "chatty" performance. They have yet to let me down when it comes to their music and this new CD continues the run. I found they were awkward in the very beginning of the show and maybe why a little chatty?! Who knows?! For as long as I've been attending their shows over the years, this was the only one I would say wasn't 100%. It was like they were off their game. Was it because this was the first show of the tour?! Trying to get their feel for the response of the new music from their fans?! It will remain a mystery. BTE's ability to deliver the sound of their music fantastically remains untarnished!

    BTE was fab!

by CarrieG on 7/13/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

The Better Than Ezra CD release party was great. The new drummer is fantastic and fits right in with the group. The music was, as always, great. Some old standards mixed in with the new stuff.

    Another Great BTE Show!

    by Michelle1977 on 7/13/09The National - Richmond

This was one of those shows that reminded me why I love going to see Better Than Ezra! They sounded AWESOME!! The new music is great and it's always good to hear the old stuff too! The venue wasn't as packed as it should have been but that's just Richmond. Sometimes the people here are trying to be too hip for their own good. :( Regardless of that, BTE played for a little ove an hour and a half and the people who came out to the show had a good time. It was a great crowd. If you have the chance to see BTE on this tour you should go. Paper Empire is a great album but the songsa re even better live! You won't be disappointed! the National is an amazing venue! If you get a chance to see a show there GO! You won't regret it!

    BTE is the BEST!

by Rockrmom on 7/13/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

I loved the Better Than Ezra CD-release party. I've seen them several times, and always enjoy the music and the interaction with the audience. I am a big fan of their new CD and think that Michael Jerome is a fine addition to the band. I look forward to seeing them again, soon!

BTE in NO - nothing better!

by BigToxie on 7/13/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Nothing like seing BTE in their home town of New Orleans. Great that they finally released a new cd and hearing it live puts all the songs in a different category. The sounds and crowd at the HOB New Orleans adds even more to the event. Great time and trip to the Big Easy!

Awesome night at the HOB with Better Than Ezra

by BrianW on 7/13/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

I have seen BTE on a number of occasions and this show was up there with the best of them. The mixture of perennial favorites and new (soon to be favorite) songs was excellent. Michael Jerome, who replaced Travis McNabb on the drums, is a natural fit with Tom, Kevin and rarely mention James. If one of their concerts cannot get you up and excited then I doubt any other artist can do it.

    A Band to See Live

by Chuchaqui on 7/13/09The National - Richmond

Some bands turn out great albums but their lack of personality and stage presence gives no justification for forking over $30 for a ticket to see them regurgitate what they already recorded, note for note. Better Than Ezra is not one of those bands. Their performance was full of impromptu and creative momentary lapses of reason. I loved their onstage banter and dialogue. All the hits were played on top of some Who covers and I think that they even tried to cover a hit from the Bangles (not sure, they quickly aborted after a few bars were played in the key of A). I got a personally signed poster from them and a sincere thanks from all band mates regarding my merchandise purchases and "thumbs-up" approval of their performance. They are a "stand-up" group of guys that sure know how to play live...

    BTE rocked The National

by uncbte on 7/13/09The National - Richmond

Even after all these years, Better Than Ezra can still pack a venue and put on an unforgettable performance. They are easily one of the most underrated bands in rock music today. I certainly hope they come back to The National soon!

As always, the guys looked like they were having fun on stage. Certainly had fun in the bar with them after the show. Closed the place down.

Better Than Ezra is THE best band to see live!!!

by chelebelle on 7/13/09The Norva - Norfolk

I've been going to Better Than Ezra shows since back to 95, and I never walk away disappointed. Hands down, they are the best band to see live. The guys are always so charismatic and funny when interacting with each other or with us in the crowd. The new drummer was great; he fit in great with Tom & Kevin. They played only a few songs from the new album, playing alot of stuff from prior albums, as well as, a couple cover tunes - which they rocked of course! I SO wish radio would wake up to how good these guys are. SO many people are missing out on this band - it's a shame; however with that being said, I relish in the intimate venues I've see them in. I love being with a smaller group of peeps, who I know cherish and are as devoted to BTE as much as I am and can sing every word to every song. Kevin & Tom even mentioned they saw familiar faces the other night - we just keep coming back again again every time they come to the Tidewater area. They are much loved here! If BTE comes to your area, GO SEE THEM! You WILL NOT be disappointed. Oh, and for cry'n out loud, go BUY their CD's!!!

12 Frames and Better than Ezra were awesome!!!

by Tamster on 7/13/09The Norva - Norfolk

This was amazing show. I love the Norva anyway but both bands sounded great. My friend and I had an awesome, unforgettable time there. We can't wait to go to more concerts this summer. This was one to remember forever. Both bands kicked ass:)

Better Than Ezra delivered the goods

by ChuckRD on 7/13/09The Norva - Norfolk

My first time seeing the band....was def impressed ! Kevin & Co were most-entertaining, and their show is a "Must See." They rocked the house (almost 1,500 in attendance). They mixed -in awesome covers : Cheap Trick's "Surrender", Pete Townsend's' "Let My Love Open The Door", The Who's "Pinball Wizard", Lady Gaga's "My Poker-Face"....VERY ECLECTIC!! Opening act 16 Frames will satisfy as well..very promising up-and-comers !
