All the groups did a nice job, An enjoyable night. Would see see them again.
Second time seeing Kenny Vance in this venue. Overall quality of the show was good. The nostalgia acts-Jimmy Charles, Fireflies, Coasters and I don’t remember the ame of the 4th performer. With the exception of the Coasters, the other acts were ok at best. The Coasters were great. The first part of the show with these groups were simply a warm up for Kenny Vance. The promoter gave regular plugs for his merchandise. The second half of the show with Kenny Vance was great. He incorporated his limitations into his song selection. The songs were great and his son has a great voice. Would see Kenny over and over again. Not so with the others (except the Coasters). Old crowd in attendance with many bothersome cell phone videos being taken,
Amazing show. Every act was at their best. As usual Kenny Vance was extraordinary. His son Lad is every bit the performer his dad is and Jimmy Bence is always the consummate showman. Can’t wait for next year!
admit this started off rocky - something went wrong with Reunion - they were off key and one of the backround singers was louder than the lead singer so you couldn't hear the lead singer! Thankfully the rest of the show was amazing - especially The Crests, whose new lead singer is BEYOND FABULOUS!! And, what can I say? Kenny Vance? Love him - always have and always will!! His son is a great addition to the group - the duet with his father - heard it last year and again this year and would love to hear it every year!!!
We go every year to the DooWopp shows L❤️VE Kenny Vance and the Planatones
the show was amazing Kenny Vance was the whole show and everyone was waiting for him to entertain, all his fans love him.
Most of the groups were excellent. Particularly Kenny Vance and the Capris. The opening act,Reunion, was off key and hard to listen to. Finally the sound system was temperamental all night providing us with screeching and feedback. Other times the mikes just did not work.
Lars Enterprises goes beyond all others to deliver the top Doo Wop groups at each and every performance. They have groups the complement each other and give a variety of music that amplifies the era. The Capris, with there new lead singer, Michael, has taken the Capris to a new level and a must see for ALL. Kenny Vance and the Planotones continues to be the "crowd's favorite". There performance at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale was "SPOT ON". Having Ladd, Kenny's son, Tony back on drums, Jimmy the "showman" and Johnny, the musical director and on guitar; was a show stopper and more. Wow....What a Night!!
Not only great songs and performers. However, the only disappointment was the first group who sang arcapella. One of the singers was out of tune and not harmonizing with the group There were 4 of them. However when they came back near the end of the show to sing with one of the main performers there were only three. Those three were harmonizing perfectly and that fourth singer was not with them. It was such a great night we were singing along with each performer. Our music was the best of all. My wife and I were members of the 50's teenagers that enjoyed the music of our times so much. Looking forward to seeing it again, God willing, next year.
Nice theater, terrible sound system. Loved the lineup, especially Kenny, the Capris, Jimmy Clanton etc.... So happy to see Kenny VANCE after his long illness. Welcome back and hopefully be there next February 8, 2020!
The microphones didn’t work for some of the acts. Problem solved at once. You think Parker Playhouse would have been better prepared. Not the fault of the entertainment.
The first 2 acts should have stayed at home in their rocking chair The Doves were great. The big guy had an amazing voice. Young man was also very good Kenny Vance was very good as usual He was the reason I went
The concert was a time machine, bringing us back to our youth and joyful times, if only for a few hours. Most of the audience knew all the lyrics and delighted in singing along. Only criticism was the erratic sound system. The acts were all good, blending the sounds of the original and the outstanding newer group members. Especially enjoyed the Capris, the personable Jimmy Gallagher, and , of course, Kenny Vance.
Great show. Needed sound checks. Mic volumes all over the place. At times some mics didn’t work. High pitch hum the entire time Kenny Vance performed. The performers and audience deserved much better.
The entire show was fabulous very entertaining great Harmony great lead voices I truly enjoyed it. All the groups sounded great strong Kenny Vance as usual funny the place was packed. I took my middle daughter age 22 she had a great time.
I had the pleasure of attending a Doo Wop Concert at the Parker Playhouse. The headliner was Kenny Vance and the Planotones. The other acts were the Dubs, Jimmy Clanton, Jimmy Gallagher (former lead singer of the Passions), the Capris, Kid Kyle and the Reunion, an Acapella group. I closed my eyes and I drifted back to the street corners, dances and the fun times on the LES of Manhattan in the late 50s and early 60s. No surprise I remembered the lyrics, began singing along and recalling the memories of a different era, one I am glad to have been a part of. Sometimes you can go home again. I am glad I had the opportunity and that I took advantage of it. The Parker Playhouse has a seating capacity of almost 1,200, yet it still provides an atmosphere of intimacy with the performers, there is plenty of space between the rows of seats, and your line of vision to the stage is clear, parking is free and the staff is professional and customer oriented.
I really have nothing but good things to say about the groups that sang, where I sat, or how tickmaster handled everything being a first time users. However, I was very disappointed in sound first half of the show, couldn't hear clearly what they were saying or singing, especially back-up singers. I hate to be critical having been involved with many sound checks having a son-in-law whose an entertainer, but something was definitely not right first half of the show, however, adjustments were made and sound for last two groups and ending was awesome. Sorry to be critical, I know sound makes a show, and for my group there, first half sound was disappointing.
The Best of Doo Wop show in Baltimore MD on 4/30/2011 was well worth the price. The Meyerhoff Symphonic Center is an excellent venue. All of the performers truly seemed to be enjoying themselves during their performances. I particularly enjoyed Jay and the Americans being substituted for one of the orginally advertised groups. Their joint effort with Charlie Thomas and Drifters on "This Magic Moment" was in fact a magic moment with both groups sharing the song between them. While the Meyerhoff offers excellant acoustics and sight lines I found the access to the Terrace seating strange. After riding an elevator up to the Terrace level we have to walk down 5 or 6 flights of stairs to get to the level of the "A" section where our seats were located. I saw nothing on the center's website when I was selecting tickets that descending stairs would be required to reach our seats.
Concert was great, loved everyone who performed!! Hopefully next year they will have just as great as a line-up, I didn't recognize anyone that they announced that would be performing next year though.
It was great to see and hear all the groups and music from my youth at this concert. The Platters were my favorite group through high school, college and beyond. In fact, for many years, "My Prayer" was my favorite song of all time. It eventurally got pushed to second place. The only negative aspect of the concert was problems with the sound system. Each time a different group started, you couldn't hear them until the mikes got adjusted for them.
