About

BEIRUT IN CONCERT:

Beirut combines orchestral pop with world music to create intriguingly complex songs that are also infectiously catchy. Bandleader Zach Condon helms everything from vocals to flugelhorn to bring a uniquely diverse sonic palette into each sugary-sweet pop confection. In concert he surrounds himself with top-notch musicians, who infuse the band's indie rock sounds with eclectic folk instrumentation. By incorporating so many different influences, Beirut makes their concerts feel like a globe-trotting adventure for ticket buyers, who can’t help but sing along to familiar favorites like “Elephant Gun” and “East Harlem”.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Zach Condon was born in Albuquerque, NM in 1986 and raised predominantly in neighboring Santa Fe. Though his experience in jazz band taught him how to play trumpet and helped him gain an appreciation for complex musical expression, Condon dropped out of high school at 17. The budding prodigy was exposed to the diverse musical traditions of Europe on a soul-searching trip abroad, and he immediately began incorporating a wide range of international styles into his home recordings. Adopting the moniker Beirut, he released a collection of demos as his first full-length album Gulag Orkestar in 2006. The record became a surprise hit following the viral success of the music video “Elephant Gun”, leading Condon to put together a live band for an impromptu tour. The lineup stuck, and the group’s 2011 album The Rip Tide converted an entirely new segment of fans when the single “East Harlem” was featured on Pitchfork’s Best New Tracks. After a period of intense personal issues, Condon thrilled fans in 2015 with the announcement of Beirut’s fifth album No No No. As they continue to tour the world, Beirut seems destined to absorb the musical influences of every place they visit, incorporating each new sound into their signature chamber pop masterpieces.

  • Understood them more seeing them in person

by meintheatl on 4/10/16Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoyed the first half. Their music is a bit circus like and different and I enjoyed seeing them in person. Although I was enjoying it, once I went to get a drink and returned, I was less enchanted. It seemed to get a little boring. With their music, I think they could have had a little more energy.

  • Brass Glory

    by Coco78 on 4/9/16Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The band was amazing! I love small venues, like the Buckhead Theatre. The sound wasn't as clear as I would have liked, but I was able to get a good view of Beruit in all their brass glory!

  • Had a great time!

    by hanburger1 on 4/9/16Buckhead Theatre - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first time seeing Beirut live. The Buckhead Theater was packed, so it was a good thing my friends and I got in early because we are so short! Even from the third row back, it was sometimes difficult to see. Zach was even better live than on his albums, and I especially enjoyed hearing the slight changes in musical style that he had added in.

  • Beirut is incredible!

I was blown away. Can't wait to see these guys again. Truly enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

Beirut put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Amazing musicians and a really well thought out set list.

Beirut was awesome as expected. Even though the acoustics in this place were horrible, they still managed to put on a great show.

  • Miss the opener

Beirut was incredible. The opener, not so much. I don't know why they chose her. It's a real snoozefest.

I though Zach and the band did a fantastic job! The venue is amazing (my 3rd time there) and the sound was really high quality! Loved it.

  • Best night of the year :]

    by 10171819 on 10/13/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of Beirut since 2012 and for the past three years I've been dying to see them. Now that I go to school at SFSU, I had the chance to see them at UC Berkeley Greek Theatre and it was the perfect night. They sounded so much better live and hearing Elephant Gun, Postcards from Italy, and the Gulag Orkestar at this amazing venue made it all the better. Great venue and an amazing Saturday night :]

  • Would like to say better

    by Chaddiholic on 10/13/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 3 out of 5

Almost didnt make the show, but aftr spendin $200 was still determined to get there evn with an extra tic, and after getting in and see show, could understand why was able to get rid of it. Like the earier stuff, albums.., havnt heard th new one so was a bit (very) disapointed didnt play much older stuff n only for about an hr n a half (1.5). As was the same for Alice in Chains..., and Jane's Addicrion a couple yrs ago..!Not going to $50 shows anymore..! Wondered why i could stil easily get tix three days before the show.., now i know.. Lighting sucked, stage peformance, whole visual! If you closed your eyes n listened, sure music composure always good, its Beirut! Sound was good, but way different than i was expecting from album's sound and tones. But, also as friend had said, all songs were repetitive, not much diversity.. And i feel they have a bit more, if the play a wider range off other albums might help. More up beat and not so drab thru the whole thing. Again, like my friend said, they dont bring it! I said, its Beirut, but yes, they have more entertaining stuff in my opinion..

  • Best concert in a while

Great live performance. Such a fun but calming energy from the band. The venue was perfect for this show. Everyone was so relaxed.

  • Love Beirut!

    by froufrou29 on 10/13/15Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

The event was amazing! I love this band and it was my second time seeing them. It was my first time at the Greek Theatre since the '70s and it was just as good as I remember - perfect venue for warm, starry night. My only complaint is that I could have listened to Beirut for twice as long!

  • Wonderful Show

I've never seen Beirut live before, but now after this show I definitely HAVE to again. They're so nice and thank the crowd after every song. They generously played an encore. Just really great people playing really great music.

Beirut was incredible. All the instruments sounded perfectly balanced and very impactful. They played multiple encores and are such talented musicians. I haven't been able to stop listening to their new album and old favorites since the show!
