Foster the People and Big Gigantic blew me away. If you've never seen them live, make sure you do it before you die.
The venue was beautiful next to the Mississippi River. The flow of the festival grounds is nice, being along one street. All stages seemed like they were the only stages because the layout/orientation made sure the music wasn't overlapping or fighting to be heard. This was my first visit to Memphis and to Beale St. and it has had a positive affect on me. What a great start to my Summer! Thank you Beale Street!!
AMAZING! PARTY HARD! CONDO IS BOOKED FOR NEXT YEAR!
Friday nite was exceptional. the only drawback was trying to figure how to see everyone that was scheduled to play that night without missing other playing at the same time. i was absolutely satisfied with all the groups that I saw that night. anyone who has never been to Memphis in May, it is a must do to put on ones bucket list. Great music, food and atmosphere for all types of music lovers! i also attended Saturday night and just as Friday night all the groups that were scheduled that we viewed delivered their best! it is always a pleasure to go to memphis in may, rain or shine. Security, restrooms, food, first aid are always available and it is a safe environment to groove to your favorite groups!!
Friday night was the best of all 3 although I will say that Aevenged and String Cheese were very good as well. The only bad thing is that there were so many great artists playing at the same time. You really have a hard time saying let's leave here and go two stages over to catch this person. I think the Orion stage should have been in the middle of Bud Light and FedEx stages because the line up off the chain over there. Any delay comming on stage made it hard to catch multiple bands. But I will say everyone was cool and the bands kicked butt. Food was good and beer was five bucks so not that bad. Cheaper than a ball game.
it was very very crowded but the people was friendly and the walk to the stage felt like a hike lol but overall it was fun
The bands I saw on Sunday were awesome. Avenged Sevenfold always puts on a great show and Seether was amazing. I'm not an Anthrax fan but their performance was unforgettable, and I was very pleasantly surprised with Black Stone Cherry and Surrender the Fall (I didn't really listen to them before, but definitely do now). Other than the heat and the standing for 8 hours, it was a complete blast!!!
Great music, well organized, a variety of food options! It was actually sunny this year without a drop of rain! Perfect! I would recommend carpooling due to parking being jacked up for the weekend to $15 a night as opposed to the general $5. They could use some more restrooms due to long lines and just outside the event are protestors who kind of dampen the mood. Other than this, it's a really fun event with lots of little shops, food including healthy options and the stages are the perfect distance apart for not too much walking yet far enough as to not interrupt the other bands.
The best part was the weather. The line-up was improved from last year but i did not like the way it was grouped. All heavy Metal on Sunday./ Hip--Hop on Friday. Turned out Saturday was the only day I would have attended had I not bought my tix in advance. In will wait until line-up is announced in the future. Thought Alabama Shakes was disappointing. They only have one hit and they did not sing it. Wish I woulda came home Saturday night.
I only rated Beale St. Music Fest what I did because I'm into rock music and there just wasn't enough rock musicians scheduled to play for me. There was too many local and unknowns scheduled for me to want to attend again. I'll trade this weekend for a different one next year. I had a good time, it was very hot, and the 3 main stages that were there, only 2 which was the Orion which is the one the rock performers played. The food vendors were good. The one place that I looked for all weekend was a Tai food place that was on the total opposite side of the than the line of other food vendors. I just happened upon it. Bummed me out a bit, by the time I located it, I had already eaten at some noodle place...Overall, it was good, not great. Wish there were more rock band that performed.
The weather was PERFECT for some blues on the river. His guitar skills and the way he handles a crowd was right on time. Please invite him again.
The bands were great, but the event staff was far from professional. There was apparently a lack of communication among them and it was very frustrating. I understand they had to deal with thousands of people and were in a hurry, but it seemed like no one sat them down and explained any of the rules to them. With all of the trouble I had from staff, I am skeptical about returning next year.
Great lineup for Sunday. Bands played old songs, new songs and their versions of other bands songs. Awesome day!
The Saturday music line-up was awesome. Every act was truly awesome. Kid Rock was unforgettable!
Went to MiM jspecifically for Kid a Rock! Left a huge fan of all of Memphis in May and will be returning!
I have been thoroughly impressed with Music Fest each time I have gone. This year was no exception. Some amazing bands and the weather was perfect! We only went on Saturday and saw some amazing talents. Can't wait to go again soon!
Always an amazing time, this was our sixth year in a row and we have the hotel booked for next year. But we felt the lineup was weak this year. Would love to see more current hard rock bands and more classics like Earth Wind and FIre. Joan Jett was great this year.
Always enjoy this festival! Beale Street consistently gets a great, diverse line-up of acts and is a great value for the money. Not overly crowded and the festival goers are pretty friendly.
My husband and I attended the 2014 Beale Street Music Festival. This was our first time. We live in Chicago, so we've been to the Taste of Chicago many times. I think that the Beale Street Music Fest far exceeded the Taste. Even though there was a fee, the number and variety of acts made it worth it. The Taste is free, but it's become less about major music acts and more about just the food. As a music lover, I'd rather pay a fee and have good music. With a music festival, you get a energy and involved happy people. (Some a little too happy.) The Beale Street festival provided all of that. The people watching was a fun as the music. I only saw one incident of trouble. Kudos to Memphis City Police for their major presence. . The cost was very reasonable and the proximity to the action of downtown Memphis was great. I loved the Beale Street Music Fest and will definitely go again!
