I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at the festival. I was expecting a long terrible line getting in and even worse for beer and restrooms. They do a great job making the lines manageable and give you plenty a space between stages. The music was very good and fortunately the bands didn't compete with each other in terms of volume and drowning out the other stages. There is such a wide variety of music that everyone can find their niche and I would recommend everyone going at least once. A little piece of advice, if it has rained in the preceding week, wear boots you don't mind getting muddy.

    Flaming Lips were outstanding!

by squarepeg on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

What a great night! Very little mud and no rain, people mostly having fun and looking out for each others' good time, good food and amazing music! We especially enjoyed Manchester Orchestra, Cake and The Flaming Lips, who put on such a beautiful, multi-sensory show that inspired everyone around. Rockin' experience, all around!

    Slim Magic was the best.

by beequeen22 on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

Everything was great except for Sunday when the storms moved in and we had to leave without going to the festival. We lost $30.00. We were warned by Memphis folks that people lose money each year because of rain, but I didn't listen. Next year, I encourage everyone not to get the special at ticketmaster, just buy at the gate. You never know when the rain will come into Memphis.....

    Friday Night Beale Street

by dlogqmhp on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

From what I saw here are my rankings. #1 - MGMT, they just BROUGHT IT!. #2 - Cage, Matty is a madman!. #3 The Lips - Wayne was hoarse, the set was short, but The Lips are the Lips and they ALWAYS rule... I cannot wait until The Soft Bulletin in July, in Chicago!

This is what music is all about

by JoeyG on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

My first Beale Street Music Festival and I was amazed at the energy and raw love of music shared by everyone. The event is managed like a science. Everything has been thought out, so no surprises, plenty of security and lots to experience. Various stages keeps everyone entertained, plenty of food keeps everyone happy. I would only want more drink options (various beer selections and a greater liquor assortment for the varying tastes of people). However, it all comes down to music and the Beale Street Music Festival is a place where you'll find music you may never have thought you'd enjoy or reconnect with an old legend. Open your ears to a newly discovered band or open your mind to a yet to be discovered starving artist. This may be my first experience but it will not be my last. I can't wait for next year!

    Great Band's lousy crowd

by megabamafan on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

The bands were great!!! The crowd's were rude, inconsiderate, selfish, jerks. The only way to keep a spot in front of a band was to fight for it. People were puking, passing out, smoking dope, pushing, shoving, and all sort of other lude behavior. But, the band's were Great!!!

Top lineup at Beale Street Music Fest!

by geenab on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

I spent the entire afternoon and evening at the Beale Street Music Festival. The lineup on Friday night was fantastic, the weather was great and the venue was beautiful. Usually at a music festival there are just a few bands I really want to see, but Friday night I had to make some tough choices and all the choices were great. Manchester Orchestra, Cake, Cage the Elephant, MGMT and the Flaming Lips were all fabulous shows. The sound was good, and the stages were well-positioned so that there was no interference between the different stages. Overall, the Flaming Lips were totally worth the hype and the wait. The show was spectacular. As was MGMT, who kept giving the crowd the basketball scored during their set. A fantastic evening, and an incredible bargain.

Beale Street Music Fest is definitely worth it

by grimly on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

If you get a 3 day pass and only end up going 2 of the days it still worth your while. It doesn't matter who you are because there will always be a type of music that you enjoy. The genres have a very wide range since so many people play. Even if you paid near $100 for the 3 day pass, music is offered almost half the entire day. There are tons of people there (maybe 40k?) but even so you will be able to see anyone you want. Granted it rains almost every music fest, this year had clear skies for almost all of friday and saturday. Sunday rained though. It doesn't matter though because they will play through rain. Overall this is a festival that shouldn't be passed up. The only problem you might encounter is not being able to see everyone you want because there will be at least 3 bands playing at the same time on each stage (3 in total) and then normally 1 or 2 tents with other artists.

Not enough bathrooms for the amount of people that are there... Too long of lines to get drinks, need more beer stands... Overall, good time

We had a grate time. The music and artists were top notch. Was a little more pricey than Chattanooga's Riverbend and not managed as well but would go back and recommend you go too.

MGMT & Flaming Lips was ace

by trigirl87 on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

Great effects - balloons, confetti, Wayne Coyne's poetry about the river and power - Wayne's infectious energy and songs with value. MGMT reminds me that Memphis is the soul of music with so much to offer the world. Thank you Andrew and band for the passion and commitment to your sound.

    Saturday

by Dande7653 on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

Weather was perfect. The line ups were awesome. Music Awesome!! Blind MS Morris with his own stage was good. Not many true old blues players left. Range of food and beverages were good. Even Jerry Lee Lewis out did himself. I didn't see many passed out and/or throwing up - that is always nice. Crowds were nice and considerate.

    Overall an amazing show

by canes87 on 5/1/11Tom Lee Park - Memphis

My favorite band on Friday was Manchester Orchestra (who opened), so I'm biased in my opinion that they sounded the best :P But, Cage the Elephant, MGMT, and of course STP were absolutely crazy. Cage put on just as awesome of a show as I expected, along with MGMT and STP. Went over to Beale St. after STP's set and had a blast there also. So glad it didn't rain and SO glad I was able to go this year. -Cody
