About

Throughout the last fifteen years, Beach Fossils have steadily earned their stature as one of the most definitive and enduring bands of the 2010s New York underground, consistently reaching new listeners as their sound has grown from the DIY solo project of Dustin Payseur to an influential four-piece dream pop band, self-produced and self-released.

Bunny (2023) continues the stunning evolution of Beach Fossils' sound, pulling elements from the jangly melancholy of the self-titled debut Beach Fossils (2010) and What a Pleasure (2011), the gritty, post-punk inspired tracks from Clash the Truth (2013), and the lush arrangements of Somersault (2017). Throughout, Payseur is joined by core band members Tommy Davidson (guitar), Jack Doyle Smith (bass), and Anton Hochheim (drums).

Through tone and mood, Beach Fossils communicate a coming-of-age narrative of self-discovery. Payseur's slice-of-life lyrics reflect on depression, love, adventure, loss, mistakes, New York City, friendships coming and going -- a mélange of granular pieces in the process of continuing to find yourself.

    In the end…

by Lj on 11/23/23Citizens House of Blues Boston - Boston

The opening band was pure garbage. I almost didn’t make it to see Beach Fossils because Turnover was so bad. On the last song they performed, guitarist literally dragged his live guitar-strings down - across the stage like something out of a bad movie. Then a 180 as Beach Fossils came out and played beautifully.

    Oozing Gratefulness

by ciderqueen on 11/20/23Uptown Theater Minneapolis - Minneapolis

this was my first time seeing beach fossils and they were so great! they played songs from their newest album bunny but also made sure to include songs from their older albums (my favorite is somersault). they just kept repeating how thankful they were that the crowd was out for a tuesday evening for them, and they seemed very genuine about it. they were huge supporters of the smaller opening acts and overall they seemed genuinely grateful to be there on stage. they encouraged dancing and sweating and the crowd was loving it! i hadn't watched videos of their performances in the past so i'm not sure what they usually do, but i think the venue was pumping out the smoke like CRAZY, so sometimes i could not even see the band members on stage because the smoke was so thick/the lighting was hitting it in a way where I couldn't see a damn thing lol. the show was still great despite this.

    Ethereal and Breathtaking

by Wednesday on 11/4/23The Van Buren - Phoenix

The spooky moments were freaking awesome. It just kinda sucks that the VB closes so soon, it made all the talents feel like their shows were too short. The lights turning on was a good dissuasion to a "ONE MORE SONG"chant, because me and all my friends definitely wanted more. Very happy to have discovered Turnover because of the lineup. INCREDIBLE MUSIC from everyone <3

It was a Halloween show and the bands encouraged everyone prior to the show to bring their costumes. Set list was great from all bands and the crowd engagement was fun.

    Gaslighting event

by Jon on 1/31/23Bowery Ballroom - New York

I bought these tickets in the beginning of January because it showed up on the artist spotify. There was no mention that the night was going to be a DJ playing their music. Not the actual band. This event was false advertising.

    Too down

by Piri on 11/24/21The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Went to see the Red Pears 🍐. Had such a good time . Mosh pits are not too bad , even if you stumble in there people around you pay attention and are quick to lend a hand to pick you right back up. They sound just like the streamed music! Sound was awesome ! Thanks for a good experience! I had to leave right after but I wish I stayed to see if I could get a quick flick with them .

    Phenomenal

by N.T. on 11/24/21The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Absolutely amazing, I danced all night! Wild nothing kills it every show, Jack Tatum is a musical GOD! How they’re not bigger, I’ll never know. They played for a long time and both wild nothing and beach fossils have such amazing chemistry. They even talked about their history and played together, just so much fun to experience. The vibezzzz

Breathtaking performance at an awesome venue!

    by H. Z. on 10/28/21The Underground - Charlotte

This was my first concert and it could not have gone any better! The idea of going to a crowded event by myself really scared me, but since two of my favorite bands were going to perform together at a location I can actually drive to, I knew I had to. I was absolutely blown away by the experience. When I first got there, Hannah Jadagu opened with songs from her new EP. I didn't know who she was but I really enjoyed her performance and will be following her stuff! Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing is probably the best pairing you're ever going to get. Their styles complement each other perfectly, as proven by their performance of Out in the Way together as one of the closing songs. They genuinely enjoy each other's presence and make lighthearted banter throughout, and the vibe in the room was just as chill as it could be. Off the top of my head, Wild Nothing performed various pickings from Gemini, Nocturne, and Indigo. I wish they'd have played more from Life of Pause (of which only Alien was performed), but my understanding is that this is one of their less popular albums. Beach Fossils performed (as of the time this was written) stuff from all of their albums, as well as their EP. I'm not great at describing the intricacies of their sound so I'll save that for someone else, but I can assure you there was not a single song any of them played that made me think "this is okay I guess..." I consider this to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for me, and I'm glad I was able to put aside my fear and attend it.

    Amazing Show by Beach Fossils

by Stefan Karlberg on 1/19/20Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Such a great concert. They played a variety of songs across all of their albums, were very interactive with the fans, and even played us two encore songs at the end. If you have the chance to see Beach Fossils do not miss it; it was the show of a lifetime.

They sounded just like their music. They gave it their all and the concert felt super personal with the stage being so close. They engaged with the audience. What a great show and venue.

by Kay Kay on 5/6/19Poolside at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas - Las Vegas

some guy threw a cup of beer in the air and it landed on my head! still lit tho. the crowd was a little rowdy and reckless, but needless to say, i knew that was the environment i was going to be in. dustin and the band was incredibly interactive and intimate with the audience. i loved it!
