BC Lions History

The BC Lions are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1954, the Lions have made 10 appearances in the Grey Cup championship game and have won the cup six times: in 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The BC Lions have claimed the Grey Cup twice on their home turf, including their notable 1994 victory over the former Baltimore Football Club, which prevented a U.S.-based team from hoisting Canadian football’s top prize. The Lions logged the CFL’s second-longest streak of playoff appearances, running for 20 consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2016. Throughout the BC Lions’ history, roster members have claimed 14 Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, 11 Most Outstanding Canadian Awards and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards apiece, seven Most Outstanding Player Awards, and five Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s Coach of the Year.

BC Lions at BC Place

The BC Lions are the longest-tenured team to continuously compete at BC Place, starting with its opening in 1983. The stadium has grown in stature across the league, hosting nine Grey Cup championship games, including a Lions victory in 2011. During home games, fans can expect to hear the BC Lions fight song “Roar, You Lions, Roar” and get hyped up with team mascot Leo the Lion. The 54,500-seat multipurpose stadium has also hosted Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC as well as games during the 2010 Winter Olympics and the annual Canada Sevens rugby competition. BC Place is located on the north side of False Creek in downtown Vancouver.

    Has big potential

by Ajreet on 6/20/23BC Place - Vancouver

The overall game day experience has a lot of potential to become a really big thing in Vancouver. The lineups were smooth and didn’t waste time when needing to use the facilities or getting food. There’s also a lot of selection of good food and drinks! The team needs to do a better job of showcasing the players. Having the player’s stats shown in game throughout can help fans connect more closely with them and that affinity makes the desire to come support that much greater. Overall a good time

Great team, great game, reasonable tickets, alas poor F&B $

    by K. E. on 6/5/23BC Place - Vancouver

The game between the teams was great. The Tickets for the game at the Venue were reasonably priced. Alas the stands barely occupied... why? Perhaps because the food & beverage pricing was outlandish... making it difficult justify paying for tickets to come again, and/or further pay for the consumption of food & beverage. Extreme salt levels in some food items, so glaringly set & shamefully obvious as to promote drink consumption. Fix this, advertise that you have, and people will come again! Fathom value for a moment...

    Playoff

    by M. C. on 11/10/22BC Place - Vancouver

Great football game! I was disappointed that the DJ to was gone, only one cheerleader dance, no bc lions trivia and singalong. I guess you had to make the game more impartial. It would be fun to have two or three drumming petes to get the crowd louder next year. The football game was great quality well done lions! Steven page and Sarah were great!

CFL and BC Lions fans are the greatest

by Buffalo Bills Fan on 8/29/22BC Place - Vancouver

There is nothing like being at a live CFL game. For my fellow NFL fans who are going through withdraw at the end of the season, I invite you to take a close hard look at the way football is played by our neighbors up north. You will get hooked.
