    Beautiful Performance

by belled27 on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

Wonderful Performance of the BBC Orchestra! It was very well received by the entire audience. I am happy that I was sitting close to the stage, as there seemed to be a problem with the audio projection. Also, the glossy "program" that was given out did not include a printed program of the selections that would be played. Not sure how that was missed.

    BBC rocks the Russians

by TommyRector on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

The BBC Orchestra flawlessly presented an evening of Russian composers: Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Rachmaninoff. Outstanding. The only shortfall was that the Fox Theater program did not outline the program so there was a great deal of confusion about the movements and individual performers. And of course the Fox is the Fox: Only the best venue ever for concerts and stage performance.

    BBC Concert Orchestra

by Randall99 on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

This was a well chosen, well presented program. Since the actual works performed weren't printed in the program, I'm not sure of the names of the entire program, but the Prokofiev symphony, Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto and Firebird were fabulous, as was the finale. I was surprised that the orchestra wasn't amplified, some of the quieter passages must have been hard to hear toward the back and the piano was more often than I liked overwhelmed by the orchestra, but overall the evening's experience was very good.

Music Great... Audience Not So Great

by Anonymous on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

This group is outstanding, especially for an orchestra about 2/3 the size of the typical symphonic orchestra. Unfortunately, the audience was not a typical classical music audience, didn't understand the usual protocol for when to applaud in classical concert settings, and pretty much found it necessary to applaud in between each section of each selection of music. There was no printed program -- something the conductor seemed to imply was an oversight -- so each piece had to be announced from the stage. I wanted to bring in a just-purchased beverage from the lobby into the theater, but was told it wasn't allowed, and ended up dumping it -- only to find everyone else in my row of seats with drinks in their hands.

    BBC Concert Orchestra is amazing.

Of course any experience at the Fabulous Fox is worthwhile, but the orchestra was incredible. My children enjoyed it as well.

A great evening with the BBC Orchestra

by CintiaChelles on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

My husband, our oldest son and his wife, and our youngest son attended Monday night's concert. It was the most enjoyable concert we have ever attended at the Fox. It was a great treat to see Keith Lockhart conduct in person. The second half with Ilya Yukushev was remarkable.

    Bravo!

American conductor British orchestra Russian pianist = fabulous performance. It is sad, however, that so few people attend symphony/orchestra any more.

    Great evening of fantastic music!

by fiddle78 on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

I really enjoyed their performance... the Rachmaninoff was very emotionally-charged and a tight performance by the soloist as well as the orchestra. My only drawback was our seats for the 1st half... we were underneath the balcony overhang in the orchestra section and the sound was muffled; plus, I had a hard time seeing with the general lack of seat graduation. We moved to the balcony for the 2nd half and really enjoyed the orchestra from this perspective!

    Good time with the BBC

by Obsticle on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

I thoroughly enjoyed the concert since I’m a fan of classical music. Some of the people in my party were hoping for a concert that played a few well known pieces but everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable time.

An indescribable experience. Just three days removed from the event, I can still imagine the beautiful music.

My wife and I enjoyed the BBC Orchestra very much. Unfortunately, we have to leave at the intermission to get the kids to bed as it was a school night and missed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2, which was probably the best part of the show.

Have not attended many Orchestra performances and did not understand the "etiquette". The performance was sharpe and professional and sounded great. Would love to attend future performances.

    Amazing Dynamic Range

by Ullrich on 11/17/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

The wonderful accoustics of the Fox Theatre brought out the best of the orchestra - almost, but only almost, inaudible pianissimos and the ability to hear every instrument individually. We liked the program very much, too.

Having no spotlight on the conductor or the featured pianist was totally unacceptable. I asked several ushers, but no one could explain. Was that really Keith Lockhart conducting??? Who knows---you could not see him!!!! The music, however, was wonderful, but withoiut being able to see the conductor or the guest pianist, I might as well have listened the the music at home and saved over a $100!

    Outstanding Performance

by SergeyFan on 11/15/10McAlister Auditorium - Greenville

Outstanding performance; this concert exceeded our group's expectations. McAlister Auditorium offers top notch sound quality and seating comfort. The pieces by Balakirev, Prokofiev, Stravinsky & Rachmaninov (my personal favorite;-) were flawless to my ear; and the performance by Ilya Yakushev, piano soloist, drew a standing ovation.
