About the Bayou Classic
In 2025, Celebrating its 52nd year, the Bayou Classic continues to uphold its legacy as a symbol of excellence and camaraderie within the HBCU community. Year after year, fans gather in New Orleans over Thanksgiving weekend to witness the thrilling football matchup between Southern University and Grambling State University, accompanied by the electrifying Battle of the Bands & Greek Show and the highly anticipated halftime show featuring two of the greatest marching bands in the nation. History of the Bayou Classic
Southern University first played Grambling State in football in 1930, when the latter was known as the Louisiana Negro Normal and Industrial Institute. It was not until 1958 that Grambling joined the Jaguars in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and the two teams started to play on a yearly basis. The prominence of both teams greatly increased in the 1960s and early '70s, with the rise of coach Eddie Robinson's Tiger teams, featuring such Grambling legends as Charlie Joiner, Doug Williams and Buck Buchanan, and Southern's success featuring such stars as Harold Carmichael and Mel Blount. The Bayou Classic was first held at Tulane Stadium in 1974, before moving to the brand-new Louisiana Superdome the following year. The dome has held the Bayou Classic every year since, except for 2005 when it was moved to Houston after Hurricane Katrina, and 2021, when a rescheduled Bayou Classic conflicted with renovations to the stadium.
No Bayou Classic weekend is complete without the legendary Battle of the Bands, between Grambling's World Famed Tiger Marching Band, and Southern's Human Jukebox. The Friday night spectacular features hundreds of marchers on each side performing alongside Grambling's Orchesis dance line and the Fabulous Dancing Dolls of Southern. In 2015, the Waterford crystal trophy which had been awarded to the Bayou Classic winner since the late '80s was retired and donated to the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture by both universities. Due to the postponement of the 2020 NCAA Division I FCS season, the first-ever springtime Bayou Classic game was scheduled for April 17, 2021, in Shreveport.
Well we had a great time as usual, although I was surrounded by Tiger fans lol. In all to say we had us a good time, from talking trash to cheering on our guys. Our seats was amazing! Until then see y'all next year, can't wait! ๐๐/โค๏ธ๐ค
The game as well as atmosphere was very enjoyable and would recommend for everyone that can to experience 2 Great HBCU's!
I enjoyed everything, but I am noticing that the price of everything was way more than the last time I attended. I have a child in the SU band and we were not given any tickets to participate. Grambling gave their family members at least 2 tickets per house hold to attend. I'd like to see this happen next year for SU.
I can't express how beautiful everything was to experience!!!!! My daughter is at the tender age of 10 and she had a blast. From the parade, to the dinner, to the other daytime events, the battle of the bands for the high schoolers, to the greek show, to the southern and grambling band battle, to the seats, to the game, and of course, the amazing halftime show. She told me that ahe wish that she can experience this type of event everyday.
Great Experience and Memories with the kids. Will be going next to.
I thoroughly enjoyed the events at the Bayou Classic weekend! It was my first time and I had a ball. All events were well organized and exciting.
This 2024 Bayou Classic was the best ever! Kicked it off with the step show and Bob. The game was a nail biter.
All of the events were great , however half time needed work. Southern should not have had Lil. Boosie for their entertainer. The game was nationally televised and heโs using derogatory language. We can and must do better

i'm grateful/thankful for my friend Jeff Naquin who gifted me and my sister the tickets for his friend's suite,the gentleman Mr.Leroy and his wife Dory were fantastic hosts and absolutely amazing,the food and drinks were awesome ๐๐พ thank you to Waste Pro for a Fabulous experience โค๏ธ๐ฏ

It was so awesome to be in the building . Definitely will be back . Got to see. Some of my favorite artist. So ready for next year. Start of a new tradition for us .
Experience checking in was seamless and the facility was accommodating, clean and the staff was very welcoming. The event itself was awesome!
The updates to the Super Dome are amazing! The food, service and staff were great! I had the opportunity to work with Bryan and Mell in the suites and they were both GREAT!
Loved everything!! Love our seats and the complementary popcorn and soda. My family said they want to sit in the same seats every year.
This year's ticket prices were higher than usual. Showcase more about Southern University and Grambling on the video and television screen, not Howard and Hampton. Those schools were not playing in the Bayou classic. Although it was great to highlight the HBCU, the focus should have been more on Southern and Grambling. Fanfest was great as well. This year was better than the previous. Overall, good experience.
I enjoyed the game and halftime performances. I also enjoyed the positive energy of watching the game and seeing how much of a difference it was.
2024 Bayou Classic was an AWESOME event. Always family friendly and great clean rivalry fun. It was a great day to be a Jaguar !
