Barry Gibb - Solo concert - AMAZING!
by ILYSSAB on 2/23/12Hard Rock Live - Hollywood / Fort LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5Let me start by saying, I have never written a review, but after seeing this show, thought I'd give it a try, so please be patient with me.
This was billed as Barry Gibb's First Solo US Concert - I had seen the Bee Gees perform several times throughout the years as a group and wondered how it would be with Barry solo.
It was evident that Barry is in his element when on stage - the show was absolutely awesome. The song selection was spot-on, the hits were there, but so were a few deep album cuts, as well as songs that were written and produced for other artists. Barry brought back-up singer Beth Cohen to the front for Islands in the Stream and Guilty, wonderful renditions of both songs.
Barry's voice is still strong, so good to hear ~~ most of the hits were there -- Words, one of my favorites was so great, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, More Than A Woman -- so many I can't list them all.
A FEW of the MANY highlights:
Fever - an older song by another artist, I know I've heard it before, but not sure who sang it - but that song was intertwined with Stayin' Alive - it was really cool how he did that, the style was kind of like a blues song - really enjoyed it.
Immortality - a song dedicated to his brothers - the closing line says it all "we don't say goodbye...." I don't think there was a dry eye in the house - mine certainly weren't.
Samantha Gibb (daughter of Maurice Gibb), came to the stage for an excerpt of "End Of The World" which was wonderful, really want to hear a full version of this song from -- her voice was so clear and beautiful, such incredible tone to it -- this is someone that we should be hearing quite a bit from in the future - someone please sign this girl, she was great! She then joined Barry for a flawless duet of "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart".
To continue with the family affair, Barry's son Stephen (guitar player in Barry's Band) - took the mic for an older Bee Gees song - "On Time" - excellent rockin' version of the song - both vocally and on guitar.
Overall this concert was FANTASTIC, the crowd certainly agreed as there were several standing ovations - people were dancing in the aisles, as well as their seats. At one point I saw two girls down front in front of the stage dancing, security tried to remove them, but I think security gave up and let them be. It really was a fun show and I'm so glad that I went, I would definitely go again, if there was ever another show.
