Barenaked Ladies on Tour

The Barenaked Ladies have been honing their musical and comedic chops since playing gigs around Canada with a comedy troupe in the late 1980s. Starting out as an acoustic duo, they quickly expanded into a full-fledged band and became well-known for their fun and dynamic live shows, where they’d throw in some of their improv and rapping skills. Since those early shows, the Ladies have been performing nearly continuously on tours that have crisscrossed the globe. Since 2004, they’ve been especially focused on the environment, offering eco-friendly options at their shows and using biodiesel to get around on the road.

Barenaked Ladies in Concert

With an amusing mix of pop, rock, sincerity and humor, the Barenaked Ladies are one of Canada’s most endearing exports. Over the years, they’ve been in a constant state of evolution, scoring hit singles in the ‘90s, contributing theme songs for TV shows like The Big Bang Theory and Odd Job Jack, releasing a holiday album, dropping an award-winning children’s album and even creating a popular fan cruise (called “Ships and Dip”). The band started humbly enough in the late ‘80s, as just an acoustic duo, featuring vocalists and schoolmates Ed Robertson and Steven Page. The name Barenaked Ladies started out as a joke, but ended up sticking — and the fact that it came off slightly scandalous ended up being to their advantage. After adding brothers Jim and Andy Creeggan and drummer Tyler Stewart to the mix, the band self-released The Yellow Tape EP in 1991. It proved to be a big success, mostly via word of mouth and their live shows. That same year, they were invited to perform at the New Year’s Eve concert outside Toronto’s City Hall, but were denied by then-mayor June Rowlands who denounced the band’s name as sexist. This minor controversy only raised the Ladies’ profile, and The Yellow Tape became the first independently released album to go platinum in Canada. They subsequently signed with a major label, Sire Records, and released their debut album, Gordon, in 1992. Folky singles like “If I Had $1,000,000” and “Brian Wilson” would become some of their most popular songs, but it’d take a few more albums before the Ladies finally topped the charts with 1998’s rapping sensation “One Week.” Going into the 21st century, the band would continue on an impressive recording spree, especially once they went back to being independent and created their own record label, Desperation Records. They released a few popular themed albums, including 2004’s Barenaked for the Holidays and 2008’s Snacktime! for kids. Even after original member Page left the band in 2009, the Barenaked Ladies have continued on, with albums like 2017’s Fake Nudes, and a number of tours around North America and beyond. In 2018, they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame after 30 years as a band.

    What a great show

    by Sue on 7/25/23

Even though there was a hiccup with the weather… The concert was great. You can tell the Barenaked ladies really enjoy what they do for a living as well as working with each other. We danced the entire time.

    BNL Live is always amazing

    by RomWar2 on 7/25/23

Pine Knob Barenaked Ladies has become a tradition for me since seeing them in High School 30 years ago. They and the venue never fail to disappoint. I have seen them in the pavilion at center stage and on lawn, and the performance is awesome. Fun, engaging, clear and well sound engineered. They band also includes a nice variety in their set list to keep three generations of fans singing along.

    Another Great BNL Show!

    by Tree3003 on 7/25/23

Always love BNL, and have recently discovered what a great venue Blossom is. This was our first time at a "pavillion seating"only show, and that was amazing, made for a great vibe overall!

    BareNaked Ladies Didn't Disappoint

    by Lou W on 7/25/23

Would never say I was a big BNL's fan but the show was extraordinary from del Amitri, Five for Fighting to the BareNaked Ladies. All bands played up to & for the Philly audience! Definitely an entertaining show, a crowd pleaser, especially after experiencing a somewhat disappointing performance by another artist & a personal favorite who played at The Met Philadelphia just five days prior. Sorry Elvis. Nick Lowe & Los Straightjackets' performances were the highlight.

    Nice show

    by K T on 7/24/23

The show was great. I’m used to that venue having lawn seats and since they didn’t have any, it made lines for food/drinks super fast. All of the workers were great. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is while there’s a designated drop off for people using ride systems, there is no pick up and it’s about a 1.5 mile walk on very dark paths that aren’t marked to get to the two roads that intersection where you’re allowed to have rides pick up. It’s too far of a walk to call before you get to that area or you may lose your ride or get charged extra for them waiting. But the show itself was fantastic!

    BNL Never Disappoints!

    by Stacieleg on 7/24/23

BNL always puts on a great show with such amazing energy! They play a mix of new songs and old favorites. The raps and covers they play at each show makes them unique! I have been following them for over 25 years and try to go to as many shows as I can each year and am never disappointed! A really great bunch of guys that are happy to be performing and it shows!

    So enjoyable!

    by Kai on 7/24/23

Not only was it entertaining, but it was also fun in the respect that the band themselves seem to be having a wonderful time. It involved a lot of the singing along with the audience and there was many laughs during the whole show. I am so lucky and glad I was able to attend.
