excellent show. it is one of the better operas for this day and age, beautifully tailored to a more modern audience. the cast was great and i would recommend this show to anyone, even the folks that don't frequent the opera scene.
I learned about Rossini's Barber of Seville when I was in eighth grade (I'm currently a senior in high school), and it has been one of my goals to see his opera. I'm happy that this was my first opera experience, and it's one that I will never forget. The music was amazing and the singing (along with the storyline) was wonderful.
We were entranced by the wonderful musical performances by the cast and orchestra in Portalnd Opera's "Barber of Seville", and the comic antics made us laugh til our sides ached. I would highly recommend seeing this Opera!!
We thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The music was light and recognizable. The performers had incredible voices and were quite demonstrative in their actions --- great 'actors' as well as singers. Since the performances were phyiscal -- in facial and body movements -- the message of the scene was more effectively communicated. I would highly recommend this opera, especially this production team, to anyone.
The Opera was great. Classic storyline, great humor, boy gets girl... The end. The soprano was excellent. But wasn't impressed with Figaro. His voice wasn't as loud as it should've been for a role such as his. But all in all, it was a great performance. Well done!
The Barber of Seville was awesome. This was the first time I'd ever been to the opera and my sister and I took my mom for mother's day. My mom is convinced this was the best mother's day ever. All of us had a wonderful time. The story is hilarious and the musicians and singers/actors were amazing. This was great too because the auditorium displays the translation above the stage so you always know what is going on. Wonderful event, we will definately be going again in the future.
From the opening by the orchestra to the last bow of the cast, it was fun and entertaining. Everyone's character's were well performed and all of the voices seemed to warm and grow in the second act. If you have never been to an Opera, this would be the one to initiate your self. Rarely a dull moment.
Really enjoyed - orchestra was fantastic, as were all the main players
