About

English rock band Band of Skulls, formed in Southampton in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums). Initially performing under the name Fleeing New York, the trio eventually rebranded as Band of Skulls in 2008, marking the beginning of their rise on the indie rock scene. Band of Skulls released their debut album, "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey," an incredible fifteen years ago in 2009. The album was a blend of blues rock, garage rock, and indie influences, featuring standout tracks like "I Know What I Am" and "Death by Diamonds and Pearls." The gritty guitar riffs, dual vocal harmonies, and raw energy of the album earned the band critical acclaim and a growing fanbase. Their music was featured in TV shows, movies, and video games, further amplifying their presence and significantly broadening their fan base.

  • Best show of the year

by Wing Man on 10/10/19Mayan Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show by one of the best bands in the world. Musicianship is off the charts and it's an honor to see them perform live. One of my favorite venues too!!!

  • They killed it again

    by B. R. on 10/9/19Mayan Theater - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time I've seen Band of Skulls live and they once again delivered an amazing live performance. They played nearly the entire Baby Darling Doll Face Honey album as well as the hits from Himalayan and Sweet Sour. This was also my first event at The Mayan, which is a beautiful, intimate venue for a rock concert. Highly recommended.

Band of Skulls CRUSHED IT at Webster Hall Monday night! Their energy and chemistry was mind blowing from start to finish. How these folks aren't HUGE worldwide is astounding. They ROCK!

Still singing along with Band of Skulls in my head! They play with such joy and love!!! This band should be HUGE ! Doesn't get much better. I guess they had to get off stage at 11 though due to bs curfew... Come back soon-please

Very good show. I havent heard of Band of Skulls before researching them on youtube when I found out they are headlining after Deap Valy. They are a tight British band that plays American guitar rock.

  • The Best Damned (Rock) Band in the Land

by BoSbob on 6/11/14Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I missed seeing BoS at the Newport Music Hall near the OSU campus last year. I wasn't going to make that mistake twice. My wife planned to accompany me but was ill... my buddy down the street was the benefactor. He isn't familiar with the BoS and lamented that the vocals weren't real clear. They could have been lifted a little in the mix... or he could have listened to me and 300 friends doing the sing-a-long. The volume was loud but not overpowering. I can't understand why so few people have heard of BoS... their solid rock rifts, tempo changes, catchy rifts, interesting lyrics and vocals are the best in rock. There was good use of not-too-much in the special affects department... three large lights spaced evenly behind the bands, some strobes and the regular stage lighting... but is was well synchronized with the music and very satisfying. I was wondering how well the live show would compare with the sound produced in the studio. It was obviously a little less layered but more edgy and with a fair amount of free-styling. They tended to introduce songs with an 'essence" of the rifts in the music... which resulted in a sense of something familiar but not immediate recognition of each song. The set was awesome... there was nothing there that I thought should have been left off, though I really would have liked them to do Honest (for a true ballad), Nightmares and Cold Sweat. Would have made a nice first encore. As I said, I don't understand why BoS isn't much more popular. They are playing some of the freshest, most original rock out there. My guess is they will get there. But I am hoping they will play the Newport again next year. If you get the chance, don't miss them.

  • Band of Skulls Rock!

by VegasGaston on 6/11/14Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The Band of Skulls were awesome live. They are my favorite band and are better live than I would have guessed. They made a few songs rock a little more live than on the studio albums. Will definitely see them again. Crowd could have been a little rowdier though.
