Stunning and quiet footwork! The storyline to Bowie's music was crazy good! My first ballet show ever & thanks to Complexions i will be checking out more !
Strong, flexible, graceful, athletic, and skilled in their craft -- these and other compliments apply to the male (and female) dancers of this company. Combining ballet technique and modern dance flexibility and extension, they flowed in and out of the wings and backdrop in waves of emotion, excitement, and energy. The audience reacted enthusiastically to their performances to selections of David Bowie's music and gave them a standing ovation at the end of it all. We need more dance like this in Honolulu.
The Bach part of the show was for the contemporary ballet fan.. where as the Bowie part could have been for everyone. A very nice evening.
Complex, artistic, awe-inspiring choreography; beautiful, talented, breath-takingly skilled dancers - look forward to seeing Complexions back in Hawaii!
I loved how they performed to Bach music in the beginning and then to Bowie for the 2nd half. It was a great show. The whole stage was used.
It was not made clear by the pictures and the price (about $30 after fees) that this would be a childrens recital. I thought this would be a more advanced company type ensemble. There were a few nice and more advanced pieces, but the majority of the numbers was tiny children tapping their toes. Disappointing.
We had a wonderful time. Costumes were beautiful. Dancers were amazing. Both my 10 year old daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed.
Show was awesome and very entertaining! Choreography and dancers was amazing!!
Outstanding cast and the choreography was amazing.
The whole production was amazing. Alice in Wonderland is about "craziness" in a fantasy setting. The elements surrounding the skilled ballet dancers, as the costumes, scenery sets, and the colors successfully conveyed the story in a contemporary fashion. However, it did help for the audience members to be familiar with the original story. Then one could appreciate the contemporary treartment of this old classic tale. The only criticism I have regarding character portrayal ...is the Cheshire Cat. I had to figure him out by recognizing the feline ears. The Cat's iconic characteristic is its exaggerated smile. The Queen was superb - make-up and facial expressions.
Simply Amazing... The play was good start to finish
This ballet was a bit too abstract, and lacked a wow factor.
At first, someone told me this program was geared towards children audiences. Luckily, I paid no attention to them. This was a fabulous piece. The dancers were extremely graceful and the acrobatics were the perfect touch. The story line was amazing and it truly felt like I was in the story. I hope The Hawaii Ballet continues to partner with many other ballet groups so Hawaii can experience other performances. Also, I recommend that people disregard what others say, and experience the unknown for themselves.
OMG! I really enjoyed this ballet performance. There was humor, animation and great dancers.
The ballet itself was surprisingly good, and my 7-year-old daughter loved it. She wanted to see it again, right away.
The characters were animated and full of personality....especially the crocodile (with hints of Hawaii in his act!) The ballet and dancing were lovely, especially Kharatian (Mrs. Darling/ Indian princess) - she was exquisite. Peter Pan was great, but tights and a cap/hat would have completed his outfit. (My daughter kept asking "where are his green tights? where is his hat?" Nothing gets by kids! Captain Hook was very funny - loved the tango! The pirates were excited and full of comic relief, but also great dancers! Peter Pan's friends also had fun routines. The Darling children (and family dog) were....darling! Over all, wonderful, fantastic performance and production!
The show was really good, unfortunately the seats were too far back to truly enjoy it. . Too bad there aren't more affordable tickets for families (how about a discount for tickets bought in groups??) so they can actually see what is going on.
Choreography,, Acting, Costune, Sets were AWESOME, never a dull moment and the ending twist with Captain Hook was fun rather than scary for the little ones:) BRAVO!!
Great dancing and costumes. Music good. I love Ballet Hawaii and the guest company from Washington.
