About

B.B. King is in his late 80s, but the King of Blues is still on stage with his band and his famous guitar Lucille more than 100 nights a year -- a tour schedule that would tax many artists a quarter of his age. He's without a doubt the most well-known and successful living blues artist in the world. A Mississippi native, Riley B. King first built his reputation while working as a DJ, guitarist and jingle writer at the legendary radio station WDIA in Memphis, where he was known as "Blues Boy King" -- a nickname that was later shortened to B.B. He recorded his first album in 1949, and has released more than 50 albums since that have yielded popular songs like "The Thrill is Gone," "Three O'Clock Blues," and "You Upset Me Baby." King, a 1987 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for his precise and sparse guitar style in which he plays individual strings instead of chords, coaxing his unmistakable sound by bending and holding notes. Today he plays concerts sitting down because of his diabetic condition, but that doesn't stop fans from scooping up tickets to see this still-vital living legend who influenced guitarists ranging from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to John Mayer and Derek Trucks.

    Thank you BB King!

    by BBKingNumber1Fan on 7/20/14Warner Theatre - Washington

It's always a joy to be in the presence of a legend like BB King but his ability to perform his great music has really gone down hill. The show is carried by the band while BB tells stories and joins in once in a while. It reminded me of the later performances of the great John Lee Hooker. I can't help to think that our great legends get exploited at this stage of their lives by the record and concert promoters instead of being able to sit back and reflect on their contributions to music during their later years. Thank you Mr. King!

    King of Blues respectfully done

by DaJont on 7/20/14Warner Theatre - Washington

I was extremely excited to see a legend who plays one of my favorite types of music (the blues). The warm up band was very good. It was time for the main act. His band first came out and were exceptional musicians. Then, BB King walked, gingerly, onto the stage. His handlers walked him front and center and sat him down. He then spent the next 20 minutes introducing the band. After that, he attempted to play 3 songs. His guitar skills have significantly diminished and his voice weakened. He concluded by thanking the audience and spent the next 20 minutes poised for pictures from the audience. I felt like I was at a carnival watching a circus attraction. This legend deserved more respect. I was disappointed with the show, angry at the money spent, and embarrassed for him. He should complete his days left on Earth in dignity and respect. Not like this.

BB King a great artist should no longer preform

by Tedper on 7/20/14Warner Theatre - Washington

BB Kings music has had a great influence on me. On of the greatest. But now he's lost the ability to preform. He can no longer play well and singing was a struggle. He talked, more like mumbled most of the concert. I was embarrassed for him. While he was on stage for about 2 hours his band played about 4 songs. The rest was mumbling banter with the audience. At times he was being heckled by the audience. Just wrong. Again, I was embarrassed for him. Not the way to be remembered.

    BB King Awful

by biggerbee on 7/20/14Warner Theatre - Washington

BB King is now well past his prime and can not even attempt to perform. At this point he should not even charge folks to pay to see him sit and ramble. The show was like watching Muhammad Ali trying to box in his current state.

    B.B. King at Penn's peak

by Almev on 7/19/14Penn's Peak - Jim Thorpe,

This was the worst concert I ever attended. Now let me tell you why. When I attend a musical event, with a well know artist performing, there is a reasonable expectation that you will be entertained for the price of the ticket. This was not the case, although B.B King’s band was musically proficient, B.B King’s set list consisted of five songs. The entire show lasted about 1 hour 20 minutes and much of this time was incidental small talk with the first row, center stage audience, which was non-audible for the rest of the house. The choice of songs, which included; “You are my Sunshine” and” When the Saints go marching in” should not have been the highlights of his five song set. Do not waste your money! Shame on the promoters of this tour!

    Made me a little sad

by JimberlyLava on 7/17/14Indian Ranch - Webster

Well, all in all the day was great. The first two acts were great, especially the Robert Randolph Family band, they were phenominal! Everyone was waiting for the King of Blues - we were all in awe when he took the stage. I will always be grateful to have seen such a living legend. His band was fabulous and we were glad that they played prior to BB coming out. However, out of respect for Mr. King, I don't wish to say anything negative. He is a very old man now. In my humble opinion. . . it is time for him to call it a day.

    A True Legend!

by Lilykat on 7/17/14Indian Ranch - Webster

It seems rather silly to be asked to review a man who we all know is a true legend. It's just an honor to be in his company and the company of his band. An extraordinary performance. Thank you BB King for letting us hang out with you!

    BB King should retire

    by Harleylind156 on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

Being a huge fan and seeing him many times I was saddened by the appearance and very litte music he played. I know he is 88 years old but all we got one one verse of the thrill is gone and one verse of Rock me baby and we got to sing You are my sunshine 4 times. My heart broke when I saw people walking out of the stands in droves, when he was supposed to be the main event!! Every other band we saw that day was better especiially Throwdown Band.,He even waved to the people as they walked out. I wanted to go but I am sure when he announced he would do one more song, one of the band members told him get off the stage before you are playing to an empty audience..very, very sad

    Blues on the beach!

by LittleNeck on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

An unforgettable afternoon of the Blues! The venue was spectacular, the weather was great. Shemekia Copeland oozed the Blues. Robert Randolph and the Family Band were one of the tightest bands I've ever heard, and it was a thrill to see B.B, King again. A legend.

    BB King

    by Musiclover1000000000 on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

It as apparent that BB King at his elderly age is mentally impaired. It was almost embarrassing that his handlers, staff etc., allowed him to attempt to perform, most likely for their own financial benefit. I think he should retire while we can all remember him as the greatest blues guitarist around.

Indian Ranch is an excellent venue

by KeriGonzales on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

This is one of the best places I have ever been for a concert. There is not a bad seat in the house. Also you can bring a picnic lunch and swim at their beach. Shameka Copeland and Robert Randolph were outstanding. BB King is a legend and at 88 years old, still put on a good show, although it could have been longer.

BB King should think about retirement

by RayGen on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

At 88, you have to admire BB King just because he's still touring, and I'm glad I can say I saw him, but he barely sings or plays guitar at all. His band carries him the whole show. He should really consider hanging it up. However, Robert Randolph and Shemekia Copeland were outstanding. Both of them were high energy and really displayed their individual talents and really got the crowd excited. They really made the whole day worthwhile. So while I was disappointed with BB King, the other two bands made up for it.

    B.B. King is remarkable!

by Debunk on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

The man still moves a crowd at 88! I am honored to have had this opportunity ~ witnessed history up close and personal! He came. He sang. He played. He loved us like we loved him. And then the show ended. We wanted it to last forever, but the magic lingers still. In my heart forever, B.B.!

    concert at Indian Ranch

    by zuppa6933 on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

Venue absolutely fantastic--friendly people great seats, lovely afternoon. Shemekia was great don't understand why set was so short--even she seemed surprised. The sound check was longer. Robert Randolph was very good but I have heard his band sound ...fuller. Again seemed short. BB--tragic. I knew he would in no way approach the vigor and sound of the many times I have heard him in the past. but this was embarrassing for all except perhaps the money grabbing people who are telling him he can still tour. They should be ashamed. This man is a legend and as I said to other concert goers as we exited early---"please don't think of this as the blues" Blues music has a tough enough time appealing to widespread audiences--this just make it harder for all musicians of this type to buck the stereotype that it is old folks whining. Someone please advise BB to stick with recording or to helping younger artists learn the ropes. No one should be made to look this foolish--especially someone who deserves the respect that we have for this virtuoso of guitar skills.

    Bb king

    by Amv318 on 7/16/14Indian Ranch - Webster

BB took an hour to get on stage and hardly sang or played guitar. It was really difficult to watch such an influential artist so helpless and lost. I am not mad at BB King but it definitely feels like he is being exploited. The opening acts shemeka copeland and robert randolph and the family band were definitely incredible to watch and even bb kings band was great but it was really disappointing to see BB like that he is a shadow of the legend he use to be.
