About

B.B. King is in his late 80s, but the King of Blues is still on stage with his band and his famous guitar Lucille more than 100 nights a year -- a tour schedule that would tax many artists a quarter of his age. He's without a doubt the most well-known and successful living blues artist in the world. A Mississippi native, Riley B. King first built his reputation while working as a DJ, guitarist and jingle writer at the legendary radio station WDIA in Memphis, where he was known as "Blues Boy King" -- a nickname that was later shortened to B.B. He recorded his first album in 1949, and has released more than 50 albums since that have yielded popular songs like "The Thrill is Gone," "Three O'Clock Blues," and "You Upset Me Baby." King, a 1987 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for his precise and sparse guitar style in which he plays individual strings instead of chords, coaxing his unmistakable sound by bending and holding notes. Today he plays concerts sitting down because of his diabetic condition, but that doesn't stop fans from scooping up tickets to see this still-vital living legend who influenced guitarists ranging from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to John Mayer and Derek Trucks.

    B.B. is still great!

by hchic21 on 7/16/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

This was not only a great show for the music or the legend, but it was classically entertaining all the way through. The man may not play as much as he used to but he is still just as entertaining with his stories, anecdotes and jokes. His band is great to listen to, and if you are lucky and sit in the front rows you could probably leave with a special gift in your hands. If you get a chance you need to see this man before you miss the opportunity.

B.B. King is Still the King

by Sportacus on 7/15/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Seeing B.B. King live was amazing and, for me, one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I was honestly surprised that he sounds as good live as he does on older recordings.

B.B. King is a living legend

by Caromill77 on 7/15/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

This is the third time B. B. King has been to this venue in 18 months, and each time has been fabulous. At his age, he's doing a little more talking and a little less playing and signing than when he was younger, but his stories are riveting, and his sense of humor is wonderful. And when he plays "Lucille" and sings those old classics, it's like a little slice of heaven. He's still The Man!

    The REAL King

by kimballterminal on 7/15/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Forget about Pop and what the record Co's want us to buy - this is the REAL King. 2nd time I have seen BB - previous at Bluesfest in Grant Park of my hometown. Although an elder now, he still has his sense of humor - playing tricks on bandmates, flirting with women in the audience. His band alone is worth the tix price. See him while you can. HoB Dallas is a great venue. This is the 4th concert my wife and I have seen there this year.

    Good but not good enough

by Lovintheblues on 7/14/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

BB King is an awesome blues singer but unfortunately he is getting to the age that the shows are not what you would expect. He did more talking than singing, which was a let down for me.

BB still puts on a great show!

by PirateKing on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

It's always great to go to a concert and hear a performer tell a few stories about where this or that song/lyric came from instead of a procession of tunes without any of the artist's personality. Although he can be a little "preachy"(southern roots), BB still has a fondness for connecting with his audience. His guitar licks aren't as long or complicated as they used to be, but still contain the essence and joy of a great blues legend. This was more than compensated for by putting together a band which was sonic and tight demonstrating you never get too old to have fun listening to or playing music.

by Jazzilou on 7/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

What a wonderful evening. His performance was part conversation, part musical and 100% entertaining. I am so glad I attended this memorable evening. I will make every effort to make the next King performance.

This was a fantastic show. BB may not solo as much as he used to but he still plays very well. Definately catch his show if you can.

    B.B. King disappoints !!!

by TPane on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

When I turned "50", two years ago, I promised myself I would see some of the remaining music icons. When my wife and I heard B.B.King, a blues icon & legend was coming to the House of Blues in Dallas, we thought what a perfect combination. We had heard him several years ago at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival in Dallas. We were excited about his concert. A dream come true. What can I say, except, how disappointed we were. Is it too late to get our money back? We paid good money to hear a blues icon & legend, instead we got sermonizing on womanizing & the pros of Viagra, mixed with great music by his band. As with a bad movie, there were many times we wanted to leave, but out of respect for a legend, we did not. Many times we attend such events with friends. I am so glad we did not, as we would have been totally embarrassed. I fear now that when I hear B.B King's music, I will only remember the fateful evening at the House of Blues. This "review" is not directed at the House of Blues. We enjoy the venue there very much. We regret that the musical event that evening did not live up to our iconic or legendary expectations. Thanks for the opportunity to share as we have wanted to but didn't know to whom we should express our thoughts and feelings. Thanks

    B B King

by CMcN on 7/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

Vary good concert. B B King did a great job the only draw back was he did not play enough but talk a great deal. Although wisdom is valuable and with age comes wisdom there should have been more play especially by the King. I would definely attend another of the Kings concerts but play more and let your style and music be heard.

    King of Blues

by Peetey on 7/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

This was an outstanding performance...i have been longing to see one of musics legends perform...i saw James Brown in 1992 and was amazed by his energy. BB had the audience's attention throughout the show. There aren't many of this caliber around.

    King of Blab

by WellDoesIt on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I bought my tickets early because I anticipated a most awesome concert with the King of the Blues. It turned out to be the King of Blab because he talked 90% of the time. The other members of his band were fabulous. BB is surrounded by some awesome tallent. If he has a problem such that he cannot play, he shouldn't be on tour. Bottom line it was a big dissappointment.

I will never forget this experience

by BluesFan710 on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I took my dad to see Mr. B.B. King for an early Father's Day present. I have never seen him so happy or so into the music. This was, quite possibly, the best concert I have ever attended. The show was incredible and so was the music. Not everyone can say that they saw a legendary performer in concert. Now, I can say that. I will never forget it and will hold it as my fondest memory with my dad.

    BB King was forgettable

by bluesmom on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

BB King's show was so bad we left early. Too much talking, which we could not understand, and not enough music. We were prepared to be Wowed and were totally disappointed.

Fun Night Of Old Style Entertainment

by YaoBryanT on 7/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

No politics. No foul language. Just good music, and entertaining banter. BB King was in fine form and his band was nothing less than stellar. The Plaza Theatre was delightful wih the sole exception that the seats are too close together for those like me who have long legs. Thankfully, but unfortunately for BB, the balcony was not full, so I could spread out a bit to relieve what otherwise would have been painful cramping. Truly worth the ticket price and effort to go. Very memorable night.

    BBKing

by JTisgreat on 7/13/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

BB is still great. No doubt he's not as great as he was in his prime or even a few years back, but at 83 I hope I'm still rocking like he is. The band is great and BB makes the whole show very entertaining with jokes and anecdotes.

    B.B.King's Talks too much!

by Dante on 7/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El Paso

I was excited to be in the room with a legend, and a man who my mother and I admire. His music is still outstanding, but he needs to stop talking. I ended up getting a headache and left early. I woudl have liked more music and less talking.
