About

Austin Spurs at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park

The Austin Spurs are one of the most successful and longest-running NBA G League franchises. The Texas-based team has won five division titles and four conference titles, and they took home the G League championship in 2012 and 2018. The Spurs also played in the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where they finished fourth. Since 2017, the Spurs have been coached by Blake Ahearn, a veteran of both the NBA and the G League. The team plays its home games at H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, a venue located north of downtown Austin that has a capacity of 8,000. The arena opened in 2009 and books a wide variety of music, sports, and family-oriented events.

Austin Spurs History

The Austin Spurs franchise dates back to 2001 when the NBA G League was operating as the National Basketball Development League. When the team formed, it was originally based in Columbus, Ohio, and known as the Riverdragons. In 2005, the franchise moved to Austin and became known as the Toros. That name stuck even after the San Antonio Spurs bought the team in 2007, although the Toros changed their name to the Spurs starting in 2014. The team currently plays in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

Prior to playing home games at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, the Spurs called the Austin Convention Center home. Historically, the franchise has been home to dozens of athletes who make a positive impact in the NBA, including current players such as Memphis Grizzlies small forward Kyle Anderson, Washington Wizards center Ian Mahinmi, Los Angeles Clippers power forward JaMychal Green and San Antonio Spurs point guard Dejounte Murray. The franchise has also produced players who've gone on to success in professional leagues all over the world — a testament to the world-class training and skills-building the Spurs have always encouraged.

    Good Time!!

by DocMT on 1/24/16Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

We really enjoyed out first Austin Spurs game! As a veteran SA Spurs-goer, dealing with the drive to San Antonio, traffic and parking hassles, the crowds and the giant arena, this title junket was such a treat! It was like seeing the Spurs in my own back yard! Yes of course we didn't see the veteran stars, but the up-and-coming players are loaded with talent and will surely be seen on Prime Time soon!! We had great seats for very little money, too---a fine experience and a bargain all around! We will be back!!

It was way too loud. Blasting music during game play was really unpleasant. I didn't even realize the game had started because the music was so loud and distracting. I have never been to a sporting event where music kept going during play. This also encouraged all the very loud attendees to ignore the game since they got no cues to shut up. We won't be coming up here again for a game. We also had a lot of people standing/coming and going and could not see most of the first quarter. I recommend sitting on the far side to avoid this. Also seat 5 is only half a seat. Good thing it was for a kid. An adult could not sit there! The game itself when I could see and hear it was quite good and very fun to watch. Maybe we will try next year at an early Sunday game and see if that is better. But they will still play music while the players are playing....

    Lots of excitement

by Mrshaun on 12/8/15Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

Star Wars characters were all over the place. Also the students played a big role in the activities. We caught a shirt and had it autographed by 2 players. My 8 yr old loved talking to the two players. We liked it so much that we bought more tickets for this Friday evening.

    Room for improvement

by Sisu11 on 3/19/14Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

Good basketball for the money you pay. We had seen Texan Legends (Dallas) the night before and that was a better experience. Much more friendly. The food was poor, and the it took forever in the concession stand, so eat before the game. Players took a long time to come out after the game, so we ended up leaving. Make them available to the fans immediately after the game....and the same goes for the coaches.

    Toros vs Delaware

by aaseps on 12/24/13Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

First time to a Toros game. My kids really enjoyed it. A good level of basketball. Fun to watch. Down side is that music is played loud the entire game. It is hard to hear the squeek of the shoes, bounce of the ball, and communication between palyers all of which enhance the basketball exerience. I will more than likely not attend another game as long as music is played during the game. Reserve that for the time outs, half time, etc..

This was not my husband or myself's first time going, but it was a first for my 2 year old and brother in law. We all enjoyed the game as well as all of the surrounding entertainment. We even won free pizza items from Austin Pizza for being in the loadest section! GO TOROS!!
