Good lineup, water hard to find

    by tallinaustin on 10/17/23

While people have criticized the lineup as not being 'bluesy"enough, the bands were announced pretty early on and they fit into the type of bands and music that play at Antones. It was a really good, musically diverse lineup. I hope they keep diversity for this next year. The biggest problem with the event is the sky high prices and limited choices for drinks and food. That's the problem with turning Waterloo Park, a city park, into a commercial venue run by Live Nation or whoever is the commercial partner. It was hot and sunny that day and there were only 2 water fountains that were available in the entire venue and they were hard to find.

    Great Show!

by Rick Rock on 5/4/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

Great line up and event, hope they continue annually. Venue is excellent with great views from all locations. Would recommend that in the future they would allow low back chairs in the front lawn general admission area.

    Moody Amphitheater Blues Festival

    by J. S. on 5/4/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

We love the Moody Amphitheater, but a few things would make it even better: 1. Add small video screens above the bars so you don't miss the show waiting in line. The stage is not visible from the bar areas. 2. Add more food vendor booths to shorten the lines and offer a variety of food options. At the Blues Festival, the only option was Lambert's BBQ (and they ran out of food at 7:30). What about vegetarian diets? Maybe add food trucks in the Red River street? 3. The sidewalk south of 15th street (the venue-prescribed walkway from the parking garages) is narrow, uneven, and dangerously close to speeding vehicles, Please improve the only prescribed walk path from the parking garages before a vehicle/pedestrian incident occurs. Looking forward to attending the next event and, hopefully, the improvements noted above. Thank you, J. S.

Great venue, the line-up I attended played music I enjoyed. My favorite was TJ Booker - fantastic!

    Strange Bill

by Melvin Buster Hyman on 5/2/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

For a "blues" festival there wasn't a lot of blues. However, Booker T's Stax Review had the house rocking. The headliner even stated on stage "Booker T is a tough act to follow". There is absolutely no shade for the daytime acts and beer was $13 each. It's going to take one helluva lineup for me to return.

We left almost immediately. The venue is horrible, oversold

    by T on 5/2/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

We left almost immediately. The venue is horrible, oversold. Seats are personally invasive, so close you have to be touching both neighbors, and I add am small. Lawn seating forget it, trying to sit on a towel for hours. The sound from GA is muffled, people are loud and you can’t enjoy the music. We won’t be back to this venue!

The Blues is Live and Living in Austin, Texas

by Boss Man on 5/2/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

A group of four of us travel up to Austin from Richmond, Texas for the Festival and had a wonderful time. The venue, the people, the sound and the music was great. I thought the Glorifying Vines Sisters were good but they did not fit in with the blues vibe. I was really looking to see and to hear Los Lobos but their selection was not fitting in. The crown starting leaving in the beginning of their performance, I also left during their show. All the other acts were fantastic. There was wasn't enough food selection to choose from, there could had been more selective menu. Overall, we had a great time and looking forward to the next festival.

For a "Blues Festival" it wasn't very "Bluesy".

by PS on 5/2/23Moody Amphitheater - Austin

I caught last 3 acts. Not much "blues" in these sets. Mostly MoTown and rock. Booker T played one or two "blues" songs, but otherwise, not much. I figure if i go to a blues festival (which i have) you would expect a lot more black people there also. I saw maybe 10 which was a sign that it wasn't really a blues festival. As for the venue, i had rooftop access and paid a lot more for that. Roof was not covered, hot, had very little seats/chairs. Only few lucky people to get to stand on the wall overlooking the stage. Otherwise, couldn't see the stage. Drinks were same price as others. Would think for paying an upgrade, there might be a discount on drinks. Very over rated for the price paid to get to the rooftop. Not worth the price of upgrade. Also no signage for the roof so was difficult to find on our first visit to this venue. The grounds were very pretty, but facing west made it hot and looking into the sun.

Just a great Austin experience... fantastic venue, great music (especially Los Lobos and Booker T!), and friendly people.
