About

Thom Yorke, Nigel Godrich, Flea, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco collectively known as Atoms For Peace have announced the first dates of a U.S. tour this fall. The shows follow in the wake of the band’s new album AMOK (XL Recordings) entering the U.S. chart at #2 and are its first since the 2009-2010 debut tour during which it played Yorke’s 2006 solo album The Eraser in its entirety.

The newly announced dates include headlines at New York’s Barclay Center and the Hollywood Bowl as well as stops in Washington DC and Chicago before concluding October 17 at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

    Great show!

by Anaqah on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I didn't know much about Atoms for Peace before going to this concert but I was intrigued with the idea of a collaboration between members from Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers and others. The music was undeniably Thom Yorke - exceedingly interesting and unique. And every musician was outstanding. So it was a night of a great music and entertainment. They are definitely worth seeing !

We had a great time at Hollywood Bowl. The whole energy was fantastic. My favorite moment was the triple encore, where they debuted their video clip and everyone was standing and watching.

Atoms for Peace Blew up the Hollywood Bowl

    by TheDon777 on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Fantastic show, would have paid three times the price for what was offered. Flea, Thom Yorke, and the entire band were on fire, they played with energy and purpose, crowd came alive and the Hollywood Bowl was en fuego. I don't have the set list, but it was mostly new stuff with the Unkle/Thom Yorke song "rabbit in your headlights" also thrown in, one of my favorite songs of all time, but with Flea voicing Danny Aiello's line from Jacob's Ladder. If you have a chance to see these guys, you need to do it, they don't sound like anyone else in the music landscape.

Atoms for Peace @ the Hollywood bowl was epic

by Amunix on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was by far the best show I've EVER seen. The acoustics/sound was perfectly set up. The venue is the best in la. Atoms for Peace put on quite the show - had chills up and down my spine for the entire show. So glad I got the opportunity of a lifetime.

    Bowlful of Atoms (for Peace)

by Bookher on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This writer went into the Hollywood Bowl purposely NOT having had listened to any of the music from "Atoms". I was a little worried about the show being dominated by the EDM sound. I missed the opening act, but heard it was a full-on EDM act, so I was pleased that I had missed it. It was all positive ions of energy when the Atoms took the stage. You can't help but get positive energy from bass player extraordinaire, Flea, as he jumped and hustled around the stage like his namesake. Like Flea, Thom Yorke is spending time away from his main day job and appears to be having fun with Atoms. Thom is a great singer to have for the kind of music that Atoms for Peace present. I would have to call this newer sound mostly IDM, rather than EDM. Intelligent Dance Music, as it dawned on me in the first third of show, is something I don't think I have witnessed, but found it very moving. Using atoms and energy together to explain the sound is moving in itself. I would compare and label this music as a kind of, "King Crimson of IDM", with vocals. Like King Crimson, Atoms has the energy and intensity flowing throughout its movements and also has the jazz influences that most bands of this genre and statue do not have. The set was split up. They did about a forty minute set and took about an eight minute break then came back out and did another thirty minutes. Upon leaving the stage they were about ten minutes from the Hollywood Bowl curfew and as house lights stayed dark and the audience continued clapping, a video came on and teased the crowd for the remaining ten minutes, with no return of the band. When the video was over so was the show, as the house lights came up.

Deep in the groove on Flea And Mauro's birthday

by hhillsbill on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

It was a birthday celebration for bassist Flea and percussionist Mauro as Thom Yorke brought his groove-centric side project to the bowl on a beautiful warm night in Hollywood. They played most of the new record as well as Thom's solo material and even a Radiohead B- side. It was the new stuff, though, that really impressed. Their mix of Afro Beat, tribal, house and trance turned the Bowl into one big rave in Lagos. Since these new songs sound so different than the recorded versions a live album is in order.

Atoms for Peace show was awesome!!!!!

by dyeisag on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was my first concert I ever attended! So it was quite an experience, that and because I went by myself. I was hesitant at first, but as soon as the music started playing, I was so in the moment! I mean, omg I finally got to see Thom Yorke!!! I mean of course it would've been better had I purchased pool circle tickets, but what can I say, I'm content with the seat I got! I've tried purchasing radiohead tickets for their King of limbs tour, but had no luck. So I'm fortunate to have purchased Atoms for peace tickets though a radiohead concert would be 100 times better! Overall a great experience! Good things :)

Most amazing show I've ever seen. All my favorite things in one: Thom Yorke's voice, Flea's bass, and the hottest tightest percussion driven band ever.

A must see atomic implosion for the soul

    by Tyler2552 on 10/19/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Excellent show, watching two giants of popular culture perform on state together was nothing less than heart shaking. The shows funky and ambient feel left me watching with awe and listening while being so drawn time seemed to melt away as the peace of their instruments calmed every part of me. Fun and easy the show was great, not only would I go again but next time I'll bring more people!

    Atoms for Peace Run Amok!

by giganticseacow on 10/8/13UIC Pavilion - Chicago

Atoms for Peace; wow, what a treat to see live! Thom Yorke and Nigel of Radiohead and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Need I say more? Obviously, these two artists come from bands and backgrounds that are huge and great at what they do. But Atoms for Peace manages to create a life of it's own, with intense Afro beat inspired rhythms by the wonderful Joey Waronker and Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco. Although quite a rarity to hear Thom Yorke's solo work (The Eraser) be played live, it was even more interesting to hear Amok, the record these musicians created together. The crowd was full of energy, moving to the music and Thom and Flea acting as conductors and gesturing to the crowd. Bottom line, don't go expecting Radiohead. They are meticulous and methodical, perfect in execution. That being said, Atoms for Peace is spontaneous and rhythmic, almost like a night at the club with great music and dancing. Sometimes meticulousness does not necessarily mean better. The band creates something rare and special, and runs amok... Literally. Opening act was nothing great, typical ambient electronica you can find on YouTube or maybe a club. Boring and unimaginative when compared to Flying Lotus, the brilliant opener and musician that opened during their 2010 tour. But Atoms for Peace was too excellent to give this anything but 5 stars! If you have a chance to see this rarity, do it!!!
