    Atlanta Ballet: Dracula

Sensually spectacular! An absolute MUST SEE! A little too suggestive for the younger ones, though.

    Dracula TO DIE FOR!

by EFuqua on 2/11/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I have never seen anything like this amazing ballet! I was a little worried that it would be too dark, too weird...and it was strange, for sure! But SO beautiful and well done. The dancers were outstanding and the costumes, sets, music, etc. were all fantastic. I can't wait to see it again next time they perform it. :)

    Dracula, pros and cons

by ScubaPhyll on 2/11/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

we went Saturday at 2:00 performance. My husband and both agreed not enough Dracula. He should have been in all scenes he was excellent. Really enjoyed him entering and exiting via smoke and down stairs like he was floating. The red cape was very dramatic and added to his mystery. Enjoyed the "dead" dancing we both were thinking Thriller look a like and really enjoyed Renfoe in top of scene. Tickets very pricy would have loved to take our two granddaugthers but impossible with high ticket prices.

    Amazing

by popcorn1012 on 2/11/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I was a little sceptical about seeing this as the drama this piece would require was no easy task to take on. I enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to seeing the AB perform again.

    Ballet Dracula was EPIC!!!

by GirlfromBrave on 2/11/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

All of the dancers played their characters very well. The lifts were beautiful, the scenery was stellar, and all of the moves fit so well with the story.

    A bit to be desired...

by CokiV on 2/10/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

For an early Valentine's day surprise I acquired these opening night tickets for my beau and I (his first ballet). After Act 1, we see Dracula, who lived up to his role as 'leading man'... Act 2 quickly passed and suddenly we found ourselves at the end of the show. To make a long story short, I am so glad my beau enjoyed his first experience, but aside from Dracula's few spurts of dance and a very dark (hard to see) sequence during "The Crypt" I simply left feeling like I need to be more selective about which shows I choose to attend in the future. The play was nice, but the choreography never reached a point for me that embedded a feeling of satisfaction- as a lover of ballet. The costumes were ornate and heavy so again, aside from a few scenes where Dracula dances, there was no elaborate choreography (that could be appreciated due to long skirts and gowns). Nice work, but not enough to quench my ballet thirst.

We especially enjoyed EDEN after the main event!

by CokiV on 2/1/13Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I booked these tickets for my mom, little brother and I (his first ballet) because I enjoy Vivaldi and was intrigued by the theme of transitioning through the seasons of the year, and the show was indeed lovely. To our surprise a bonus piece entitled "EDEN" by Wayne McGrego was performed and it was modern, edgy and thought provoking to say the least. The four seasons was quaint but Eden was amazing! I recommend everyone watch this performance wherever possible.

    Cinderalla was disappointing

by Ezerbet on 1/8/13Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

The dancers were dancing there hearts out however the venue did not support them with props, set design, music, or anything else to enhance the show. I was expecting a great show and did not get it. The stage did not appear to represent anything from Cinderella except for the fireplace.

Ballet is not very child friendly

by JohnsCreekMom on 1/8/13Gwinnett Performing Arts Center - Duluth

The dancing in the ballet performance was absolutely lovely, but this was not what I would call a child friendly ballet. There were elements of the classic Cinderella story that were missing that most children adore. Certain props such as the pumpkin/coach and beloved characters such as the mice, cat and other animals were all missing from the show. There was one interesting prop, a giant clock, that was wonderful and my children loved, but there could have been more that would have held their interest. There were 2 extra fairies in addition to the fairy Godmother, which I would not have minded, except that all 3 kept popping up in every scene from the time they arrived! I don't remember three fairies/Godmother being at the ball and at Cinderella's house at the end of the classic story and it just didn't make sense. The stepsisters were very funny and the dancing was beautiful overall, but I think this is more of a ballet for adults than children.

    Not a Ballet

by 1JohnnyCashFan on 4/9/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I do realize that all of the artists worked hard to perfect their craft. It is the producers who went for this modern form of dancing that I don't care for. It was misleading at best to call this a ballet. This was the 1st time I had attended a ballet and this was not what I had in mind. Johnny Cash was what drew me to the event & the songs chosen were not his best, a few were obscure. Even the brochure cover picture was nothing like the show, it had 2 people with ballet costumes on, that is what I thought it would be like. Also, a lot of man touching...one woman & 3 men? Is this what Johnny was about? It would have been better to let the audience know that this show (the other 1 included) was choreographed dancing, not traditional ballet. I couldn't waste anymore of my life watching the 3rd show, we left. I would have never spend $165 to see it...very disappointed and will probably never attend a ballet again unless I see the nutcracker, which is a ballet.

    just ok not great

by onlythebestwin on 3/27/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The three separate performances were all different in style, music and dance which was nice. The first performance "Dis" was by far the best of the three. This one was worth seeing. I was excited to see the second dance featuring Johnny Cash music but found it to be filled with five melancholy songs, nothing upbeat at all. THe four dancers were just Ok. I guess they were better than that; it was the choreography that lacked luster. Boots on ballet dancers was a nice touch. The third and final dance was too short and not exciting.

Man in Black - Johnny Cash Revisited

by scoreteacher on 3/27/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The title ballet - Man in Black - was excellent and definitely a new interpretation of Johnny Cash's songs from the latter part of his career. I loved the stories told in both song and dance. I also enjoyed 1st Flash - loved the music! For me Dis was complete dissonance! Perhaps more of an explanation in the program would have helped.

    Very Disappointed

by sao909 on 3/26/12Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I was excited about having dance and Johnny Cash music combined. This preformance however left much be desired. First the avertisement showing the Woman in the red dress and the man in Black hat, was misleading. From that advertisement I thought the performance would be professionally orchestrated, and have the woman and man as depicted. From beginning act to end it appeared as if I was watching the dancers during REHEARSAL instead of an actual performance. Althought the last act was the most enjoyable (mostly contemporary) ballet I really had hoped the "Man in Black" act would have been longer, with more Cash songs. That utimately was the reason I purchased the tickets in the first place I will thoroughtly inquire BEFORE I purchase tickets for another dance event.
