Asia awesome and the singer is a great fill in

by RJM17 on 6/20/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Everything about the band was awesome, and the set was great, the only critique I have is the sound needed help. The volume was a little too high! The keyboards and vocals volume should've been slightly lower, they over powered the drums and guitar! Other than that the show was great, the tribute to John Wetton was also very well done. Probably should've shown some clips wile the band was playing. Carl Palmer still has it! They're all fantastic musicians. The Q&A at the end was great too, I enjoyed it!

    A wonderful Tribute!

by Lovejoy007 on 6/20/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

A great concert and wonderful tribute to one of the greatest musicians/voices of the last 40 years. It was great seeing all of the video and written tributes to John Wetton. It is clear his music touched many people. The latest version of Asis performed and Billy Sherwood did a good job of filling the role of bass player and lead singer. The Q & A session with the band and guests was great. Loved seeing Annie Haslam participate!

    Only Time Will Tell...

by Bandit2Actual on 6/20/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

This was a tribute to the life of John Wetton as well as an Asia concert and I personally thought it was a great show. Pros: tributes before the show and Q&A afterwards with the band and others. Lisa Wetton playing drums on HotM. Carl Palmer's drum solo, as usual, was incredible. Sam Coulson's really grown into the role vacated by Steve Howe's departure and there was no loss of quality on some of the more guitar-centric songs. Cons: Noticeably absent from the video tributes was Steve Howe and frankly, anyone really major or famous. Most of the tributes came from folks many of us had never heard of and I'm SURE JW had friends with more name recognition than that. Lisa Wetton played drums for the last song but didn't do the Q&A for some reason. Billy Sherwood's still learning the songs and has a lot of work to do to come close to JW's passion on these Asia songs. He doesn't have John's charisma(yet) with this music catalog and hopefully that will change as he grows into the role. He has to be given lots of credit for taking over for not one but two of his deceased friends(Chris Squire from Yes and John Wetton of Asia). All in all, it was a show well worth the trip. RIP JW.

    Asia - A Wonderful Night

by Striker2nash on 6/20/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Asia paid tribute to founding member John wetton in the most intimate and respectful manner. Carl Palmer is ageless. Geoff Downes was masterful. Such respect for Billy Sherwood filling in for John Wetton. (We saw him earlier this year fill in for Chris Squire in Yes). The video tributes and Q & A made the night one to remember forever.

    ASIA John Wetton tribute unparalleled

by omegadoc on 6/20/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

The tribute to John Wetton was phenomenal and emotional. Carl Palmer without doubt is an insane drummer and a fine leader. Geoff Downes still has it. Sam Coulson has done well in the absence of Steve Howe, and Billy Sherwood has done admirably with bass and vocals. John will be missed!

Bad audio quality, too loud even with earplugs

by mkelsey on 10/30/14Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa - Las Vegas

Wetton and Downes weren't are their peak. Palmer was sensational. Coulson -- well I couldn't hear him play since the bass and the overall volume was way too loud for the Red Rocks (Casino) lounge, even with earplugs crammed in my ears. The poor air quality was as expected - Las Vegas Casino style. Within minutes I had a stuff and runny nose. This was a 900 mile trip to LV on Greyhound since Asia never tours in Seattle, and if I only ever had was the chance to see Carl Palmer go nuts, the trip was worth it. I didn't know there were VIP options and TicketMaster didn't list them, so I'm disappointed I didn't get to meet Asia. Had I known....

    Asia ...............was incredible !

by JoeT71 on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

What a great concert. The drive was easy to Beverly Hills and parking in the underground garage next door was very convenient. It was my first time to the Saban Theatre and I really enjoyed it. It's an old theatre, Art Deco style, from the 1930's and was very classy and had a relaxed feel to it. They had a small bar area and a small concession. It's not the normal sea of people you get at bigger venues. I drove about 5 hours round trip to see Asia without hesitation. Why ? Well, 3 out of 4 of the original band members, thats why ! Plus, I can say that back in 1981, I have fond memories of listening to Asia's first album and have listened to them ever since. They are a band that really didn't seem to get the big acknowledgement that they should have. It's a solid band as far as music writing and performance. As far as the band....just incredible. They played all their hits and some of the their new music too (which was good). The sound system really held up - and it was loud ! The newer guy on guitar did a fantastic job. It was special to watch the 3 older original members get up there and still do it. John Wetton (lead vocal and bass), sounded just like he did back in the 80's. I was so impressed by his vocal endurance. It was like traveling back in time and a proud moment to see these guys together and still rocking. They have a very special catalog of music that probably a lot of people don't listen to on a regular basis. This concert was like visiting with old friends. To Asia : Keep going ! Don't stop.

Asia at the Saban obviously cut their set list way down. They didn't even play Gravitas, which the tour was named after. The concert was good, but we wanted to hear those other songs, at least four, that the group had been playing at all the other shows this tour. Plus, the new guitarist's family was in the audience - Wetton never even introduced him and we did feel slightly cheated by this show.

    Asia has STILL GOT IT!

by BucketListKicker on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

Asia has been on my list of Must See throwback bands, since before they were a throwback. With nearly the entire group of original band members, the music and the voices are right off the old album. Their new material is awesome too! I highly recommend putting Asia on your list!

    Asia is better than ever!

by CKuran on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

The Asia show at the Saban was the second of their 4 shows I attended in So California. The setting and the sound were amazing. The Saban is an old movie theatre that has been wonderfully brought back to glory. Elegant decor and the sound system is one of the best I've heard. Asia played with a lot of fire and passion that night...probably because a lot of fellow musicians were among the audience. I sat just across the aisle from Keith Emerson, himself! I had the VIP package for all four shows and it included attending the soundcheck as well as a meet and great and other perks. I highly recommend the VIP package. Not only do you get to spend time with the band members, but the Asia crew are pretty great as well, making you feel like part of the tour. John Wetton's voice is better than ever, singing with a lot of emotion and feeling with hand gestures that add to his story telling. Carl Palmer's drumming is beyond words. He's the Master of the Drums, a consummate performer, as well as highly personable and entertaining. If you get the Gold VIP Package, you can sit on the stage just off to Carl's drums and see up close and personal his incredible technique. Geoff Downes, although low key behind his stack of keyboards, adds the flavor and foundation to all the songs, as well as the background vocals. And I can't praise high enough the new guitarist who took Steve Howe's place, Sam Coulson. He may be young (27), but he plays with passion and intensity and will only get better with age, especially being around the other 3 Asia veterans. What I've also found is that Asia fans are the best in the world. I've made so many new friends among them on this tour, sharing our passion for the music and finding that we have so many other common loves and interests as well. So in summary, did I enjoy this concert? What do you think? Go see them!!! As an aside, my only criticism on this tour was that it was called the Gravitas Tour; however, they only played, at most, 2 songs from the new album, usually only one, Vakyrie. The whole album is great and I was really hoping to hear more songs from it. Perhaps on the next tour, hopefully next year, after it has been out longer and more people have had an opportunity to listen to it, they will add more songs from that album onto their set list.

    Asia still sounding good

by Hecker on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

The show was very good, but at slightly less than 90 minutes, I felt they could have played longer considering their sizable discography. John Wetton's voice was amazing, always was one of my fav rock singer voices. Carl Palmer still defies age playing with the same precision and energy he did with ELP. Geoff Downes is great on keyboards. The new guitarist Sam Coulson is a talented young shredder but does not have the virtuosic skills of Steve Howe who he is replacing. His guitar parts didn't really reflect the spirit of Howes style so it slightly changed the over all vibe of the bands sound….not a deal breaker because he is very talented but Steve Howe's guitar playing was sorely missed in my opinion. THey did rock though and the energy level and enthusiasm was still top notch even after all these years.

    Asia - crushed it live!

by CornDogGuy on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

The foursome (including the 3 original members: Downes, Palmer & Wetton) just crushed it. Wetton's vocals, in particular, were beyond spectacular. Palmer's drum solo was worth the price of admission alone.

Asia at the Saban 10/19/2014 Wow!!!

by BadSwing on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

Wetton, Palmer and Downes were amazing, sounding better than the record. The new guy, Sam Coulson, fit right in, even though he’s younger than the band. (I'm big fan of Howe, but the kid was super.) I have seen them twice before and they are better than ever. But maybe a bit too loud. My seat was vibrating like I had put a quarter in it. (Asia: the ride.) Note: Keith Emerson was sitting a couple rows behind me with some hot Asian babe. He was sign autographs and posing for pictures until he finally went back stage. Fun distraction.

ASIA in LA at SABAN THEATRE

by Asia2014 on 10/21/14Saban Theatre - Beverly Hills

They sounded great, but I think due to a bad WARMUP band, they cut their set short by 4 songs vs. what they were playing across the US. Very disappointing to hear on 14 songs vs. 18/19 the rest of the US was getting by Asia. They played ONLY 1 song from their new album(tells me something) and NONE from their last two albums XXX and OMEGA. Wetton's voice is as good as 1982 and the highlight as always was CARL PALMERS drum solo. Final point the band did not introduce or give any KUDO's towards their new guitar player SAM COULSON?? Very strange night indeed in LA.
