“Mr Sandoval's Playing is Spectacular”  New York Times

“ He's one of the Best “  Dizzy Gillespie

6 Time Grammy Award winning jazz trumpeter ARTURO SANDOVAL, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, is touring Australia in June 2013. Cuban-born Sandoval has evolved into one of the world’s most acknowledged guardians of jazz trumpet and flugel horn, as well as a renowned classical artist, pianist and composer.

A subject of a movie based on his life, “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia, Sandoval’s virtuoso technical ability or his specialty in high notes gives us the opportunity to enjoy the diversity of his music, through his compositions from the most straight ahead jazz, Latin jazz or classical. He is recognised as one of the most brilliant, multifaceted and renowned musicians of our time.

Arturo Sandoval’s versatility can be heard on recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Bill Conti and Stan Getz to John Williams and the Boston Pops, and in the Super Bowl with Tony Bennet and Patti LaBelle plus Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys amongst many others. Arturo Sandoval is truly a prominent and legendary musician.

  • Buena Vista Social Club was Amazing!

by MsMonreal on 8/26/11Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Our night at the Bowl was extraordinary! From transportation via Lakewood shuttle, to our well priced seats, to of course, the music, the night ranks as one of the best concerts we've ever been to. Loved the big surprises, Natalie Cole, Andy Garcia, the Gypsy Kings, and the scheduled artists Arturo Sandoval, Omara, and the Buena Vista Social Club! The night just kept getting better and better! During intermission we visited a very convenient store where we purchased a bottle of champagne and a mini marraca - made the night even better!

  • Latin Jazz Super Stars Under the Stars!

by RAPerez on 8/26/11Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Great musical performances makes for great memories and this show at the bowl was among this summer's greatest of all. Latin Jazz all star big band led by a legendary virtuoso has never been performed better or in a more exciting way. Major surprise guest artists such as the Natalie Cole, the Gypsy Kings and Andy Garcia all contributed to making this a most special event. Cuban legends Buena Vista Social Club brought us all the way back to a bygone era when old world naturally gifted musicians made real music that resonates at some core primal level that just can't be found anywhere else in the world today.

Great show. Arturo Sandoval killed it and the Omara Portuondo was lovely.

One of the best concerts I've been to. Unbelievably great! Didn't want the night to end.

    by Drg007 on 8/26/11Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

Simple review, it was an awesome show. Can't beat having Natalie Cole, gypsy kings, and Andy Garcia as an extra bonus to buena vista and Arturo Sandoval and omara! Can't even describe with words! Never a dull moment! Awesome! Great! Fantastic!

  • Buena Vista Orchestra was horrid

by pissedoffPR on 8/26/11Hollywood Bowl - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Arturo Sandoval and his orchestra was far superior to the aging and useless Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra. What a disappointment to watch as the orchestra didn't play a single hit the audience wanted to hear. At least the evening was saved by Arturo Sandoval and his amazing orchestra

  • Arturo.....UNBELIEVABLE!!

    by Closer1503 on 3/6/11Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Arturo put on one of the best shows I have ever seen. His quartet is TIGHT but he is a magician with every instrument he touches. His rendition of Nat King Cole's--SMILE brought tears to half the audience. I get goose bumps still thinking about the evening. BRAVO ARTURO!!!

  • Arturo plays for keeps

by fiziksguy on 3/6/11Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 4 out of 5

Arturo and his band put on a great show. I wasn't sure, when he told us he had to take a break after just a half an hour, but when he came back he was ready to go. He was relaxed and looked like he was having fun. A night of great jazz.

  • Must See the Master Impresario of Entertainment!

by MCDuPree on 3/6/11Folly Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to a lot of music concerts throughout my 59 years on the planet and I can't recall any that received more applause, whistles and shoutouts for the many talents and emotionally charged music continually displayed throughout the concert than this concert by the Master Impresario of Entertainment Arturo Sandoval. Sandoval gives more than he receives and keeps on giving. Sandoval played not only his stock-in-trade mesmerizing trumpet but also the piano, moog synthesizer and snare drum/cymbal/cowbell all with equal perfection and sensitivity, backed by some of the finest talent this listener has ever heard, all of whom measured up to their leader's best. Oh, and did I say, Smile, Arturo knows how to sing too. Set list programmed to keep you listening, always wondering what next. The consummate musician and entertainer--Arturo Sandoval. Can't wait for him to return.

The every member of the quartet was an amazing musician in their own right. You could tell that the entire combo was having fun playing, entertaining, and creating music.

  • Arturo and his band were excellent!

by luckypenney on 3/5/11Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The performance was enthralling and the talent displayed was exceptional. He was a fascinating Jazz musician with so much enthusiasm. He and his band were worth every penny. The theater offered a lovely indoor setting with acoustic balance. Eventually, the theater may consider permanent seating. This would probably detour the more rock and roll performances, as the chairs would not be collapsible and the open space for moshing, eliminated. I would love to see similar performers in this lovely venue in the future.

  • Excellent performance

by Fedo on 2/28/11The Ritz Ybor - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

Arturo is a genius mucisian. His versality, ability to play the melody and his harmonizing technique makes him one of the great Jazz mucians of our country. Although he sacrifices accuracy of low/high notes to prove his ability his style and musicality is unique. Bravo a thousand times!

  • Wow. Blown Away

Have listened to him for years. Incredible in concert. Best show ever.

  • A Collection of Uniquely Gifted Artists- - Teamed

by JazzyDude on 2/27/11Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

A collection of uniquely gifted artists- - teamed to amaze and delight. We have previously seen and heard Arturo's special latin trumpet skills (including a wider playing range than anyone sporting an embouchure) but he now demonstrates his considerable keyboard skills and interesting vocals. The woodwind and percussion artists are truly not to be believed and electronic base and keyboard talents are also outstanding. Don't miss this collection while they are still together!

  • A Perfect Evening of Rare Talent

by makeupgirloutonthetown on 2/27/11Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

I cannot believe how wonderful Arturo Sandoval and his band were at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Arturo's musical timing is so rare, and to have had the opportunity to see and enjoy him personally was a gift from above. Thank you Arturo Sandoval for sharing so intimately your precious gift.

  • Arturo Sandoval is terrific!

by pvprincess on 2/27/11Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing performer. We knew he was great, but didn't realize the versatility with all the varied instruments he plays. We were surprised he sang too! And the Cuban rap was cool as well. His group of musicians are equally talented performers and we enjoyed his spotlighting each of them. Adelante Arturo!

  • Great opportunity to see at great jazzman

by JimmieGH on 2/27/11Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 4 out of 5

Arturo Sandoval continues to entertain without any sign of aging. He bonds with his audience, besides giving superb performances with multiple instruments. The Dizzy roots are unmistakable. The only negatives probably relate to the concert hall (a converted church), where the accoustics made the sounds of the keyboard especially difficult to fully enjoy -- I can't term it reverberation, but rather, just intense verberation. And, I would have liked a printed program. The program was nicely varied and covered the range of Mr. Sandoval's discology -- bop, fusion, ballads, afro-cuban -- as well as could be in 90 minutes (plus a 15 minute encore).

  • Terrible Venue
