Steve Morse Band Live in Concert

Renowned guitarist Steve Morse has not only held a long stint as the guitarist for hard rock pioneers Deep Purple for an impressive 28 years as well as a brief tenure with classic rockers Kansas, but he has fronted his own eponymous Steve Morse Band since 1983, when his former band, Dixie Dregs -- an instrumental band known for their innovative mixing of rock, classical, country, and bluegrass music -- parted ways.

Since then, Morse has played in the trio in addition to performing with other legendary rockers. The Steve Morse Band's original lineup featured bassist Jerry Peek and drummer Doug Morgan. Their most recent lineup comprises Morse along with drummer Van Romaine (Blood Sweat & Tears, Kansas, Bernie Worrell) and bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs). After releasing their aptly named debut album, The Introduction, on Elektra Records in 1984, the Steve Morse Band went on to release numerous albums, including Coast to Coast on MCA in 1992 and Angelfire in 2010.

The lineup of Morse, Romaine and LaRue are reuniting in 2023 for the first time onstage together in almost a decade. Don't miss your chance to catch these legendary rockers when they perform live across the northeastern U.S. in 2023.

Steve Morse Band on Tour

Steve Morse was born in Hamilton, Ohio, in the 1950s, where he grew up listening to classical music and was later inspired by rock artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and the Yardbirds. Although the first instruments he played were the clarinet and the piano, he became obsessed with the guitar after he saw a performance by classical guitarist Juan Mercadal, who later became his teacher.

Widely considered a musician's guitarist, Morse honed his craft and formed his first band, the Dixie Dregs, in 1974, which went on to become a pioneer in the instrumental fusion genre. After the demise of the Dregs a decade later, Morse began the Steve Morse Band, to which he devoted his considerable talents when he wasn't busy performing with Deep Purple or doing a brief stint with Kansas.

Morse often tops musician magazines' readers' polls of best guitarists and has been recruited to perform with some of the most renowned rock bands in the business.

This Concert at Mickey's will go down as one of my favorite of all time. The band is unbelievably solid, no nonsense rock and roll! My wife would say it was the BEST show she's ever seen. The venue is awsome and i cant wait to see other acts there! 10/10, BRAVO!

    Steve rocks again!

by Rockdoctor on 6/1/23Mickey's Black Box - Lititz

I'm glad that he didn't retire from the Rock since he retired from Deep Purple. They are tight band, The bassist and the drummer are great also. Steve is down to earth, shared his story, signed on the shirts and CDs I bought. I hope the best for him and his wife.

    Great band and great place

by SWigdor on 5/30/23Mickey's Black Box - Lititz

The Black Box was a great place to watch a show. I wish it were closer to me, but the venue had great views everywhere and had a cool vibe as everyone was pretty chill. The Steve Morse Band was great. Dave LaRue is arguably the best bass player in the world (There is a reason why Morse and Petrucci ask Dave to be part of their greatness). Van is a great drummer and Morse is amazing and such a great writer. 10 out of 10!

    Great show, great venue

by Bill on 5/30/23Mickey's Black Box - Lititz

Steve Morse showed he's still got chops like few others, and longtime bandmate Dave LaRue was an absolute monster on bass. Two sets of fantastic fusion in a great, intimate setting. Mickey's Black box is a gem of a venue. Not a bad seat in the house, and the best sound of any venue where I've seen an artist of that caliber.

Steve Morse Band astounds once again, after 10 year hiatus

by Kevin Sauppe on 3/2/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Once again it was SO enjoyable to witness Steve Morse, along with bandmates David LaRue, and Van Romaine play an assortment of favorites from thier history of SMB, as well as the Dixie Dregs. It was high energy throughout the evening from Cruise Missile to Cruise Control as the encore. Steve's impecable and diverse playing style kept the crowds attention on every note. Bassist LaRue also a master of his craft tore into every song with high impact lead like bass rifts with precision. Romaine on drums maintained the backbone of every piece and delivered the beat with the intensity of each song. All in all Myself, along with all fellow fans, were so elated and satisfied to finally get some SMB back into our lives !! Hopefully more tours to come. Side note: The new venue of "The Vogel", at Count Basie Center for Music was supremely impressive, as it was clean, cozy and intiment, and would be a fine showcase for any band to perform !!!

    Outstanding in Their Field

by S. R. on 3/2/23The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Great venue, was able to see well from the upstairs chair I chose near the rail. Have to give special shout out to the people working at the venue, The Vogel in Red Bank, NJ, for going the extra mile and answering my phone call and email the day of the show to let me know there would be no opening act. So, I planned accordingly and arrived on time for the gig. Sound system at the venue is first rate. Venue was clean and the bartender was friendly. Great show by the Steve Morse Band. Hadn't seen the band in 25 years since Steve had been spending most of his time as the guitar player in Deep Purple since 1994. All three musicians, Morse, Dave LaRue and Van Romaine on drums were in top form.

Steve Morse was Great! - the venue, not so much...

by Turbo2Pete on 2/28/23The Space at Westbury Theater - Westbury

Great show! I have seen Steve Morse in many years so we were really looking forward to this show. the staff was great, smooth entry - BUT We get to our seats in the balcony (note that it's not really a 'balcony' it doesn't overhang the lower level at all - I expected a proper balcony, and to be closer) First, the place is in serious need of renovation.... all the seats looked worn, the wood railing needs to be revarnished, the carpets need at LEAST a good cleaning, really need replacement! FIrst thing when we sat down was the bright white spotlight in our faces - I complained to an usher, she was great and got the lighting crew to turn it down. Then the smell.... as I noted the carpets were disgusting. We got up and moved to some empty seats in the middle where there was no carpet. That was better for a while then it got to us again and we gave up sitting and went to stand by the bar... The venue has potential, but some effort needs to be made! - Management needs to wake up1
